If that guy had come in and made a 58 yard field goal, I would have been quite annoyed. That would have been on the coaches for that illegal substitution which not only gave them 5 yards but gave them an extra play since clock started on the snap after a penalty. Although I also think NC made a mistake spiking when they had 8 seconds left. That would have been time to get a longer out of bounds play to try to put them in FG range..

well, after a dismal 1st half the Duck defense came out inspired in the 2nd half. They held the 14 best offense in FBS that came in averaging 474 yards/game to 322 yards

* for the first 53 minutes of the game it looked like Mario came back and was calling the plays. There was only one pass that traveled more than 8 years downfield. Then, on the last two drives it was back to the Oregon offense we saw all year; TD's on both drives....wacky stuff

* after looking shaky many times during the year, Trikweze Bridges looked like a lock-down CB this game. Made up for the loss of Gonzalez

* he didn't register a lot of tackles but Oregon native Keith Brown played well enough that Sewell wasn't missed; and he was better in pass coverage than Sewell

* speaking of Oregon natives, very fitting that the last reception of Chase Cota's college career was a game-winning TD

I hope nobody bet on the game. You probably lost against the over/under and spread if you did.

normally, I'd be rooting for Pac-12 teams to win bowl games

but I will never root for the stinking huskies. And I won't root for USC & UCLA after the slimy way they fucked over the Pac-12. So I guess it's "Go Utah!"

Yeah I don't consider USC or UCLA to be part of the PAC12 anymore.

Back on the recruiting front, uncommitted 5* 2023 Washington DC athlete (DE/WR) Nyckoles Harbor has scheduled an OV to Eugene the weekend prior to the 2nd commitment day in February. He's long held the Ducks in high regard including them in his previous top 7. He's listed 6'5 220 and previously visited Oregon for track. He's stated he wants to be a part of a great incoming class.

The Duck defense desperately needs this guy.

rumor is he wants to play on offense as a receiver. He's about 25-30 pounds lighter than Thibideaux; not sure how good of an edge he'd be. Straight-line 100M speed doesn't always translate to burst

Why would we compare him to Thibodeaux now? Comparing him to Thibodeaux when he was in high school, Harbor is basically the exact same size.

http://www.espn.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/222687/kayvon-thibodeaux

Not really. Thibs was listed at 240 in high school which is 15 pounds more than Harbor

more than that though is that Thibs was up to 258 as a sophmore:

upload_2022-12-29_21-13-25.png

and he had the kind of frame to add that weight without losing speed and twitch

yeah, it's possible Harbor can gain mass. But Thibs only had to gain 18 pounds in 2 years to get to 258; Harbor would have to gain 33 pounds and that's a lot to gain without losing speed

that's not to say that Harbor can't play edge in passing situations. But Thibs was big enough and strong enough to shed blocks by tackles and TE's and make stops on RB's as a down lineman....and he was that way as a freshman. He was an every-down DE. I'm just skeptical Harbor is going to get that big and that strong. He might be better as a LB.

Or he might actually be best as a 6'5, 225-230 pound hybrid wide-receiver/tight-end with elite speed. That's an NFL WR body like a Mike Williams or a D.K. Metcalf, and it's the kind of WR Oregon hasn't had since the butter-fingered Jaison Williams

Ducks men's basketbll. Ducks beat their hated rival Beavers 77-68 even while being out shot 50% to 27% from three, Richardson played all 40 minutes and pretty much willed the team to victory. He made a key three with about a minute left despite being really the only ball handler on the Ducks and being harassed all game, also having to play the very active style of Duck defense, and playing the full 40 minutes! Ducks outrebounded them 38-21

That's El Pres's favorite team right?

In the track tweet I relayed from April 2022, Nyckoles is listed 235. Yes, basically they're the same size in HS as TBpup said.

Several times every year Oregon has been releasing updated weight charts and guys his size are regularly adding or dropping 20+ pounds. With the help of a good training staff an athlete with his frame & burst can mold it & excel at a variety of track events and/or football positions... just fingers crossed it's at UO.

Harbor wants both — track and football. He’s focusing on TE especially split out as he has so far … however, he’s also talked about getting a lesser number of reps at edge. Regardless, he’s one to go all in on. They’re also working on Duce Robinson a TE in AZ — probably a Georgia or F-USC lean.

Wait, he was the only ball handler, harassed all game, led the team in points AND played active defense? I've heard numerous times, that doesn't happen.

I'm pretty skeptical of a T&F tweet from April

* 247 lists him as 225
* On3 lists him as 225
* Rivals lists him as 220
* ESPN lists him as 225

I watched his sprinting videos, and while he's certainly bigger than the other sprinters, he sure doesn't look 235-240 to me

If he commits to Oregon (still a long shot IMO. Him visiting isn't even a certainty yet) and shows up and is an effective edge as a freshman, I'll adjust my opinion. Right now I'm extremely skeptical he'll be an every-down edge in college. Those guys regularly have to set the edge while being blocked by OT's and TE's. Thibideaux had trouble with that as a freshman, but by his 2nd season had developed the mass and techniques to deal with that attention physically

Harbor might be more suited to a hybrid LB/edge rusher position. One where he's lining up as a LB more than as a down lineman. Oregon has had a lot of success with those type of players over the years. And, as I said, he might make for an awesome WR with his height, size, and speed

Seriously, do you actually believe one of these is correct today? How did these weights come to be? Most likely when he attended a football camp in one of the past summers. I know rivals hasn't changed his listed weight since at least February of 2022 as thats when he came to my attention as an Oregon target. The weight for a 17-18 year old guy his size who is working out constantly for different sports fluctuates quite a bit and we're talking 6-18 months since the measurement you want to hang your hat on was done. In the video below, he says he was 238 at the end of football season and is now 231.

I'm sure that every program he's focused on is telling him he can pursue whatever position he wants to play. He says he wants to be a hybrid WR/TE which makes sense physically if he's also to compete as a sprinter in track. But I'm sure if he has his heart set on playing the DLine like Kavon did, he'll have no real issues putting on the requisite weight to do so. Similarly I'm sure that Kavon could have been a hell of a TE had he wanted and that he'd have trained differently and come in lighter.

Lots of Oregon talk from him in the early part of the video below & then some true glowing about the state starting at 6:40. I also thought it noteworthy that he wants to be an Orthopedic surgeon.
