Evan Turner becomes a Blazer

Turner is a replacement for Henderson in our rotation. It's that simple. The money factor seems to be the biggest issue to most. But setting that aside what does Turner bring to the table that Henderson does not and vice versa? I think the one thing that's huge is our 2nd unit had to rely completely on CJ handling the ball almost exclusively. The other thing is we had Henderson a 6'5" SG playing SF and being expected to guard much taller guys. Granted Henderson is a better outside shooter he also averages half the rebounds and assists.

Now THAT'S how to use reason, instead of ridiculing your opponents into conformity. Good post.

Turner is a decent piece in the rotation. The angst is that we "blew our wad" on him. And he didn't solve any of our major needs. How many notches is he above Harkless and Aminu?

The chances are though that we would have blown a similar was on a similar player. The one player people mentioned was Bazemore who from where I am standing is at best a lateral move from Turner and got the same money. We could have blown less wad and gone for a Dellavadova type guy but that wouldn't have moved anyone's needle either.

Dellevedova and al jefferson for similar deals would have made me happier. Both those guys signed for around 10 million per year.

I think people are too focused on the dollar signs. This is something this summer that will be hard to get used to if you are continually looking at contracts from before this year as justification. Factor into that being that it is true the market is very hard to sell players on, which offends the shit out of us Portlanders because we love the city, we have to spend a little extra on guys to sway them to us. Portland had a nice season but nobody sees them as a contender yet, because they aren't.

Just wait till the offers start coming in on Crabbe, Mo and Meyers.

He didn't sign a MAX contract or anything.

Tweet earlier saying 76ers ready to give Crabbe a near max offer sheet? Might change the whole tune of Evan Turner at 16.4 to start being such a disaster.

50 mil isn't that bad, or at least it wasn't before we signed a bench guy to 70 mil.

I think Philly wants to see what happens with Durant to know whether they can get Barnes. If Durant doesnt go to GS, I think they make an offer to Crabbe

Exactly. He is an upgrade over Henderson for our needs because he can run the offense on occasion. He is a better fit with Dame or CJ in the back court. He and Aminu do not play the same position IMO. I like Aminu guarding big SF's and spread 4's.
I would also be pissed if they let Crabbe go. But they won't. We needs his outside shooting.

The Warriors may have not repeated, but they still have a good blue print on how to win. Depth and Flexibility.
You may think Turner is a marginal upgrade based on his stats (for those who actually admit not watching him) but if he makes his teammates better than it will be more than just marginal.

Aminu, Crabbe and Mo all bring something different to the table, but do they make their teammates better? Parsons does and so does Turner. Neil went after both. He thinks (and I agree) that an upgrade at the wing was needed. Next he needs to add some size to the center committee. We are not talking about a super star here, just a third center who can protect the rim. He can find one. Maybe not right now, but this was never about a quick fix.

I really don't think Bazemore is any better than Crabbe... and that dude just got the same deal as Turner.

Unless you're going to use his salary/cap space for a superstar, I think we have to match whatever. He is exactly the kind of player we want going forward - he's young, shows a lot of potential to grow still, and he's part of the team/family. I think he steps up this season and becomes an even better player.

So let's hope for another miracle right? Sounds like Portland....

LOL at all the people trying to convince themselves this was a good move. Stages of grief....acceptance.

So because I pointed out a fact I'm hoping for a miracle? Sounds like you... minimizing facts.
Not trying to convince myself of anything I said previously that the Blazers could do better. But they also could do a lot worse than Turner and he can help the team.
Let me know how that's thinking it's a good or bad move. It's being realistic.
Well unless people thought being realistic was that Durant & LBJ would pair up in Portland for vet minimum....

Dont even try to spin it that way. Manyof us were shit on for not buying into the discussions that whiteside, horford, durant etc would actually give us the time of day. Some posters were so sure these guys would rush at the chance to sign with portland. Which was not the case becauze we couldnt even meet with any of these dudes. Portland still sucks in the eyes of top free agents.

This guy's three ball is down to .241. Does he fit on this team? It has been in pretty much a steady decline the past 6 years. Is he a 70m bencher in the Stotts offense?

Ha! I see Howard signed for 70. Now if you wanted someone that can't shoot the three ball,
perhaps we should have looked there. At least he doesn't shoot them.

Who says he's coming off the bench?

I don't know. I put a question mark on my post. Does anyone else on the team shoot worse than .241 who actually take those shots?

I watched his highlights, man if Wes had his handles he would have been spectacular.

Hey, I'm not mad at the Turner signing like a lot of people here but I like to watch the world burn, so let me remind you of that:

Spun him around !

It's not that the cross overs were that great. Turner was just being aggressive and trying to jump the pick & Blake is crafty enough to use that against him.
