Trade ET Traded

I wonder if maybe you need to try a different font or something. Somehow every (completely reasonable) thing you post today is getting (inexplicably) misconstrued by someone (myself included).

I would use comic sans if I could. It's whimsical so maybe people will think I'm not trying to be negative.

Players come to Portland and get better...Ed Davis, Enes Kanter, Rodney Hood....a long list. Look at post Portland careers of some ex Blazers and the buzz of their career more often than not was as a Blazer.

ET is a class act...great locker room leader...awesome dude! Wish him great success in Atlanta...that team is going to be really good! He'll be a great influence on all their young rookies which I'm sure was a big selling point from our side! I like ET! He just didn't fit here that well. I think he's happy to play in a different system for his skill set.....he hates the 3pt shot

I think all of that is true. I think he loved his teammates, but was really wanting to get into a different offense.

Crabbe and Turner on the Hawks for one more year. There has to be a way we can trade them Meyers so they have a complete set of scrubs.
I'm thinking Meyers will end up traded to another team....Indiana, Dallas, Miami, Lakers...would be my guesses

I'm literally ecstatic right now. I am so freaking happy. Haven't read the whole thread, don't know when Bazemore expires or what he makes but right now i don't care. He's better offensively and we got rid of Turner. I am so happy

It's player for player (expiring contract for another). Works out for both teams.

he makes a little less than a million more than Turner next season I read...pretty much a salary wash

Seems like there has to be another shoe dropping. They have hopefully replaced Hood's production. Now they need a real back-up PG. Last season there were too many times ET was the "best" playmaker on the court. We can do better.

Until Dame and CJ change how they play Bazemore is not going get any more shots as anyone have play beside him. I do like the move but his impact for the team will probably be defense not offensive.

“This trade makes a lot of sense for Portland. Bazemore is a quality wing rotation player who averaged 11.6 points per game, is athletic and can create shots. Last season Bazemore was on his way to a career year until a mid-season ankle injury, and while he did come back to the court he was never healthy and the same player. He’s not a knock-down three-point shooter but he has usually been at around 35 percent or a little higher five of the past six seasons (he was down to 32 percent last season because of the ankle injury). This is more than just Rodney Hoodinsurance, this is an upgrade.

Turner was the guy Portland counted on as another shot creator, but he could not do that consistently or under pressure. He averaged 6.8 points per game last season, shot 21.2 percent from three, and is not a great defender. He is a popular teammate and good in the locker room (something useful with a young Hawks squad), but this is not an upgrade for the Hawks.

Then why did Atlanta make this trade? Good question. The franchise does save $640,000, which is helpful but not earth-shattering. Maybe it’s a favor to Bazemore to get him on a team that went to the Western Conference Finals a season ago and is a threat going forward. However, the best reason may be the Hawks have three young players they like — Kevin Huerter, plus just-drafted DeAndre Hunter and Cam Reddish — at the same spot and this frees up minutes for them to play.”

I don't think this means anything in terms of Hood other than we probably aren't opening up the Full-MLE. So his decision will be the same as it was before this trade which is either take the Tax-MLE for below market value or move on.

This does however allow us to use Harkless as our "dump" contract instead of Leonard if Hood did re-sign. Like it or not, Leonard is probably going to be needed until Nurk is healthy.
Im actually thinking this helps in keeping Hood.

CJ and Dame will pass to any player who can hit an open shot. Hood was a good example. But even if Baze doesn't get that many shots, the fact he needs to be guarded at least spreads the floor.

Turner was garbage that’s obvious but this does mean one less ballhandler. Could mean Simons is going to have the ball in his hands a lot, but we’re probably in the market for another point guard as well.

As for Bazemore, I wonder if he’s Hoods replacement.
Bazemore can handle the ball a bit though.

Bazemore's contract will be available for aggregation as of 8/24. However, I imagine that if Neil plans on using our expiring deals in trade (I'm not holding my breath), it will be near the deadline rather than this summer.
Portland could trade Bazemore by himself before then. Is Baze more attractive around the league than ET was? I'd assume so....

We did get deeper in the Lux Tax which...i dont know how to feel about
Only $600k in salary. Not a big enough difference to make a dent.

True, although it’s ironic that we’re talking about this since ET is the exception.

More moves to come...

Dame/Ant
CJ/Layman/Trent
Baze/Nas
Collins/Hark
ML/Skal

*Nurk

This assuming Curry/Hood/Chief/Kanter all walk

I really don’t want Chief back in a starting role.

Yeah it needs to be closer to this:

Dame/Vet
CJ/Baze/Simons/ Trent
Baze/Hark/Nas
Collins/Skal /Jake
Kanter/ ML/ *Nurk

Baze can get minutes at SG and SF so I would not worry about either unless you can get a star player at SF.
But I would like to see a vet PG to round out the back court.

As for the bigs, Kanter is very much needed. A center until Nurk gets back is priority #1.
