Dame asks for trade (And there it is)

If Toronto comes out tomorrow and says OK, we'll take Ant and Murray for OG, does Cronin do it? And will Dame rescind his request?

I remember Kobe and Vanessa looking at private schools in Chicago, then completley forgetting that happened as he won titles in LA two yrs later.
I would absolutely do that if I was Cronin. Even without Dame, OG fits well with Scoot and Sharpe.

Dame tanking our leverage to force his way out is really no more laughable than Joe secretly rebuilding while lying to Dame's face about trying to make trades.

We don't know if either one is true, or more likely than the other.

I said this in another post, but Occam's Razor seems like the best way of looking at this. The simplest explanation is preferable to one that is more complex. Dame was already getting frustrated with the team for asking him to tank, he wasn't excited about the idea of mentoring another 19 year old rookie, and he vented to the media. Intentionally or unintentionally, his comments hurt our leverage. Joe genuinely wanted to keep Dame, and was doing his best to go out and get players that he thought would help the team win. But as Joe said "whether even internally if we thought that well, hey we’re going in the right direction here, we can get there pretty quickly… if he didn’t feel that it was still a failure on my end.”
Either conspiracy is stupid.

Of course. Don't blame Dame at all. I think our only avenue to get something done was to overpay for a good but flawed player with #3. It would be easier to trade the #5/#6 pick for Siakam/George, but a lot harder to justify with #3. I've said over and over that they chose Scoot over Dame and it is what it is.

And at this point dame showed his true character so bye Felicia.

I agree he does but there is still the concern that he will be a free agent next summer. I wish we could get Scotty Barnes instead.
Has anyone shared who will have cap space next year? Without huge cap holds of players like Siakam that means they won't really have cap space?

I'd guess Spurs Charlotte Orlando OKC yeah Toronto if guys walk.

Cap space just doesn't matter much now though, player get extensions then demand trades. It's really only uncompetitive rebuilding teams that would have space and they'd ideally use it to take on a bad contract for a pick. As annoying as the Dame 1 team list thing is at least we will get assets back unlike LaMarcus.

cap-space is a lot more tricky under this new CBA. Teams HAVE to be at 90% of the cap by the start of the season, or they get penalized. And the penalty isn't just financial; if they are under that 90% floor at the start of the season they are prohibited from making any trades than bring back less salary than they send out for the rest of that season

my hunch is that we will start seeing some ridiculous 1 year deals for a lot of scrubs

exactly my thoughts. I absolutley think there was a window to sufficiently accomplish this two time line thing (however futile it might be) but I get the feeling that Cronin didn't even try. And that's why I place 70% of the blame on him, and the rest on Ownership/Olshey/Dame.

Wouldn't that be wasted time? What would DDR change? Blazers with Dame has culture of happy shooting and no defense. One time, with CJ and Rodney the shots were falling and it was great to watch. But you can not build contender around leader that don't play defense. There is simple rule: follow the leader.

We'll now see every team get to 90% by the start of the season. Yeah maybe they do some 1 year deals, or take on another teams expiring contract for a pick, etc. I don't think its a notable difference as previously there was only 1, 2 or 0 teams that went into the regular season under 90%. When they did they just took on a contract for a pick at the deadline or something. Now that will be done in October instead of February.

Antother scenario where i wonder if dame would rescind the request.
I just don't see any way Dame rescinds the request. He's the type of guy to go 100% or 0%; he doesn't half do things or flip flop. Yeah if Miami moves on he'd change the teams or the list. Now if we don't have a trade by the regular season I could see him helping out the Blazers or even playing as awkward as that would be. But he'd still be awaiting a trade like Durant on the Nets last year.

Yup. If he feels like the team lied to him, I don't think he'd come back. The fact that Dame has not spoken to Joe since the meeting a couple weeks ago is a sign to me that the relationship is most likely irreparable.

Joe said at end of season he will push all chips in and overpay but when we landed 3rd pick, overpay got a whole new meaning. Joe did the right thing by not trading two or three of Ant/Shae/Scoot for either OG or Mikal. Dame would want that to happen but Joe made the correct choice with Sharpe and Scoot

Lavine isnt a star. Hes awful. (Dont care about stats, he is)

I agree but that wasn’t my point (technically he’s been an all star thus a star ). My point being that if they make a trade that empty’s their cupboard making it impossible to trade for Dame. Then forcing Dames choices to open up

Agreed, but as I also said earlier, you can push all your chips in but if nobody calls.... :dunno:

I don't think Dame plays poker.

All star one time doesn't mean they are star. He's not good enough to be deemed an actual star.

People's expectations got them mad at Joe when they don't know what went down.

It's really fucking dumb.

And who even knows what's true at this point. There's so much bullshit floating around out there.

This is most likely fake but it seems at least plausible that this could be the impasse.

Steph
Iverson
Dirk?

I see what you did here:)

If only Dame had Draymond to manage the team, like Steph have, if only Dame had a pay cut, like Dirk and if Dame was as good as Iverson, Blazers would surely have more success with him.

this is my fear—Joe and team are actually totally fine with the maximum Miami offer (Jovic, Jacquez, 3-4 firsts), and that’s what they’re “holding out for.” I will be very sad if this is all they accept for Dame.

For all the shit we talk about Morey and Masai, they would never accept something like this.

I honestly don't think that's a bad package. As Lowe put it: "it's palatable". If Brooklyn isn't putting Claxton on the table I don't know what else any team would actually offer.

But they should absolutely not settle for anything less than the best package Miami CAN offer.
