Dame asks for trade (And there it is)

I'm fine with that actually. Just don't trade him directly to Miami, unless they give the Ultra-Giga-Mega package and then be sure to trumpet that all day every day.

I'm really high on Jovic and Jaquez as prospects so I'd hate to miss out on them personally.

I have unsubscribed to the Athletic but Sam Amick said this:

I don't agree with Sam at all. He thinks it is better to roll the dice (meaning trade good assets) on a player with an ending contract as opposed to one that has 4 years left. Maybe for a market that can attract free agents and cap space will help, but Toronto ain't that place.

"With Dame, I think the Harden-esque escalation wouldn’t happen unless he were dealt to a team like, say, Toronto, where he clearly doesn’t want to be. And for everyone who cites the Raptors’ Kawhi Leonard trade as an example of a team winning the risky bet on a player who wanted to be elsewhere, let’s not forget that Kawhi was only one season away from free agency at the time.

Lillard, by very significant contrast, has four very expensive seasons left on his contract (including a player option worth $63.2 million in 2026-27).
It’s one thing to roll the dice for a season and hope it works out, and quite another to take on a deal worth $216 million and brace for the potentially disastrous fireworks that might unfold from there."

Indicative of how motivated Riley is here.

What does this tell Dame about how much Miami really wants him?

Sounds like Pat felt disrespected and is waited for Joe to crawl back on his hands and knees.....and that never happened.

not sure what it tells Dame...

what it tells me is that Riley made a shitty low-ball offer right from the start and hasn't added anything to it. It also tells me that if another team, besides Miami, doesn't make a substantial offer, Dame will be a Blazer when training camp starts because I think Cronin has essentially told Riley to pound sand

The big hurdle here is Dame coming to the realization that Riley doesn't want him that badly. Once he gets over that, other offers will inevitably start coming in. Not like Miami's offer was a high bar to clear.

pat riley is trying to show that theyre not desperate and they are fairly confident that no-one will give portland better offer than they can, cause dame/his agent have done damage

its risky to trade value for dame (can you image toronto trading scottie for dame only for dame to ask out, sit out and whatnot)

Annnd Windy also chimes in

https://x.com/Digits3Hoops/status/1705318563475505210?s=20

So now we have 3 locked in insiders (Haynes, Woj, Windy) and Marang all echoing the same message the past 24 hrs.

Miami has not seemed very motivated to get this done.

of course, the "we don't want or need him much" is negotiating 101. I'm not sure that posture matches Miami's intentions

I do think the notion that Portland had to consider Miami's offers as being their only option has always been bullshit. If Dame's main motivation is to get out of Portland and go to a contender, he must expand his list of destinations. I actually think that's happened, a little, thru back channels. The 'leaks' about him fully intending to honor his contract were the first step

How? We have four years for Scoot and what three for Sharpe you think we are winning in that time frame? Come on! The clock is ticking if we trade Dame to Miami, this league is done. How can you not see that?
Have more time than that, players always resign for their rookie extension. Team doesn't have to be a legit winner even those first extension years, just have to show there is a good foundation and path to build to that.

I can’t see the link - what did he say?

He literally can't do that.
doesnt matter, there are ways to create toxic environment to force your employer to trade you

sure, you might think he wont do it and he will be professional about it and you may be right or maybe it could be a disaster

You are wrong.....that would be like saying dating ugly chicks over and over would lead to you dating a hot one. Nope!
Actually, when I was in middle school, that's exactly what happened to me. Not girls paid no attention to me until I got a girlfriend, albeit an ugly one. All of a sudden, the hot girls started paying attention to me. It made no sense, but then again, women rarely do.

It actually does matter. He and his agent already had their wrists slapped by Silver about this very thing. And they both are quoted as saying they would comply.

That'd torpedo his entire brand even more than he already has

Dame promised Silver he wouldn’t sit out.

So you're just ignoring the rather obvious implications of a trade to Miami? Do you, think I'm wrong? If so, can you please explain why this won't become standard operating procedure?
Since I posted that it's come out Miami is out of the picture which I'm in favor of....I had read that Miami Suns Blazers were finalizing a 3 team trade and now it seems Miami has been absent from the table since summer league. Giannis and Embiid have maybe changed their attention span.

one time, my wife forgot my birthday

I had to apologize for months for letting her forget my birthday. Logic. I won't make that mistake again

I'll never forget being in a failing marriage, and women were flirting with me right and left. Got a divorce, and I did not get a single flirt for one and a half years.

Plus, there are 9-10 days until training camp. That could motivate both Dame (to add to his list) and other teams to make offers, seeing that no deal has been made with Miami.

That's about how long it takes divorce cooties to wash off! Single folks can smell divorce cooties from miles away..and they usually know she got all your money for the time being and also they don't want to meet your kids.

dame lillard is not as big as lebron james or kevin durant, people wont hold his trade request against him (smaller part of our fan base do, but larger part still supports him), despite saying all that stuff throughout the years and then doing the opposite and i dont think he cares about what anyone thinks of him, he wants to get traded to the miami heat and win the chip there and hes ready to accept everything that comes out of it, good or bad

Also, Ayton coming back probably means OG signs with you in free agency. That team has some playoff upside—if not this year than probably next year and the year after.
I think Ayton is the only almost AS kind of player I want back. There’s a shot Ayton could still come with 3 1sts. No way Ayton AND OG comes with 3 1sts.

I also think Ayton doesn’t make a huge difference for us in winning, and we are essentially taking on a pretty good reclamation project. Even if we are winning, we could capitalize on Ant or Grants value and still get a lottery pick. I would not want to lose out on a lotto talent to overpay OG.

There are several 7’0 guys in this draft. Imagine putting the best one behind Ayton, then being able to capitalize on Ayton’s value when our C is ready to start.
