Do you really think the Ducks are playing their cards face up on this search? I'd expect their true targets would rather not let their current employers know they're interviewing and they're throwing out red herrings to keep the speculation at bay. Besides generally being perceived as a scumbag, the longest Lane has ever stayed at any coaching gig is 3 years. Given the desertion of their last two HCs, does that sound like the sort of guy they want to reload around?

I like Kiffin a lot. He’s matured quite a bit from his early years, is a good recruiter and a super innovative offensive mind.

Wilner is a pretty in tune source too.

maybe. I'm kind of skeptical that Oregon is seriously looking at Kiffin. So far, the only two named coaches the Ducks are/have interviewed are Kalani Sitake and Justin Wilcox

smh... I am fully aware that they are publicly pursuing Lane among others, but (again) think he's an obvious red herring candidate. Coaching/recruiting aside, given his history and reputation he's not the sort I think Mullins will choose to head the program. Like everyone, I've been wrong before but I'd be shocked if he's the guy. Regardless the press has a job to do and stories will be filed. Via sources the program is giving them something to report while maintaining the integrity of their process.

I've read on rivals that the Sitake interview wasn't great (though I'd love that hire) & that Wilcox seriously PO'd PK years back and is unlikely.

Hope not but I dont think there are that many out there now that are interested in the job.
Id rather have Wilcox with some good assistant coaches than Chip?

I would too. Wilcox has more upside. Chip isn't going to change and he's a poor recruiter

honestly, I'd rather Sitake than either of them

but I do believe that is all Phil Knight. I think he's really tired of the coaching instability since Bellotti retired. I'm assuming, if Chip is the hire, he got some reassurances that Chip won't bolt for greener pasture in the next 2 or 4 years. If so, those assurances aren't worth much

Sitake would be good, but he's in good situation at BYU plus he's a devout Morman and Alumni. Going to the big 12 will be decent for BYU.

Chip would be a terrible hire imo

are they not gonna wait and try for Fickell? Or did he say no? I thought that he only had said that he was waiting until his team is eliminated before talking to other programs.

Mario made assurances that he wouldn't bolt for greener pastures. Those assurances turned out to be worth 9Mil (for UM to pay) which is more then double an average annual salary of the current Pac 12 Head Coaches. I'm with you on the guess that PK desires stability and expect the buyout for the next HC to be even steeper.

I think it will be a bigger name than people think. I think all these other interviews were hearing about is them just kicking all the tires and making sure it’s a fair process.

I dont know? Hope you are right I heard there could be a college surprise which is an odd way to throw it out there unless its Peterson?

Have you dudes not paid attention to how much Meyer sucks in Jacksonville? Everyone seems to hate him there.

Canzano
It’s a process… I’m told the next 24-72 hours of this Ducks search could bring a twist. Important to remember we’re viewing hiring process through a keyhole. My read: Door One NFL candidate Mystery college candidate Door Two Justin Wilcox Chip Kelly Kalani Sitake

Who's the Mystery College Candidate?

So ignore the 20 years leading up to that in college football?
He seems like a total egotistical sleaze bag. Jacksonville has some of the best owners in the league and his team hates him. Those seem like red flags to me.

He obviously has had much success in college so maybe he can again. The guy lies and has a troubled history though.
