You’re completely missing the boat if you want Oregon to stay in the pac 12. That would be the dumbest thing ever. Being kings of the g league doesn’t matter.

Aside from the money gap, I’m sure the B1G and SEC are gonna be increasing scholarship limits eventually.

Oregon has to preserve the option.

I don't know if the Big-10 will ever invite Oregon to the dance. That fairly well connected big-10 guy I linked earlier seem pretty convinced that if Notre Dame applies to join the Big-10 in the next 2 months, Oregon-Washington-Stanford will soon follow. I don't know if that's true or not but everything I've read implies that the most valuable media asset the Pac-12 is the ability to have power-5 teams fill those 'after dark' time slots. That's been a money-maker for ESPN, and I'm certain Fox would like to have the 5 most marketable teams from the Pac-12 in the Big-10 and have their own version of the 'Big-10 After Dark'. I was recently told by somebody who may or may not have his finger on the pulse of things Duck related (he has before) that Fox Sports wants a 20-team Big-10 in 2024 with 5 Pacific coast teams; but that several Big-10 schools (maybe not a majority) are more conservative. The commissioner of the Big-10 seems a lot more aggressive when it comes to expansion

he also said that some of the Big-10 schools like the idea that 2 of the 4 or 5 home games for the Pacific teams would be other Pacific teams. They are not looking forward to trips out West and 5 Pacific teams would mean the traditional Big-10 teams would fly west a lot less

in any event, the Ducks (and Washington/Stanford) can not afford to get locked into a longer term GOR. The ACC is a case study in the issues of a restrictive GOR

if the best 40-48 teams in the country are in the Big-10 & SEC, those two conferences will very likely tell the NCAA to pound sand. The NCAA is mostly neutered at this point anyway

I think the two super-conferences will eventually agree on some form of baseline stipends for athletes. Increase scholarship limits? I don't know but the NCAA could not stop them if they wanted to. I think the only rules governing the super-conferences would be federal laws like Title 9 and state laws. NIL is just going to become a series of legal slush funds

I get that Oregons best strategy may be to preserve the option of not signing a PAC GOR, but can they do that if there is a 5 year one on the table that is reasonable? What if the big10 says we wont be ready for 3/5 years? If read where they have some concerns about how fast they shop the PAC and leave it dead in the water?

If the rest of the Pac-12 members intend to stick together, can Oregon and Washington be convinced to sign a long-term grant of rights that binds them to their fellow members? For any schools still holding out hope for a Big Ten invitation, that could be a non-starter.

Asked Friday about the grant-of-rights issue, Oregon AD Rob Mullens sounded noncommittal: “I think what you have seen in the marketplace is that a shorter TV deal is better. For us, a shorter grant of rights seems to be better for the long-term health of our program and the league.”
“Everything will have to be on the table,” Mullens said. “We want that deal to get as close to (the Big Ten and SEC) as possible. We’re not unrealistic in what to expect, but I do think there’s a creative way to close that gap.”

as far as a shorter term GOR, you have to keep in mind that the current Pac-12 media contract runs till August of 2024. A 5 year GOR (which is likely the shortest any media would agree too, and probably too short) would end in August of 2029. That's 7 years from now. Oregon won't be signing anything like that unless they know that the Big-10 (or SEC) was not an option. That's simply too long a time frame in the rapidly changing landscape

I was talking about the idea that the Big-10 could be sued by the Pac-12 which led to the notion that the Big-10 would be cautious about further raiding the Pac-12. The Big-10 didn't approach USC, it was the other way around and Fox was involved. And the Big-10 didn't approach Oregon-UofW-Stanford, it was the other way around. I mean....where exactly was it you read that the Big-10 was concerned about shopping in the Pac-12? I've been paying close attention and I know of only one 'source' for that

Mullens said nothing...yeah, he talked but he was very circumspect and completely non-committal in what he said. Kliavkoff is doing the best he can (I assume) with a bad situation. If there is even a small chance that Oregon-Washington-Stanford can join the Big-10 in 2024 after the current Pac-12 media deal expires, why would any of the schools lock themselves into a GOR that kept them off the Big-10 bus, which in turn could cost them 80M/year?

to be sure, it probably makes it impossible for Kliavkoff to negotiate a new deal if 3 Pac-12 teams are flirting with the Big-10 and 4 others are flirting with the Big-12. But, IMO, if Oregon is willing to sign a long-term GOR (and 5 years is long term right now) that's because they have been explicitly told by the Big-10 (and SEC) there's no chance they can join for the next 7-10 years

this is kind of why entire landscape of the Power-5 conferences are waiting on Notre Dame

Young though they may be, Evans and Cook could potentially be a Tatum-Brown type combination at Oregon if they come in and play together.

No silly, his Junior year was last year. His Senior year is about to start & early signing day is 3 months away.

Again, if you don't care to follow recruiting thats fine. Just showing up to bitch at people who do enjoy it and actually know whats going on, pretty lame.
