I just see that argument made all the time, and I dont think people realize how hard the timing is to run a play and get a good shot off at the buzzer. The defense is in all out denial the last couple seconds if the person with the ball isn't a threat. Any pass is a chance for a turnover the other way.

Exactly and even a slight bobble on the pass could be the shot clock running out before the shot is taken. I'm sure teams have calculated all the odds and it has been found that an iso play is the best at the end of a quarter, half or a game.

All out denial mode does mean they’re more apt to make a mistake too. I’d be interested to actually see the math on if that’s the ‘best’ way or just the way it’s always been done.

I don’t know how much data there would be for running a normal-ish offense since no one has ever really done it very consistently.

I'm sure teams do a lot of testing in practices to accumulate data for the best odds though.

I just read back the first page. Yikes. Y'all can't say I haven't improved a ton as a poster in the past two years. I used to get so riled up after losses.

Go back and look at Dame and Roy's game winners.

A lot of them were mid range jumpers and inside shots.

MANY games where we have been down by 1, and Dame/Stotts has opted for the long three heave too though. . .

I think that more on Dame then Stotts. I think he tell Dame it on you and Dame just try to get the best shot he see fits to take.

We all get overzealous at times. The nature of being a Blazer fan.

No, Jones is right. He was crazy but has matured up to my calm state of craziness. When people used to tell him was acting crazy, he would crazily tell them that they were the crazy ones.

So according to the poll it appears that 78% think Stotts should still be the coach while only 22% thinks he should be fired. The people have spoken. :bgrin:

How do you figure? Just because 22% voted he 'Needs to go!'?

I bet there's a bunch like me who voted Stotts as a 'Top 20' coach....or completely mediocre. He's not completely terrible, but we could definitely get an upgrade. We have a few higher priority issues (GM) to take care of first though.

If you wanted Stotts fired then you should have voted that way.

well that doesn't appear to be the case here, lol. Impossible to read peoples minds and the option was there to fire Stotts now and only 22% chose that.
You're saying that since only 22% want him fired, the other 78% think Stotts should still be the coach. I'm saying that rather than all of those people thinking Stotts should still be the coach, there's a middle ground who don't specifically want him fired, but wouldn't have a problem with him being fired.

"wouldn't have a problem"? what exactly does that mean as it appears to be very open to interpretation doesn't it? That's like saying "I really don't care one way or the other" doesn't it? In other words undecided. Maybe that should have been put in the poll rather than some of the other categories. As the poll stands, 22% voted for him to be let go.

How long ago was this....?

And why do you assume i didn't know that?

Can't a guy have a little fun?
If intentionally pretending to be obtuse is your idea of fun, more power to you. But it makes attempting to have a conversation frustrating for the rest of us.

So the subject at hand, I think Stotts is an ok coach, the biggest positive I see is that he has a lot of continuity with Dame and CJ. He did get the team to play better defense last year.

If we made a new poll for this I would probably say to fire him, but giving him another year seems like it’s probably the right thing to do.

A bit of an over reaction here.if my couple posts are that frustrating for some then maybe they need to find a much more tranquil forum to participate in. I was n't the one that brought this thread life and my original post about the percentages was meant mostly tongue in cheek, but i stand by my numbers as in that poll you can't project how many if any would vote no on Stotts. There was only one category for that. :smiley-smiley-049:

Just an observation. I like to have conversations. It's tough to have conversations with people who...aren't.

So do i and i feel you calling me obtuse with my posts was unwarranted and unnecessary unless your intent was to be confrontational. I know my posts were not intended to be "obtuse".

So cup, how do you feel about Stotts right now? If you were the gm or owner how would you view Stotts and the coaching staff?

I have said it several times that I feel Stotts deserves another year and then re-evaluated at the end of the year and then a decision can be made to either continue or go in a different direction.

Sorry for making you repeat yourself.
Anyways, yeah that kind of seems fair to me.
I kind of feel like Stotts has proven to be a good regular season coach the last few years, but the playoffs have looked not so good. I realize a couple of those years they ran into a brick wall in GS. The pelicans though...

I feel like changing coaches is an easier route to go then trying to make roster moves and could provide a shake up for them. Especially in a summer where they really didn’t do anything.

While they could do better, they could always do worse too.
