You don't know who the next big time coach will be. Nobody knew Greg Popovich or Phil Jackson would be the multiple championship winners that they ended up being. Sometimes you have to roll the dice to find the next big time coach. But we won't do that because we keep hiring shitty retread coaches that weren't successful before and haven't been successful with our team either.

Stotts

It's a storybook of mediocrity.
Jerry Krause knew Phil Jackson and Tex Winters were good. He had them in place before he fired Doug Collins.

Make sure you have somebody better. If Stotts is no good that shouldn't be a problem.

Man, I hope we go all the way. Sayin that, I think it depends more on Dame than Stotts.

Videos like this depress me. Is it possible Neil is just being nice? Seems delusional

On some days, I think I could even tolerate Stotts, if his ego wasn't too weak to bring in some more coaches and give them more responsibilities. A defensive specialist. Somebody who would only be responsible for design and assigning inbounds plays. A big man coach who is actually big.

Sure, but nobody else knew. He was really an unknown commodity at that point, and that's my point. There are promising people out there that haven't had a shot yet and I'd rather try one of them then hire another retread.

I would agree with you on that.

Hopefully we win it all...

But we win if we lose in the first or second round too, as that will make sure stotts gets fired too.

A lot to look forward to!

Stotts and Olshey:

The two celebrates making consecutive playoffs lol. Not to compete but just continue the streak. smh

Neil and Terry after making the playoffs every year!

To me, in sports, someone who got "embarrassed" lost bad to a team they should've beat. Again, that's just me, but when I played, I would be literally embarrassed in those scenariors. Also, "any time" = "every time " to me.

So, as I originally stated, I do not feel the Blazers lost to inferior Top 4 teams int he West every time they played them. Just like I don't think this is the worst Blazer team in the last 30+ years.

But I am giving you a hard time for your hyperbole!
Many years ago, I played in the NBA Entertainment League. We were playing the Lakers who had Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Frankie Muniz, and Justin Timberlake among others. Snoop dominated cuz no one would box him out except for me. So we were losing the game and I had the ball with about 10 seconds left and Timberlake was guarding me. He backs off me out of pity to like give me a chance (I hadn’t scored all game) and I shot the ball and missed everything. Now THAT was embarrassing,

This is a very positive negative post.

Not negative, realistic.

Team doesn't make it to the conference finals, stotts is gone. What a glorious day that'll be! One for the record books!

But if win the finals that's good too.

So win-lose(conference finals)-lose(in the finals)-win.

And if we do win the finals or get to the finals or conference finals, won't be because of stotts. Just in spite of.

So yes, realistic.

If this team gets to the finals, win or lose, it would be stupid to not have him finish out his last year. Especially if they plan on signing Norm. Realistically....

I can only imagine if Stotts got fired after the losing streak how many people would be certain this 10-2 finish was proof he was holding us back. Any response saying we would've finished 10-2 with him anyway would've been dismissed so quickly.

I’m worried that we have a very winnable matchup with the nuggets, that we make it to the second round (before getting smoked), and that because we won a series, stotts won’t have “done enough” to get fired.

For a guy who preaches that “coaching doesn’t matter,” you sure do defend Stotts a lot.

So what exactly did Stotts do in the final 12 games to help them win? Or was it Dame being tired of the losses, calling a players-only meeting, and getting everyone on the same page? Not to mention how absurdly well Dame played in that stretch. If Dame averages 20-25 ppg in that same stretch (instead of the 30+), we would be talking about the Blazers in the play-in.

Hell, we almost were talking Blazers in the play-in... we just got gifted our sixth seed by the Nuggets.

I just want to remind everyone that Stotts is the coach (I don't give a shit about strength of schedule) who couldn't get a better winning percentage out of a team with CJ and Nurk than he did without them. That might speak to the way Neil has constructed the roster poorly but it is for sure still a referendum on Terry's poor coaching.

How was I defending him? Have I given him any credit for winning 10 out of 12?

I think what I was pointing out was exactly my overall theory.

Thinking this Blazer team, without Nurk/CJ for a combined 60 games would be cruising into the playoffs as the 4th seed in the West would unrealistic expectations in my opinion.

Fire him no matter what
Hopefully the fact that he “dressed up” in a suit and tie for the last regular season game was a sign that he knows he is being fired. Maybe he was expecting a salute or standing ovation for coaching his last regular season game in Portland? A guy can dream.
