Dame going to give Chauncey a shot

Really wish Dame would tell Jody that he's going to demand a trade in exactly one month, so if she wants to get full value for the team, she has to sell it now.

It's not necessarily that we believe Haynes (I dont) it's that Neil and Co. Fucked this all up.

Why would you not believe Haynes? The first report came from Haynes. Dame denied everything that didn't come directly from Haynes.

I think the first "could request trade" report from Haynes was just Dame's way of putting management on notice. The whole situation got blown out of proportion by the rest of the media after that story went down. Now we're here. But clearly Dame is frustrated.

neil olshey has done his job really well, blazers have been relevant team for years and people dont want to hear it, but being a playoff team and having a packed arena is what vast majority of owners want, thats money right there

if youre small market team like portland, its really tough to contend for a championship as you cant attract big free agents, so the only way to contend is to build a contender through draft and trades, which is not easy at all, if anything, its really hard, otherwise every team in the league would contend... unless you hit big in the draft with multiple players like san antonio spurs or golden state warriors, or draft generational talent or youre a big market, desirable city to live in like los angeles or miami or new york, the best you can hope is being a playoff team and like i said, about 85% owners are happy with that... just a little reality check

I just want us to pick a direction. Trade Dame and tank or go all in. I can't stomach another season of treading water.

I've been calling for Olshey to be fired even before 2016. Then, I was the conductor on an empty train. Now the train is full and the passengers are angry...really angry. My opinion on Olshey hasn't changed. The degree of disgust with his tenure has gotten deeper each year. He's a master of mediocrity. And he's destroying the Dame era with his ego-driven arrogance and myopia

I had to laugh when the Olshey apologists here tried to explain when Olshey said the roster "wasn't the problem", he didn't really mean it that way. Yes, he meant it exactly that way and he's out to show everybody he was right

fuck this clown and fuck Seattle for allowing this to happen

Thats right on...Performance evaluation for a small market is different that a larger one with the 3 major sports. Fans dont have to live and breath one team when there is local competition.
Ask the owner of the Phoenix Suns that were out of the offs for ten straight years if he'd be pleased to be in the playoffs every year with sell outs and wild ass fan forums. He got competition with the dbacks and cards.
Financial performance and marketing drives this league.

It only takes me once to stop trusting someone.

And it's obvious Dame is frustrated.

I'm starting to think I might need to take a break from this board for a few months. We have absolutely no idea what the Blazers really are going to look like on opening night yet and we have a new coach with dramatically different ideas than his predecessor and everyone is going on this negative freakout because we haven't made the move they want yet and we're back to panicking about Dame based on speculation.

I like to watch sports to get away from the awful stuff in life, but coming here is like seeing your whole family as part of the horde of zombies after the apocalypse. It's not fun reading the board these days, and I think it's going to keep spiralling every day the Blazers don't trade CJ or fire Olshey. Seriously, ASPCA and UNICEF infomercials are more upbeat than this board right now.

well said...summer vent fest

I saw the quotes but I actually went and listened to the podcast:

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/posted-up-with-chris-haynes/id1446252794?i=1000531022885

Here is a direct quote from Haynes:

"Damian Lillard said, the roster as is, he doesn't see how the roster team that can really contend for a title, and that's what he wants. Management thinks otherwise."

You have got to be fucking kidding me. This is clearly something he's heard from Dame. This is the clearest indication of our management's incompetence and plan to run it back with the same group.

If this is true.....I am so heartsick and enraged I don't know what to say. Olshey must be mentally ill and Jody must be the dumbest owner in the league. The only other explanation is that they are working to force Dame to demand a trade.

Lakers fans are talking about starting Carmelo Anthony and are ecstatic. Blazers fans have a perennial playoff team and a promising new coaching direction and everyone's already throwing away the season. Geez, people, get a grip. Give it at least a couple of weeks into the season to see who we actually put on the floor and how Billups fits it all together.

For one thing I'd say 28 teams are looking at the league and saying their roster is not good enough to beat the super teams...I would'nt read too much into Dame's second hand info through Haynes...that and we're not even through the trade season..also Dame probably said that before Melo and Kanter had signed elsewhere or we'd picked up some bench vets...again..Dame is starting a huge contract for multiple years...makes no sense to rock that boat to be a role player in a big city

Thanks for the reality check, you are right on.
Much can happen before the season start.

LOL...what a comparison.

Blazers won a championship in 1977. Since then Laker fans have witnesses 11 championships

those people are casuals, they have no deep knowledge of bball or carmelo anthony, they think of him as a star he once was

people who follow bball or who follow carmelo, now how the things stand

Has it been mentioned yet that the Sixers just hired Dame’s trainer? No joke.

Apples to oranges comparison. Actually, seems to me by your reasoning that Lakers fans should be more upset because they know what it takes to win and Carmelo Anthony starting isn't likely to help them do it.

We now return you to your regularly-scheduled b****-fest.

Fuck you Neil. Single handedly ruined this organization.
We have an all-time franchise best player, the best clutch player on the planet, so of course we had to have a Neil Olshey running the franchise for his entire career.

FML

I understand this tweet now. Olshey needed Billups as someone with enough respect and cache around the league but also supports his ridiculous notion that our roster is good enough.

End of the day, just a time buying move for Olshey.

Neil-speak: "The roster isn't the problem."

Translation: "I'm not the problem."

Sure you're not.

I think it's years of being condescended to by Neil and having him do very little to try and get this team to a contending level. Now we have (for most of us) our favorite athlete of all time, who has always said he wants to stay here his whole career obviously as sick of Neil's shit as we are and not sure where he wants his future to be.

We also had Neil say that the roster wasn't the problem last year and most of us just couldn't disagree more with that sentiment. Now it appears and this is all media influenced conjecture, that he wants to run it back with a very similar roster... the only big change being a new coach. That roster includes a starting unit of a 6'2" guy and two 6'3" guys... which is a real experiment that we saw go horribly wrong last season.

So the frustration is warranted, the fear that Dame will leave is warranted because he said that was a possibility and the dissatisfied conjecture that we will have a roster unimproved and very similar to last year's roster that lost in the first round to a hobbled Denver squad that got swept out of the second round is understandable. We're probably not giving Chauncey enough credit but he's never coached a game so we don't know how much weight to put on his shoulders.

If you say so.

None of us has a clue how this all fits together yet, but people are calling for firings, saying Dame wants traded, cancelling their season tickets.

It's like watching Lloyd Bridges yell "They're headed right for us" and jumping out of the tower at the end of "Airplane" before the 747 lands safely.

There's frustration ... and then there's what's been going on on this board the last couple of days.

This is some weird stuff you had to say man. Dame wouldn't be a role player on any team in the league. We didn't get bench vets markedly better than Melo and Kanter in my estimation and I guarantee you that's Dame's take because he fucking worships Melo and loves Kanter. The second hand info we just got through Haynes wouldn't trouble anybody if the last time we heard Dame speak on U.S. soil he hadn't said that he didn't know where he sees himself in the future and the team needs to show urgency in trying to win a championship to help him figure that out. But we should all be sunshine and rainbows, I guess.
