i wouldn't say it's stirring up shit for nothing. It's another confirmation, or assumption, that Dame wouldn't report to camp if he was traded anywhere but Miami.
Why is it another assumption Dame doesn’t report to camp outside of a Miami trade, if Shams literally said “the only two training camps, Portland and Miami”? Like I genuinely don’t get it, I’m not trying to troll lol.

I know Orlandos defense is shabby. But maybe its something you can work on.

Also, I defintely dont rank Jaime over Jovic. Youre falling for the Heat hype machine.
Nope.
It's based on my own scouting/evaluation of the players.

Jovic has some nice skills, but has the toughest time of the three to make a net positive impact.... Sort of like Simons in a way. Can do some thing offensively that you really like, but gives up more than the help when it's all said and done.

Com’on now…at least see the full context. You conveniently left out “[Portland and]” before “Miami”.

Stirring up shit for nothing.

This guy just keeps continuing to sound like an idiot.
Did he just say he would report to Portland, but not somewhere like Toronto?

The tweet said IF HE IS TRADED anywhere other than Miami, he would not report. So it is affirming, basically, that we can't just trade him to Toronto and assume he would report. That we can't assume we just send him to the highest bidder.

I love Dame, love the guy but the league needs to call him up and either get him to publicly refute this report or fine him big. The league can't make the statement they did earlier and then let a report like this go unchecked. I'm also a big player empowerment guy but undercutting all options but one for your team after a trade request when you're under contract for four more seasons has to be dealt with.

What I take from all of that is that Dame wants to play in Portland if he can't get to Miami.

Joe Cronin is more than happy to begin the season with Dame. That was the plan.

Why would Joe send Dame to Toronto if neither he nor Dame want that?

I agree to an extent. But if it isn't his agent coming directly out and saying it, like the idiot did earlier, then there's not a whole ton the league can do. Dame just tells them I didn't say it, don't know where Shams got that from.

If he did he can expect to be $150k lighter in the wallet.

I'm saying if the league is serious they tell Dame that he has to say publicly that he'll play for any team he is traded to. Make Dame blow up this Miami or bust strategy or fine him big time.

But in all seriousness, what difference does a public statement make? When behind the scenes, his agent is saying the opposite. It's good optics and I suppose, but means next to nothing in practicality, IMO.

Yeah, I guess I'd just want an investigation from the league that asks different people in all of the front offices what their understanding is and if any of them say their understanding is that Dame wouldn't report then you inform Dame or Goodwin or both that if that understanding isn't corrected that there will be serious consequences. That's if the league actually cares and they should.

Jovic or Orlando?

IMO, I'd rank the three prospects in this order:
Jaquez, Orlando, then Jovic.
Orlando. The reason he dropped in the draft was that his mobility and lack of athleticism would make him almost unplayable on defense.

how is the NBA going to force Dame to say that? At gunpoint? Players have the option to not fulfill their contract and accordingly, not get paid/accept the fines.

yeah, Miami-or-bust kind of sucks for the Blazers if they truly want to trade him, but it kind of seems they may not. But Shams (who has a history filled with getting things wrong) is essentially saying it isn't just Miami-or-bust, it seems to be Miami-or-Portland-or-bust

Shams says Blazers and Heat will discuss a deal one more time before training camp starts. LoL…

Be rather weird/uncomfortable IMO for Dame if he remains in Portland, be interesting to see the fan reaction to this soap opera if he's here on opening night at home. He's gonna take his share of flak and deservedly so again IMO. The bloom is odd the rose

Shams is full of shit on this one. He doesn't know that Dame wouldn't play anywhere else, he just pulled it out of his ass. He's speculating and that will get him a ton of clicks this close to training camp...I think Shams needs to be held accountable for misleading the jury in this case. Dame said he'd report to any team he was traded too after Silver reprimanded him..I don't think Dame has anything to do with Shams concerning his situation period....it's a media guy scraping the bottom of the barrel for clicks.

Probably a short conversation as Cronin knows what Miami has available and what they can make available if they make the effort. If Riley calls, Cronin asks if Miami has increased their offer. If the answer is no, Cronin just says nice chatting and have a good day and simply hang up. Nothing more to discuss.

Bet there is zero real conversation probably all by e-mail, tell there is reason to talk.

Shams -- who carried water for Golden State with GP2 -- and who made the minimal correction to his reporting with zero mea culpa because he did not give a crap that he repeated outright lies and crapped on others' reputations. So now, he carries Miami and Lillard's water. That's a lot of water carrying coincidentally aimed at the Blazers, again. Shams can kick rocks.

And Lillard would report to whomever he was traded to. He'd be fortunate to play in a ready made situation with extra forwards and no starting PG. I'm hoping he goes to Toronto or Brooklyn. That's it.

Shams has been making stuff up all summer.

This one struck me as a very carefully worded bit of rhetoric from Goodwin because Joe is talking to other GMs now that front offices are clocking in again.

Um, both those places have starting PGs - Toronto's starting PG just won MVP of the World Championship...

I know its not saying much, but he appears more mobile & athletic than Nurk.

He will never be a star, but Robinson at least has the potential to be a solid backup center

Fuck man I just don't care anymore. Go blazers, with or without dame.

I'm sorry. Permit me to rephrase that. Brooklyn and Toronto would have two quality forwards for Lillard to lead. He would like that soon enough.
Toronto has Dennis Schroder, about to turn 30, who is now on his 6th team on a 2-year contract (a sure sign of great confidence in him), and is (IMHO) a lower level starter who plays decent D. Toronto would love to have an excellent PG. Schroder would be a quality backup PG.

Brooklyn has Spencer Dinwiddie. Age 30. Final year of contract. On his 4th team and a 2nd stint with Brooklyn. Traded mid-season two years in a row. Up and down with 3 pointers. Another just okay pro at PG. Not a quality starting PG even when squinting.

Yes, both teams have PGs who have had profitable careers, who start at PG, and who can fill the position until their teams are able to replace them. Is each team's greatest weakness at PG? Yes.

Toronto traded their 2024 1st for Poeltl, but put a top 6 protection on it. Raptors need a MEGA TANK. And they hired a rookie head coach. Lillard winning games in Toronto would mess up their future.

They aren't tanking this season. I don't think you keep Siakam if you're tanking and I definitely don't think you sign Poeltl to a 4 year $80M contract so you can tank. They'll be competitive with the roster they have but I also expect them to be interested in upgrading at PG and possibly at SG as well. I think they'll be interested in Herro, I just don't know how much value they'd put on him and I also think they'd be interested in Ant with the same caveat.

If Raptors trade Siakam & OG at deadline, they can go Joe. The league won't enforce tank penalties if you don't have superstars. Cronin wrote the book on modern tank warfare.
