So if the draft were to be held today and the Nets were choosing at #10, #21 and #40 who would you <u>realisticly</u> choose?

My choices:

#10 - Chris Douglas-Roberts (great wing player the Nets need that can play great defense and is also good offensively).

#21 - Darrell Arthur (I've liked him for 2 years and I still do even though he isn't as dominant as I hoped for at this stage. Big, athletic, good defender, some low post moves, and can run the floor.)

#40 - Lester Hudson (combo guard that shoots great and plays defense. Insurance for Marcus.).

I'll deal with the first round later, but no way am I taking Lester Hudson over Jamont Gordon if Gordon stays in the draft.

Drafting CDR at 10 is WAY too high and no way Arthur is there at 21. Switch those picks around; Arthur at 10 and CDR at 21.

If I'm the Nets I'm trying to get Anthony Randolph at 10. Arthur would be a nice pick as hes got some scoring game on the block but like you said he hasn't been as dominant as you would like from a guy with his skillset and hes highly inconsistent. Randolph is younger, taller, a better athlete (not that Arthur is a slouch but Randolph is a freak), hes better in almost every statistical category. His post moves aren't as advanced as Arthur's but I like his activity more and his jumpshot and handle are better than Arthur's. I think that Randolph has the potential to be a star at 6'11 with great tools and athleticism, he could be like a Rashard Lewis, like a Dirk Nowitzki, like a Chris Bosh, like a Josh Smith, or have aspects of all of their games. Granted, he'll take a while to develop. Arthur is more NBA ready at 6'9 and what looks like about 235-245 (hes listed at 225 but hes clearly bulked up since his freshman season). However, I don't think Arthur will be a star. Hes not overly impressive in any area; his rebounding is ok for a PF but nothing special, hes got some nice scoring skills but I really doubt he'll be more than a 15-17 point scorer in his prime, hes a decent shotblocker but again nothing special. He can be a solid all around PF but not exceptional. Randolph can be a true stud.

I don't kow what else the Nets really need down at 21. Assuming they need a wing player I'd take a long look at CDR and Tyler Smith. Earl Clark could be considered but I see him more in them old of a combo SF/PF which would be redundant after taking Randolph. The Nets seem to need more of a SG/SF anyway.

I want a wing that is more suitable to guarding quicker perimeter players and hit from deep. I don't think Budinger can effectively guard that far out.

Give me Blake Griffin, if he declares, Gallo or Anthony Randolph at 10. I doubt Gallo or Griffin fall to 10 but you never know. I'll even take Kevin Love over Arthur and Roberts.

And give me Brandon Rush or Shan Foster with Dallas' pick.

I'm going under the assumption that CDR will move up the charts by the time of the draft. Arthur culd last until 21. I like to draft more polished players. Randolph is too much of a project for my liking and I also think he'll be gone by #10. Gallinari will definitely not last til 10.

The Nets have a lot of "good" players select in the late teens and early 20s, they need to draft a guy who can be a "stud" - there won't be that many available at 10, so I think they need to trade up. Perhaps 10/21/40 to Memphis for 5/27.

#40 Sean Singletary (I don't want any European projects and Sean Singletary reminds me so much of Chris Paul. I can't believe Singletary is bearly projected to get drafted. Other than Derrick Rose, Singletary will be the best PG picked in this draft.)

You have to consider the current roster when deciding who to draft. The Nets already have five respectable big men, at least three of whom should be better next year (Krstic, Boone, and Williams). Three could leave as free agents, and the two who can't are young defensive oriented PFs. It doesn't make sense to draft a PF unless he brings something different - strong offense - or unless we're ready to give up on the players we already have.

The situation is similar at point guard. Hopefully Harris and Williams will both be effective and leave very few minutes to a third stringer. Next offseason we'll have a better idea of whether Williams is a solid rotation player or a bust. If the latter, that will be the time to get another point guard.

Having said all that, I would be happy to draft a likely future superstar at those positions. Michael Beasley and Derrick Rose are welcome here, but I don't think such a player would be available at pick #10.

At the wing we have two solid starters but not much else. Nachbar has his moments but is inconsistent and Hassell is a situational sub rather than a real rotation player. So I would use both first round picks on wings. Shooting ability and respectable defense are important; slashing and ball handling are less important.

At the first pick, Mayo and Gordon will probably be gone, so I would probably take Batum or Douglas-Roberts. At the second pick, I like Courtney Lee.

Keep in mind that everyone on the current roster could be used in a trade or not re-signed. With that in mind do you want more than 1 rookie player at any particular position? If the Nets don't keep Boki I expect them to sign another free agent wing. I don't see them relying on 2 rookies to back-up that position. And as many bigs as the Nets have, none are very effective at creating offence in the low post, so I expect they may take a stab at another big. And Williams and Boone need to work on their jumpshot as well.

As Dumpy pointed out for the Netsdaily blog he did, the Nets prefer to draft older players from big schools. They need an outside shooter and a backup at the 2 position.

Eric Gordon fits the bill for big school and outside shooter, just not the age part. Gordon's stock has been falling since IU started to play so bad just before the big ten tourney, but he was playing with an injured wrist. Bigs tend to go quicker than swingmen and point guards, so that could be another reason he falls. As long as the Nets continue to play like they have been (not well), I'm going to hold out hope for him b/c he would be a nice fit.

And don't forget Coach Frank is an IU guy himself.

A player who can help out a need, but Nets would have to draft him earlier than he would be drafted is Shan Foster of Vanderbilt. 6'6 205lbs SG,the guy is a sharpshooter FG% is 52.3 he averaged around 4 3-pointers a game shooting it at 47%. Not really good at anything else, but he could definitely help out.

I think he's the best pure shooter in the draft. Would love to have him, but I think he would be a real reach at #21 (especially since he is just a shooter and there could be better options at that spot) and I don't think he would last until #40.

Considering all that the Nets have been through the past few seasons, having too many quality big men is not something I'd worry about. However, if they do draft a big, I'd like it to be someone that can score from the low post.

As much as I'm not a fan of Kevin Love's NBA prospects, on the Nets he could be properly used as a 20 MPG role player and succeed. Hibbert and Hendrix can both score, but each has their issues and their projected spots aren't good matches for the Nets picks.

2nd round is based upon record. The lottery doesn't impact it.

I don't really care much about the second round or our later first yet, but assuming Rose, Beasley, Mayo, Bayless, and Lopez are gone, my next five are:

Gallinari, Gordon, Batum, Randolph, Jordan

with that, I'd expect Batum to be the highest who lasts to us. With the later first, I guess I'd go with CDR or Rush if they last that long.

Sounds like you may like Hansbrough? I agree about Rush.

I don't get the Hansbrough love. He's mentally and physically stronger than college players. He's also older than most of them. That doesn't really translate to a good NBA player to me.
