For sure.. guys like Flowe might be gone as well...

Flowe can never stay on the field anyways. I’m hoping Aranda is the guy. You’ll see recruits stay with his potential hiring.

I would hope they give their best shot at Aranda and Fickell. Both would be swing swings, but Mullen's has to give it a shot. I don't think any other options are on that level.

Makes sense. I don't blame him.
Agree. Sorry but after all that was expected, only to hit a huge pothole, the Alamo Bowl feels like the Outhouse Bowl. The Ducks should start Thompson, and let him get more live reps in preparation for next year. Or he may enter the transfer portal as well. Live reps is the real way to learn. I know he threw a couple picks when he got in late but he's learning. Otherwise, this bowl will probably be a snooze fest.

I think if they do that they'll burn his RedShirt... Otherwise I'd agree.

Phil will bring in somebody good. Hopefully long term.

I know Thompson played in 3 games for sure. He's allowed 4. Did he play in a 4th already. I watched a majority of the games here in Colorado, but missed a couple due to them being on the Pac 12 Network.

Not sure.

there's no doubt that Oregon will contact both, or at least their representatives. The Ducks contacted a lot of big names right after they fired Helfrich, and after Chip left. They just didn't get much interest in return. Guys like Rhule and Hermann had no interest at all.

the only coach who had any interest was PJ Fleck. And a head coach of Western Michigan isn't a big name. He's also pretty loopy, or at least he was at the time

now, just maybe, after Mario has shown you can recruit big-time to Eugene, and with the Ducks seemingly willing to spend over 8M/ year for a HC, the equation has changed. Not sure what it's worth, or if it's even true, but the rumor is while Baylor has offered Aranda an extension, he hasn't accepted and signed yet. Of course, he may just be waiting for some school like Oregon to come calling so he has leverage to force Baylor into upping the offer

now, Aranda has a lot of west coast ties; Fickell has been in Ohio his whole football life; so there's that. I'd agree Aranda should be the #1 target. Then maybe Fickell and Matt Campbell. I'm just not optimistic about the Ducks' chances with any. But I guess 8-10M/year is pretty persuasive. I sure think Baylor would match though. Cincinnati might not

It's time for the Ducks to hire a Gary Anderson type of garbage coach. God, that still pisses me off. At Thanksgiving this year I was thankful for Jonathan Smith.

None of you care and I'm okay with that.

Ducks have been there, done that....see Mark Helfrich

Ducks should just grab Wilcox. That is probably his dream job. Get another guy that can last 20 years like Belotti. I'm still annoyed Belotti left. He was great and making things happen when I was still a Duck fan.

Id be ok with that. Let him pay his assistants decent money and go to work.

brace yourselves...the latest buzz for the current leader, or t least one who has interest in the job and the Ducks have interest in him: Lane Kiffin

Seen that on 247. Sounded more like it was someone's opinion that he take advantage and jump now for the west coast opportunity.
He would be real interesting for sure!

Didn’t Ole Miss just give him a huge contract extension last week?

Yeah, not sure the size but I think the buyout is the same.

Wilcox is a garbage coach tho

DeRuyters is headed to Texas Tech.

his defense had a lot of bad games. 118th out of 130 teams in opponent 3rd down conversion rate was a big reason. 2 years ago, when the Ducks won the Pac-12 and the Rose Bowl, they were 22nd

How about a young guy like Avalos as coach? The guy from Baylor was a defensive coordinator and seems to be high on everyone's list. Andy is also a CA guy.

Boise State had their worst record this season since 1998. That's not a good sign for Avalos as a head coach. At Boise State, Chris Peterson lost 12 games in 8 seasons; Avalos lost 5 in his first season. There may be some mitigating circumstances in this, but still....

The guy at Baylor didnt do spectacular his first year either.

Just seems that most of the candidates Ive heard about didn't come out of the gate quick. Even DeBore at WA.

ok...but he went 11-2 his 2nd season. We don't know what Avalos will do in his 2nd season.

personally I think both carry lots of risk. Aranda has only coached 2 seasons, Avalos just 1. At least with guys like Fickell & Kiffin there are several seasons of gauges

The Chip era was really fun but it's over. We've seen what someone who is motivated can do with the beautiful facilities at Oregon when it comes to recruiting.

Recruiting is not Chip's strong point.

If we have to find a new coach we have to move forward, not backward.

A week ago, when somebody told me Brian Kelly had left for LSU, For a second, I thought they were referring to Chip Kelly. Makes more sense. Chip would revolutionize the SEC! It would be akin to a food fight on Animal House.

Do you really think the Ducks are playing their cards face up on this search? I'd expect their true targets would rather not let their current employers know they're interviewing and they're throwing out red herrings to keep the speculation at bay. Besides generally being perceived as a scumbag, the longest Lane has ever stayed at any coaching gig is 3 years. Given the desertion of their last two HCs, does that sound like the sort of guy they want to reload around?
