I think you need to learn when joking is appropriate, when it's not and when it's proper to just let things go. The matter being discussed is a very sensitive, relevant subject that doesn't have wiggle room to try and make some form of basketball joke of.

Personally, I welcome Dame's conciliatory tweets as a launching point for discussion. He is much more than a professional basketball player. Kudos to him for speaking his opinion about a sensitive subject and to do so with maturity.
 
I think the biggest issue is that the rules seem to only apply to certain people. If you're rich or a cop you can get away with just about everything.

If a black guy shoots another black guy, and he's caught, he's going to jail for the rest of his life.

If a cop shoots an unarmed black guy in cold blood, he's probably just getting fired or put on paid leave.

In fairness, it's "those guys" who used said references, not necessarily the majority of us. And I see it appears that a moderator has removed the references of which you speak, so there may be hope for us neanderthals yet.

and in another slant...having a handgun in your pocket might not protect you from being shot..this is tragic and I hope they fry these cops

Its bs though that nobody sticks up for mentally handicap who cant usually speak up for themselves. My brother was handicap and i grew up with people staring at him and laughing when we were in public.

Why no outrage ever for these people?

It offends me greatly when i see people use that word.

If youre gonna stand up for what is right be consistent at least.

I'm not standing up for what's right for anyone. I personally think letting a word trigger you is giving power to that word. Our society constantly dances around words and I find it pointless and silly. When they blank out the word fuck in a song or on TV, but everyone knows that's what they said...... what was the point? Or if you say frick or gosh or jeeze.... they mean the same damn thing. The meaning is the same. Changing a few letters doesn't change the intent.

It seems like we're headed towards a society where nothing is ever said because we're afraid of hurting someone's feeligns.

I'll try to make this as clear as I can but somehow I really don't think it will help you "get it"...

It's not the word it's how you use it.

Not as a general rule, but it did seem appropriate to do so given the theme of the topic.

More importantly this has be asked multiple times very nicely by members of our this community not to use such terms. Does this have to become a "mods are ruining all my fun" situation? Fortunately, unfortunately, we do have female members of this community, they've asked that references to their sex not be used as insults. That seems reasonable to me. It's not something that I'm always going to be looking for but if someone asks I don't see the problem.

Also, two members of the forum have "r word" family members, they absolutely hate that term. In the past they have asked me privately to remove that from posts and I will when asked. This has happened for years. No one has been disciplined, reprimanded or banned over this. It's something that has just quietly happened in the background.

Maybe to you. Maybe to you buddy. But I don't get offended by people using words like that. I also do not approve of censorship because a few people are a little to soft to move on, or ignore what they don't like and must feel the need to make everyone believe in their same views.

Thats my point. I was offended. I moved on and just thought said poster was ignorant that the word was offensive.

When i said people were vaginas, i had no ill intent. After being pointed out i realized i might have offended someone.

Its just hypocritical of people to be social justice warriors and not stick up for people that have no or minimal voice to stick up for themselves like the mentally handicap. Be consistent.

You may want to update the forums rules section then if you haven't already. As this list of "offensive words" may need an ever expansive section.

I find it ridiculous that they can't just move on, but that is the world we live in now. People offended at every single thing they disagree with.

Thanks for the explanation Sly. While I find the censorship truly fucked. I understand you must cater to the few.
