I am as big of a Duck fan as there is. I think Herbert is very very good. Yet they are still over rating him because of his NFL size and arm strength. His weakness is he is average when throwing on the run. Not bad, but he will need to improve that skill IMO. O-Lines in the NFL have a very hard time with pass rushers. He will be running for his life.

The best Oregon NFL QB (after Fouts) has been Chris Miller.......because he was a master of throwing on the run.

like I said, a bit...I'm rarely accused of being a Homer...

I'll note what I said, besides the pessimistic part: "the Duck defense might be vulnerable to some big runs and play-action the Huskies use a lot"

the dawgs had some big runs and they scored 3 of their TD's off play-action
*****************************************************

Herbert had the yips early for about half the game. A lot of off-target throws. But after the dawgs took a 14 point lead in the 3rd Q, Herbert led the Ducks to a 21-3 advantage, on the road in a tough place to play. That's a good QB at work

I think the Duck defense has been a little overrated coming into this game, an UW had a great game plan behind a real good OLine. Still, they stopped the dawgs when it mattered
They've given up 83 points in seven games which is pretty decent. Plus they are super young. I think Utah is 79 points in 6 games and they are looked at as the best D in the Pac12.

Harrington threw on the run a little bit.

Some of those misses today were missed routes.
He's a top 5 qb which isnt to shabby and actually if he slips, all the better for him, team wise with hopefully an O line and lightening quick receivers. He missed his #1 target TE too.
And, with 5 games left, who knows?
A Top 5qb in college??? Hurts, Tua, Lawrence, Fromm, burrow, Ehlinger off the top of my head... Not that Herbert is bad but with all the #1 pick talk I think thats why many Oregon fans find him over rated. He may be a fine NFL QB someday, but I dont think he’s ever been a dominant college QB.

Season ain't over yet.

I think he will be a top 5 qb taken the in the draft. 5 games left though.

Besides it only a couple guys ESPN that have been shouting how great he is when in reality they are not always right.

He may be the first, but Im not sure that proves he’s been a great college QB. He’s been good... He’s used his legs so little this year the option is like the worst option Ive ever seen lol.

Sorry.
I have to go with Norm Van Brocklin then Dan Fouts.

I wonder that all the time. Why doesn’t he keep it once in a blue moon. He should avg 20-25 yards a game. He’s a great runner from the little times I seen.

I may be crazy, I have no proof but he’s already been hurt before. He could have left for the NFL last year, I think its by design to keep him from getting hurt.

Today neither qb ran much. Im not sure Mario wants to risk his qb when he has a back field. Also, Arroyo was a qb that didn't run much and now is playing the odds to keep is qb healthy. Just my opinion.

Why keep running it though... The defense doesnt respect him running at all in that play and he never makes em pay for it.

I know he's not run much or looked to run, I think thats by design. I do like how they are play action passing the ball and using Redd. They now have a good balance going with their backs, checjk out what the three did today. Keep a qb healthy with 9 conference games is key anymore. There are a few out now in the Pac12.

I understand, though Im not a huge fan of their current backs, the line is great though. Its just when the end crashes every time and you still hand the ball off its not much of a read... The play action pass has definitely been there no doubt.

I just checked the Pac12 games so far and there is only two QB that really ran the ball at all. Ca & Ucla
I looked at SEC and even Tua has only run once & From 1 or twice.
I know Cristobal believes the line protects his qb and its job is to spring backs.
I would venture to say that if the Ducks are in the Pac 12 playoff and looks good now, Herbert will take more chances with the run option.

we'll find out, but they run the "read option" a lot and it seems pretty clear the defense knows he's not running lol.

Verdell sucks imo.. But that Habibi kid though deserves most of the runs. He’s nice..

Literally keeps it 100% of the time. I’ve seen numerous times already this season if he kept it he would have gained a ton of yards with how open he is.. That’s what made Mariota so damn good. Herbert can fly too is what’s crazy also

The Cal game his sophomore year where he broke his collar bone on a QB sneak .......and the disaster that occurred after he was lost for half the season, is not easily forgotten. The less my QB runs the better IMO

lol...the best Oregon QB is the one Duck to win a Heisman

OMG seriously? Read it closely. Yes MM is the best Oregon QB, but that is not what we are discussing. We are discussing the best Oregon QBs in the NFL. Pro Bowl players like Chris Miller. And HOF players like Fouts and Van Brocklin. No one is debating who was the best QB was while at Oregon.

I do see a lot of NFL traits in Herbert. His progressions are top notch, his footwork in the pocket is great, his ability to throw it to where only his guy can get it or no one is coveted. For instance, he had some bad throws...but they weren't picks. He's playing cautious which is what Russell Wilson does better than anyone and he's the front runner for MVP. I'm not saying he's Russ, but to play it safe is 1/2 the battle. Time will tell.

Anybody else think Herbert is overrated?
Personally, I think he's "good" but nowhere near all the hype he gets.
He has an "NFL body" but dam he misses way too many easy gimmes, and rarely goes deep.
I don't get it....
But as long as that defense shows up, they'll be ok..
He seems pretty bad. A four year starter and when chased out of the pocket (but no close pursuers) he still can't get squared up and feet set and make a good pass. It seemed most of his passes in the second half were easy short throws. Both the touchdowns succeeded because of scheme and blocking. Of all the games I watched yesterday, every other quarterback looked better.

you're right, I missed that part...quit hiding the topic in plain sight in the first sentence....and the last.
