He takes it to another level, but thats on him. I would say it is always in response to some out of line post though. Once again, it comes back to who you were raised around. And acknowledging that what you guys are saying is actually considered hurtful to him. I would hope you and the others on here that seem to rally around each other on certain topics don’t really enjoy hurting other people the way it seems. If it’s all just about fucking with people and having fun....thats one thing. But there sure seems to be a lot of hate coming from your guys’ posts that seems very authentic. Just hoping it’s not being passed along to a younger generation.

On the other hand @dviss1 might be a little more touchy on the subject of racism than you or I. That’s totally understandable. For him (please correct me dviss if I’m wrong) he expects others who have read countless posts from a particular poster that step over the line to give dviss the credibility to call him out and have the rest of the community get his back from time to time.

@dviss1 and I have had conversations with one another from time to time where we don't agree. Not even remotely.
But just because I don't punch a brick wall doesn't mean I don't have his back.
He's still one of the few posters I think I could get along with on this forum irl.

Honestly? Because I see where is coming from on a lot of his opinions. I don’t think he will ever get across to you guys on here when he gets so upset, but thats just pent up frustration being released on the topic. I have friends who some might consider militant almost when in comes to rights for him and his fellow African Americans. Things they post on facebook, I don’t always agree with, but damn sure understand where they like dviss are coming from. These guys see it day in and day out where as with the majority on here, it doesn’t even register. dviss, in no way am I trying to speak for you, those were just my opinions.

I grew up in several different states and towns/cities among diverse groups of people. I have only heard the word edmucated and such dialect used that way to describe hillbillies.



I have family who are hillbillies. But, I am opened minded. I see others have seen it used differently and find it insulting. I can be understanding of that. I try to be careful with the words I use. For the most part I think I do ok. I am sure sometimes a word or words I have used have been taken out of context, or thought to mean something I don't. I do make a lot of jokes. Most are approriate. Some are probably not. I think its important to be deliberate but be conscious of what you say.

But the difference is that I go out and try to find proof to back it up. I don't just take one person's word for it.

Example: I bought a shotgun for trap shooting back in October. I got it on sale for almost half off. Today I found out that apparently Remington is a joke. They sold to another company in 2007 and since then they have gone completely in the toilet. Their guns rust, they jam, they are just overall bad quality. One person brought this up, and then another, and then another. I went to google and found multiple articles backing it up. I actually haven't taken the gun out of the original box because the weather has been so crummy.... but now I'm thinking of getting rid of it because I don't want it to rust.

The point though, is that I would never just take one person's word for it. If one guy had told me that the Remington 870 Express was a piece of shit now, I wouldn't just sell the gun based on that one person's opinion. I would go and try to find other evidence to back it up.

So when it comes to something like "edumacate," I have seen people use that word in passing many times. If I have somehow missed that word being associated with racism towards black people, I want to know it. I don't want to use it in public if it's something that deeply offends people. But I'm not just going to take the word of one person because that one person could be wrong. They could be overly sensitive. If someone called you an old bowling shoe, and they said it in an insulting way, you'd know that they meant it to be an insult, but is old bowling shoe actually an insult?

Does it matter what the words are if they're said with hate and venom?

I am genuinely sorry that you went through that. I was merely trying to point out that Portland is still so much safer, even back then, than some places. I can't even imagine Compton and Watts during the 80s, or DC, or Chicago, or Baltimore. As bad as things have been here, we are all fortunate to have grown up in Portland and not one of those other places.

There's a difference between stating something as an opinion and stating it as a fact. Dviss was stating it as a fact. If someone says, "this is my opinion," so be it. But if you tell me, "that's how it is. It's basic knowledge. It's 101." I'm going to ask you why. I'm going to ask for something to back that up. I don't see the problem with that.

I've seen racism and I've experienced it. It certainly is a touchy subject and one that merits discussion.

However, that discussion is often times derailed in this OT forum as with many other subjects.

Unfortunately, that's the reality of the OT forum. I personally try not to take anything too seriously in the forum after experiencing a "wake up" call in a previous and different forum.

Just my thoughts on the subject.
