Nobody is blaming just the coach dude.
.
There are people who only blame Stotts... you are not one of them though.

I was there, in person, when PJ got choked by Spree because he wasn’t practicing well and throwing the ball all over the fucking gym. That’s an extreme example but that’s what these coaches deal with. Almost any other coach would have let him have a bad practice. Or a day off. PJ wasn’t wired like that. And got choked the fuck out.
okCarlesimo was a motormouth jerk hated by many of his players like Rod Strickland, screaming elementary fundamentals that are more relativistic among experienced players. I watched the narcissist in interviews, unable to shut up. Sprewell was the one who wouldn't take it.
Then sir, that is where we differ. @THE HCP could give a fuck about where we "rank" anywhere in any category. I'll take dead last in defense and being .571% in the west than a top 10 defensive team and .455% in the east.I actually really like Borrego from Charlotte. He has their team close to top 10 on defense without any stoppers per se.
Once again, I'm pushing back on people simply putting all the blame on Stotts is all.but you're not making neutral posts. Neutral doesn't incessantly push back against negative, which is what you've been doing
I think I'm a lot more neutral on Stotts than you are. I think he's had 9 seasons of flawed rosters, and I spent several of those seasons, fairly ambivalent about retaining Stotts...or firing him. Mainly because I think Olshey should be the first firing. But I'm convinced the Blazers need major changes; and that the players, especially Dame, need to be taken out of the comfort zones they've developed under Stotts because those comfort zone have created bad habits and low accountability
we're quibbling about the trivial here, but I disagree. Again, HCP has been all over this forum pushing hard, in thread after thread, against people criticizing Stotts. That's not neutral. Neutral wouldn't care about a majority position. How often have you seen me post in this thread?
neutral wouldn't care if Stotts was fired
The only think I wouldn't like about Stotts getting fired is a friend of my is out of a job. I was close with Monty Williams and Canales, Billy Bano and more, but I would understand it's a business.but you're not making neutral posts. And for fucks sake...... it's @THE HCP not HCP!
We could all know this by now.

Meltdown coming in 3...2...1If I take out some of the words, the tweet reads:
Portland, parted ways, head, NBA coach, Terry.
I'd prefer he washed them in a washing machineCould Terry Porter wash the towels or something in the locker room?

Stotts said it himself: He ran more plays and the sets he ran were more movement based instead of depending solely on pick n roll. There was a lot of possessions with really good movement, and some where they attacked a mismatch in the post. He had "poor defenders" executing simple defensive concepts. Even when we had to scramble, we did a much better job of it.Passes Made: Tonight (255) Sesason Avg. (250)
Potential Assists: Tonight (39) Season (42.3)
Seconds Per Touch: Tonight (3.55) Season (3.48)
Touches were obviously spread more evenly and it was nice to see Gary and Rodney get more opportunities run more pnr and use the off ball actions we see every night to score rather than as misdirection / movement to set up Dame ball screens...but watching this game our offensive success still had more to do with a good night shooting (26/56 on contested shots) with their lack of size on the wing and conservative scheme with Embiid laying back than anything we did differently stylistically or scheme wise. The offensive rebounding was a huge help as well.
Defensively, I thought the energy and focus was definitely more consistent than we've seen, but their lack of perimeter / pnr threats (just overall speed on the ball) and playing through Embiid allowed us to use our size and limited the scramble situations that we've had such a hard time dealing with this year.
TLDR - So maybe Stotts still sucks or is just ok depending on your view of things?

Thing is, Philly missed a lot of threes because we contested them much better than usual. We also did a better job of running them off of the 3pt line. Pretty simple. This is a great use of data and I'm not surprised the numbers were similar.
Had Philly made their open 3's, we shot 25% from behind the line, and we lost; we'd be talking about the same "issues" some people have with the offense. We hit our 3's, Philly did not, and we were fantastic on offensive rebounds. It was fun!

Nothing about this is results-based, it's process based. Stop trying to apply hypothetical results to what people "would" say.
Dame is playing tomorrow let's see if we see the same movement. Not knocking Dame but it seems he going to play one way and will Stotts hold him if there know movement accountable.Stotts said it himself: He ran more plays and the sets he ran were more movement based instead of depending solely on pick n roll. The whole point is that he's not incapable due to injuries, that this roster isnt incapable of having good defensive games, and that altering the offensive gameplan towards movement is for the better.
No offense to Lamar but I think that job might be a good one for him or an in studio analyst. Can't the Blazers find a job for him? Hersey Hawkins was a great shooter and has shagged balls in our practices for years. Could Terry Porter wash the towels or something in the locker room?

NBA's hustle stats had 85.2% (23/27) as contested vs 64.2% on the season. Watched the attempts back too and Elleby definitely stood out. His closes were great. You could be right... What are the numbers on % of contested attempts given up last night compared to our average?
