I'll take it a step further:

I'd bet money that making the finals isn't even top 5 on Jody and Bert's priorities when evaluating the GM or Coach.

What would be the top 5?

And when can we expect better management?

Obviously I'm totally guessing, but here's my shot:

1) Financially responsible (GM only)
2) Represent the community well
3) Consistently competitive
4) Respected by peers and subordinates
5) Positive trajectory

I think they probably check the box for the first 4, but not the 5th.

I don't see Jody or Bert as fans, but business owners and management.

We need another passionate owner and hopefully they are local. Right now I think we are simply part of Vulcans business plan and the franchise is viewed by them as junior training ground for Vulcan recruits. lol

If that's the list, it's no wonder we won't win a title.

I get what you're saying and I would love to have PA back or someone like Cuban in charge. It's also hard for me to expect a business owner to think like a fan, which is what most want.

This is what to quoted-
"Some 5-6 posters on every thread saying the exact same things.
It's really getting ridiculous. Pretty much read the first 4-5 words of a comment.... NEXT! lather rinse repeat."

This was my comment-

I have not edited my comment. You left off "Need to pretty much just merge every thread into this one around here."

you're seeing a distinction I don't see

The only owner that I can remember who consistently thought like a business was Donald Sterling. And his teams was beyond terrible. Most owners don't think like that. They want to win. They put talent around their stars. They try to win championships. If that's not the prime directive of this organization, people need to be fired and the team needs to be sold.

That sucks. Sounds like a waste of time for fans. Let's get management who cares about winning.

I really don’t blame Olshey for the trajectory part. The blame there goes to this guy:

The short story is that Dame kept the Blazers from getting into lottery territory after Aldridge left. Olshey hasn’t had a top pick to work with since drafting Dame. As a small market, it’s absolutely essential to get two really good players through the draft to build around, and one of them has to be a big. Look at Phoenix, Denver and Utah. All three were able to draft talent at the PG spot and center. Having those core pieces on rookie deals let’s a GM fill in around them with other solid pieces and then have room to grab a vet like Conley or Paul. Olshey did his best to solve that issue by trading for Nurk and moving up to draft Collins with a 10th pick. Neither one has been able to stay healthy enough to really deliver for the team yet.

So yeah, it’s all Dame’s fault.

I can't think of an owner who hasn't ran their team like a business, including PA. Maybe we just define it differently.

Also, it's pretty difficult to fire the owner unless they do something out of line. Wanting to turn a profit while making the playoffs every year, wouldn't meet that criteria.

I would agree that if you're going to choose a team to root for based on the resources it has to win a championship, Portland should not be on your top 10 list. I would suggest finding a larger market, maybe one with lower income taxes, greater diversity, etc.

Eh, there was two different iterations of Paul.

There was the SPAM Paul who spent money like it grew on trees.

And then there was the Paul from the mid 2000s who tightened the purse strings a bit because the team sucked.

But overall, he spent money like it didn't matter because he wanted to win. He lost millions upon millions while chasing championships. We regularly had one of the highest payrolls in the league.

True. The penalties for going over the tax and how it reduces your ability to compete in the future has significantly changed as well.

Ah thought it was in relation to Stevens and was confused.

This is about how Brad Stevens is Terry Stotts but with multiple All-Stars in the East over seven years instead of just one like Stotts has.

Stevens will likely be fired after this year. Stotts May too, but with a better record in a more difficult conference.

I'm only guessing but it wouldn't surprise me if PA put some stipulations in his will on how Jody can run the team. The Blazers were his billionaire first love. He wouldn't want to see the team run like Sterling ran the Clippers. And Jody hasn't put the brakes on spending. Something is up and I think that something is what she can and can't do with the team.

Does Vulcan actually own the team and Jody works for them? I have no clue as do none of us but I think Jody still being the owner is a good sign for the future of the Blazers in Portland. Seattle will get an expansion team soon IMO.

Yeah, Stevens may be in trouble but who knows.

Why do you care so much that we are the worst defensive team in the league? Why does it bother you so much?

Seems unhealthy to me and the guy spends his entire day here letting a basketball team impact him and likely his personal life.

I'm gonna be honest with you. We don't see eye to eye. I don't feel like I get much out of what you post. You clearly don't agree with or enjoy what I post. I'm going to put you on ignore so I don't have to get annoyed with your posts. I would recommend you do the same. I have been putting people who seem to hate me and my posts on ignore and life has been much better around here for me. I recommend it to anyone that has such a strong dislike for other posters.

Meltdown

So 100 of the 147 people that participated in the thread poll don't think Terry is a suck a.. coach?
On this BLAZER site those are the kind of numbers Jodi & Bert are looking at.

The thread is 4.5 years old. I don't think you can look at the poll at this point.
