Finding Neil a backup SG/SF

Here's something I never thought I'd say: I'd back a Turner-for-Chandler Parsons swap...
I don't like E.T., but I'd have a hard time doing this. Especially since we'd have to add salary to the deal to make it work.

No way..... Parsons is completely broken. I'd rather have a player that can at least contribute, rather can fuck up our cap space while sitting on the bench.

How 'bout Jared Dudley? He's not as bad defensively as I would've thought, he's a great 3-point shooter, and he's a fucking great interview.

Dudley is actually an excellent good team defender. He always has been. He has an ultra high BBIQ and is a good locker room guy.

Since the day we traded Crabbe and got that $12.9 TPE, I've been all about using it to get a veteran 3 and D player like Dudley (first choice) or Courtney Lee. They'd replace Crabbe's shooting and upgrade our perimeter defense.

At the time of the trade, I would have also been interested in Eric Gordon (assuming HOU would have been willing to trade him instead of Ryan Anderson to land Carmelo Anthony). Not much improvement defensively over Crabbe, but an even more potent scorer and much better passer off the bench. That ship has sailed. So back to Dudley and Lee.

I think Neil hopes Morrow can replace Crabbe's shooting/scoring while allowing us to get under the luxury tax threshold by the end of the season. Unfortunately, his defense is every bit as bad as Crabbe's, and it's yet to be seen if his .280 3FG% in OKC last year was a one time anomaly or the start of a steep downward trend. That's why he has a non-guaranteed contract.

The TPE doesn't expire until 7/25/2018. So, we have plenty of time to use it, but I'd rather use it sooner than later. I don't want to punt on the first half, of the entire season, just to save Paul Allen some money.

I just don't see the Knicks dumping Lee for a TPE. He has value. He's on a relatively good contract. Much like Lee, Dudley doesn't fit Olsheys model that he talked about last week. Too old. Guy like Melo would've been an exception.

I have to hand it to you guys. One preseason game and you’ve completely evaluated the roster.

Pat and Jake are not passing the eye test bro. Please don't act like you're attached to either of them.

Man... there really aren't very many veteran small forwards right now.

Not really. There have been threads for a month or two saying we have too many bigs and not enough wings or shooters.

Oh, I don’t disagree. I just haven’t seen any trades proposed that are going to make NO go, “Damn! Why didn’t I think of that?”

I'm not attached to anybody at the end of the bench. Just saying that 10-15 minutes of run in a preseason game isn't enough to make a valid judgement as to who stays and who goes. Could we use a solid upgrade at the backup shooting guard spot? Absolutely. Are there many decent options available either as FAs or potential trades who are clear upgrades? I haven't heard any realistic ones yet. I like the idea of Jared Dudley, but he's out for an extended period. http://www.rotoworld.com/recent/nba/1402/jared-dudley

Every team in the league has some dreck at the bottom of the roster this time of year. Sorting that out is what the preseason is for.

Hezonja seems like the guy that would make the most sense. Would Orlando risk dealing with Neil again?

It's a different front office, hopefully the owners forgot and it's not like they gave us Lebron.

It's crazy but if you start looking around the league, there's just not many wings.... period.

I'd like to target someone like Jaylen Brown, but that would take a lot more to pry him away from Boston. The thing is, they have Hayward, Tatum, and Brown. They have a real need for bigs, so I'd love to try to convince them to take Ed Davis, Aminu, and Vonleh for Brown, but I don't see that happening.

I was thinking Stanley Johnson. Hopefully Detroit's season goes to pot early and they look for some changes.

I was more thinking Avery Bradley from Detroit. I hope the Pistons crash and burn.

Unfortunately, they play in the East. Most Top 10 NCAA teams could make the playoffs in the East (well, not all of them, obviously).

Bradley would be the PERFECT complement to Dame/CJ. He can play off the ball, good shooter, passable ball handler, and incredible on defense. Star guards on other teams would always have to be either guarding one of Dame or CJ or getting guarded by Bradley.

Just too bad he'd be difficult to get and even more difficult to retain, given our cap situation.

Some combination of Leonard, Connaughton, Vonleh - possibly Davis or Aminu

for Norman Powell from Toronto.

Would bring some much needed defense to the back-court.

I kinda like that idea of Jeremy Lin. Our bench is so fucking stiff and uncreative right now. Maybe he can make them run and help get something out of those guys.
The Nets acquired Russel and 29 yr old Lin shouldn't really be in their future plans, Meyers had some great games against them and they traded Lopez.

Maybe it could work?

Any player who will speed up our transition play would be a godsend.
Despite being so young, our tempo of transition & speed is of a geriatric pace.

Though I beleive the coaching is more to blame here - it's not like our young guys are not capable of it.

That would be sweet but I'm pretty sure they're not looking to trade Powell.

On that mindset, how about a guy that Olshey loves? Eric Bledsoe?
