Dion Waiters

Dion Waiters, Syracuse, .529, .363, 21.0, 4.1, 3.0, 7.4, 1.9: Even though he was the 6th man at Syracuse this past season, Waiters emerged from a talented group of Orange perimeter players to become the most effective scorer and top perimeter defender on the team. This came after a difficult freshman year, after which he almost transferred. It’s always a good sign when a player accepts a challenge and improves his game rather than looking for greener pastures.

The most impressive number Waiters posted was a 3.0 S40 (Steals per 40 minutes). Combined with his 21.0 P40 and .529 2-point percentage this puts Waiters in some elite company among college sophomore SGs. I found only 3 other SGs who accomplished this in recent years.

Every scouting report says that he can get into the paint at will and can absorb contact and finish. That will translate.

That's one aspect of his game, but there's others that there are question marks about (just like every other prospect of course). I'm always really interested to see how guys with perceived attitude, motor, or mentality issues translate. I think the only one of those that has been mentioned with Waiters has been attitude though.

I don't see how he's going to score on all the bigger 2's in the league.

Eric Gordon, 6'2-even w/o shoes, managed to average 21 PPG with a PER just under 20 in the past two years.

I'm not comparing athleticism but Waiters is athletic as well.

Yeah, Gordon can get away with being 6'2 because he has a longer wingspan and a 40" vert.

I fail to see how Waiters is Balyess-Rex at 6'2.5" w/o shoes with a 6'7.25 wingspan...

Those are your words not mine. Gordon has a 6'9" wingspan and a 40" vert. You're the one who compared Waiters to Gordon, I'm telling you why they are different. You brought up Bayless.

If were comparing a player to Gordon, it should be Beal.

Undersized players scare me

Waiters' game seems fit as a 6th man in the NBA.

Almost 2" in wingspan seperate Gordon and Waiters. Thats a big difference. Gordon's 40" vert is elite atheleticism.

But only an inch in standing reach.

Moot point considering you don't even know what Waiters' vert is.

Nope.

But I'll go out on a limb and say he has a very respectable vertical.

lol...I love the wording they use in the video for him...

lethal scorer...impossible to keep out of the lane , can torch you in a variety of ways....

I do like how has that little fade in his jumper...

If Waiters had a 40" vert he'd be showing the world. But, instead he decides to keep it anonymous.

This thread happened a few days before Waiters cancelled everything. DX mentioned that Olshey "fell for" Waiters -- but I'm guessing our scouts had more to do with that than him.

Without a GM I'm pretty sure the scouts had a gameplan in place for the new GM this close to the draft.

Bingo... If they don't draft Waiters it will be because he didn't fall to #11 or Olshey isn't nearly as high on him as the rest of the scouts.

He canceled interviews (let alone workouts) before the combine even started.

I think to make sure he'd be available at #6, we'd make this kind of promise.

How the fuck is his stock rising when he hasn't worked out or interviewed with anyone? Makes no sense. You're going off of what scouts say. A lot of scouts say similar things about Lillard.

Fez Hammersticks could get into the paint at will in the Big Sky Conference, too.

Just sayin.

MickZagger could be a bench player for Syracuse.

Just sayin.

I normally can't stand the FIFY shit, but this yours is much better

I just thought mine was more definitive. You would totally fail in the NBA. Leaving it as "could" implies you had a snowball's chance in hell of succeeding.

But don't be sad - that still leaves you on par with Syracuse players.

Amick now has him going 7th. I hope Portland doesn't chase after that one.

When Terrence Jones and Baylor forward Perry Jones faced off in a June 11 workout for Golden State, the Warriors were hoping that one of those two prospects would show an ability to play small forward and possibly become their pick as a result. But that didn't happen, and I'm told that Waiters has supplanted Terrence Jones

RT @HenrySanchez: makes no sense for Raptors when they have DeRozan already ---> Waiters says he's a point guard
