Hopefully he never has a chance to eclipse Dr. Jack. I couldn't stand 4 more years of him.

it might not bother you as much as you think because if Olshey is still GM you'll have 4 more years of CJ dribbling and Turnaround Turner and Meyer flexing his jaws and Olshey talking about organic growth and how much "we like our guys" and how we're waiting for a needle mover of a trade so hey, just be patient

Meh, they'll both bother me a lot. Olshey is more triggering, Stotts is more consistently dumbfounding. Neither is good.

I went into this season knowing (and hating) that Terry would be safe until the team was sold. Maybe it's just my unbridled optimism, but I'm starting to feel like there's a small possibility he could lose his job mid-season. My brain tells me there's no way it happens. But my heart has the pitter patter of hope.

I just don’t think it’s fair to fire stotts and not Olshey. They’re both responsible. If anything Olshey should go first just for doing the absolute minimum, and that’s almost literal, to improve the roster.

I want both gone. But I want Stotts gone more, and as quickly as possible.
And I think it's more likely that Neil fires Terry mid-season, than Jody fires Neil mid-season. I want Stotts gone NOW, and Neil gone immediately after our season finale.

One big problem with firing either Stotts or Olshey right now - who would take the job? Nobody we would want long term is going to be interested until the ownership situation is sorted out.

You also have to consider that replacing Stotts with an interim coach has only short term consequences. Replacing Olshey could (should!) result in roster changes that could impact the team for years. If they pick the wrong guy to replace Stotts - whoop-dee-do. The season is already a dumpster fire. If you can't replace Olshey with somebody clearly better, if they are just going to sit around afraid to do anything meaningful, you might as well just hand Olshey the suntan lotion and tell him to enjoy Barbados.

If this fan base was in charge of the Blazers front office, nobody would ever get hired and nobody would ever get fired.

I would prefer to see what some of these players can do playing under someone other than Stotts (or just playing AT ALL) before we start making major trades.

We need to change the Coach, GM, and Roster. I think we can all (mostly) agree on that. But given the failure of the coach we really don't know just how faulty the roster is. It'd be a damn shame to (yet again) trade a player who could actually perform some of the duties that aren't currently being done. An interim coach is fine with me, as long as they shed some light on what sort of players/skills we have on this roster.

I would have hired D69 as GM or at the least, Head of Scouting. That guy has been a witch over the years and he is just a fan doing a lot of homework.

Agreed. At the end of the day, it's really not too difficult. It just takes someone who has the skillset (which is harder said than done).

Terry has now coached 530 games. Only Ramsay (820) and Nate (535) have coached more games for the Blazers. Terry is 5th in win %.

This kind of stability is unheard of in coaching ranks. Really surprised Terry has gotten this much leeway.

This is what I would advocate for as well — an interim coach until the ownership situation is sorted out. And the team doesn’t need to look far as I think the obvious choice is someone on the bench already — David Vanterpool. Dame appears to get along with him quite well and, as the unquestioned leader of the team, that will go a long way to ensuring a smooth transition from Coach Howdy Doody.

As long as we are winning and getting in the playoffs I don't see Stotts getting fire anytime soon. I am not saying I actually like Stotts as a coach. But he kind like this team he isn't consistent as a coach as is this team. But lately the offensive is looking little different and the defense is more aggressive that I like. But I truly believe the reason that Nurk more in the offensive it not Stotts but Dame is calling more of the offensive then Stotts is.

I thought I saw Stotts angry at Nurk about something during a timeout before it cut to commercial. What the hell could he possibly be pissy with Nurk about? Was 5x5 not good enough or something?

The game plan start with the coach. I would venture a very strong speculation that Stotts and Lillard go over the game plan before every game. To suggest that it is all Dame has little basis to go on and i bet Lillard would attest to that.

I still like Stotts….I think we're lucky to have him and hope he sticks here. Olshey I'm not so sure about.

He has coached more games for the Blazers than Rick Adelman. Does anyone need more proof that current franchise priorities are F'ed up?

current franchise priorities I'd guess are the team is up for sale...selling a franchise with a stable front office is a plus in the market.

Which is odd, given that the new owner will probably want to hire their own coach and GM as soon as the deal is done. Not that that means you are wrong!

I think you're confusing stability and inertia
I really don't...revolving doors for coaches and gms is a Laker/Knick thing....we're more along the lines of San Antonio...and I like it...I haven't forgotten the Caleb Canales season or the Larry Mitchell Chad Buchannon front office....we kept the same core for half a decade on the roster without a championship...blew it up and made the playoffs 5 times in a row...I don't get the despair myself..things have been so much worse than they are now.

90 more games in fact. Dunleavy only got 296.

Terry is currently fourth in the NBA among longest tenured active coaches behind only Pop (23 yrs), Spoelstra (11 yrs), and Carlisle (11 yrs).

As good as Nurk is, he does some goofy stuff sometimes. And, I believe he takes criticism better than some other guys, so Stotts isn't shy about criticizing him.

Not shooting enough threes.

Fuck him and his 3 point obsession.

All 3 of those coaches I'd rather have over Stotts.

when beat reporters ask questions about praising Nurk...Stotts is pretty clear that he's been great for 5 games and they've worked on his left hand finishing in the paint...Nurk is doing amazing work but praise should probably be given to the coaching staff that's rounding out his game...making him more patient, etc
