Maybe Olshey found a hidden gem. Let's hope. I like him but not at this money. Hoping to be proven wrong.

I'm wondering what's the deal with Nassir's PT and Wenyen Gabriel/Carmelo/Hassan.
Hassan is history, guaranteed the moment we signed Kanter

Kind of crazy Miami chose to pay 9 million to Meyers instead of this guy.
They are lousy with wings and don't have another 7 footer. Also it very well could have been Jones' choice.

I love how everyone is looking out for Judy Allen's money and assuming they do not want to go over the tax line cause even IF they used Bi-Ann they would either be just under or just over so not exactly a huge blow -- LOL

When we give away a draft pick and Skal to save money, that kinda gives you a hint that the business side is starting to matter more. And it's not just paying the tax, it's the implications of being in the tax and get in repeater territory. Unless we're looking like a top 2-3 team in the West, I would be SHOCKED if we are in the tax come seasons end.

After seeing some more money being thrown around.

Whatever, I'm fine with this deal. Hopefully he brings energy and defense to the second unit so we can stay even when Dame sits.

our teams inability to spread the floor and beat the trap in the playoffs would tend to indicate that yes we do need more shooting.
I think defense hurt us more We Got killed on defense and rebounds we’ve drastically improved that without digging into our core or youth. Trent should be even more reliable and I think Simons will settle down and give us some scoring punch off the bench

also, aaron gordon deserved more to with that dunk contest

Well he might not be 3 point shooter but more slasher type player. Very good defender and loves to dunk. He also put up 19 against us in Miami.

Agree, we will be much improved defensively especially if Collins can contribute.
Jones is a high flyer for sure!

Well. We had Trent and Melo last year, both 40% shooters, and we couldn't beat the trap. I think playmaking more than shooting is what we need.
Don't forget Dame, CJ and Ariza... we couldn't beat the trap because we don't move the ball or guys off the ball well. Mostly it's because our release valve was CJ and the guy doesn't make quick enough decisions to take advantage of whoever is left uncovered.

With two legit wing defenders, hopefully we stop seeing role players on opposing teams having career nights against us

They have Olynyk, literally a better Leonard.
He's 6'11", sorry to be a stickler, he also isn't as athletic as Meyers and again I don't think it's good to assume that Jones walking was the Heat's decision.

Who shoots 28% from 3 and who will get stuck in the corner in a half-court heavy offense. Terrible fit.
Ok so that’s one end of the floor. If he shot 3% better would everyone be happy? He is a long athletic defender. What everrrrryone has been asking for. “We miss Aminu”. So they get a younger more athletic guy who isn’t out there to shoot threes. He’s there to move without the ball and defend. Why does he need to sit in the corner and miss threes? That’s the scenario you came up with to evaluate the entire deal?

I hope you watched the playoffs, where they literally played Olynyk every single minute that would have otherwise gone to Leonard.

And the reports are the Heat weren't going to match the Blazers deal. That's why Jones is with us now.

I don’t get all the dismay. Young defensive role player to help Dame and CJ be able to concentrate on being offensive beasts.

Just look at the wing defense next year vs last.
Little with 1 more year experience
Hood back healthy
Covington bringing both ends
Jones who is a fantastic athlete and long as shit
Trent Jr if we go small
No Mario

those are all big positives. Only drawback is no Ariza

im loving it, especially adding some bench scoring in Kanter. We just need Collins to be healthy and a back up PG

I'm fine with adding Jones to the roster.

Its using the full 9 mil MLE, the resulting hardcap, losing the ability to take a contract back in a Whiteside sign and trade, then giving jones a player option on year two so if he is good we lose him if he suck we are stuck with him.

Jones was projected to earn under 5 million and we gave him 19.

Same logic as giving Turner 70 million.

Obviously glad olshey didn't have another 50million to screw up with.

Lakers get Harrell and we get Jones who played less than Meyers fucking Leonard.

After seeing some of these deals, I don't know if that's true.

Robin Lopez got "just under the MLE".

Robin freaking Lopez.

Even if there isn't a lot of teams with capspace this offseason, there also aren't a lot of good players, which means everyone else who only has the MLE are all fighting for the same guys.

I'm happy that we're at least starting to address the horrific defense of this team. There's only so much we can do unless we trade CJ in my opinion. It would be cool to see CJ moved now. Things would make sense a bit more. I'm pretty excited for Derrick Jones Jr. now. It might also signal that Stotts is willing to change up his offense a bit more from last season. Here's hoping.

About the same size as Little, not as long of a wingspan, and probably not even as good of a shooter.

Color me a bit skeptical.

People that are upset with this signing.
He’s basically harkless with a lot more athleticism. Harkless couldnt hit from the outside either but he improved a bit in Portland. I know that’s not going to wow anyone but he has a lot of potential. He can defend right away too

With that 2nd unit if I was Stotts they should be pushing the ball.
