raptors fans discussing trading pascal for an Ant package. This may be homer of me, but I’m kind of unwilling to give up Sharpe in any deal like this:
I've been wondering if Toronto might be thinking about trading Siakam, as they are playing under .500 so far. I don't think they will take any deal unless it includes Sharpe. Tough decision.

Imo you only deal sharpe in a package if you’re getting back a superstar who puts you in immediate title contention. So for KD yes, Pascal I don’t think so. Are we front running title contenders with Pascal? I’m not sure.

Front-running? No. But title contending? Honestly, it would all depend on how well Grand and Siakam mesh in the forward spots.

And of course, health.

Our starting 5 is really good already. At the minimum, it would be great to get some offensive punch off the bench.

I'm in for Jordan Clarkson coming off our bench.

Yes we would cough up Simons, no we would not include Sharpe, so no, the Raptors wouldn't do it. (They'd counter with a FVV for Ant trade and we'd put the phone down in a hurry.)

In general, I imagine there's kind of bad blood between TOR and PDX since the past trade...

Tinkered around and got this:

Portland reported to be one of three teams interested in Nerlens Noel. Possible three way with GS, where they get Payton, not sure what they send to Detroit? Can't really make it work unless GS sends out Wiseman and don't think they are that down on him. Payton would be a negative for Detroit (with that contract and his age) so we would need to attach a FRP I think.

I don't think there's anyway we trade Payton II in a deal this season. And I don't think there's anyway Noel is worth a first.

Noel makes ~4.3 mil. We can theoretically add him without sending any salary out if Jody is willing to pay the tax. I would explore these options first.

That kind of target is also interesting. Low salary defensive center who can switch on pick and rolls. I've long been saying our first target should be insurance for Nurk. Eubanks is almost Kanter-esque on defense. He's not serviceable in the playoffs.

ESPN shows Noel at over $9 million. And I was under the impression that we can not take any salary back without sending out just as much or more? Noel would be kind of iffy because he has been injured a lot lately but he was a really good player two years ago. I guess Portland would have to be really sure he is 100% recovered and hasn't lost athleticism.

shoot! You are right!

I stand corrected. Was looking at his previous contract.

He is at 9.2 this year. We'd have to send out close to equivalent $ to make it happen. I don't wanna trade Nas or Keon for Noel, but they would probably have to be involved (in addition to Drew/Justise)

1.8 ppg nerlens noel??

Has no real business being in the league nerlens noel??

If they trade Payton for Nerlens, they sure as fuck better get back picks or something, because that would be highway robbery. And that's KNOWING that Payton hasn't played a minute here (and also that I'm 100% convinced he's sitting out due to them trying to find a trade for him).

Nerlens is horrible. I wouldn't trade John Butler for him.

I don't think we would trade three players for him so i don't think they are considering this trade unless they have soured on Payton.

If he is that worthless, then you are thinking it's a false rumor? It's from the Athletic.
League sources, who were granted anonymity so that they could speak freely, have told The Athletic that the Pistons are looking to move the veteran big man. Both sides have agreed that a deal is best for both parties, and Detroit has already had talks with rival teams about Noel. Portland, Sacramento, Miami and Dallas have been the teams most engaged when it comes to acquiring the 28-year-old.

Two years ago he averaged almost 10 rebounds and over 3 blocks per 36 while shooting over .600. If he is still that guy, I would be interested.

.
Ha. I have been wondering about that also. How many months does conditioning to return take?

Technically Portland can add ~$5.5M more to their payroll to be under the HARD-Cap. They are restricted from going over that line (~$156M in total salary) for any reason.

Currently Portland sits ~$70k below the LUX-Tax line (~$150.5M). Adding ANY salary (even a 10-day contract) would push Portland into the tax. The big issue isn't necessarily paying the tax. By going over the LUX-Tax line, Portland would miss out on the distribution from all the other teams that are over the Lux-Tax line. It looks like that payment will be somewhere between ~$12M-$14M.

From a practical standpoint, adding anyone would have to be worth >$12M to do so.

I guess the primary question is how would people feel about:

Simons + Payton + future 1st for Siakam?

I wouldn't include Sharpe. I think a Dame-Hart-Grant-Siakam-Nurkic lineup is very intriguing. But it would be weak in three point efficiency

Yeah, as if agents or gms don't plant things.

The guy is averaging 2 ppg, and it's not like he ever been anything to get excited about. This is just the work of either his agent or the gm on his team trying to create interest

yes, nyk essentially paid Detroit to take Noel and kemba off their hands. Noel is not a positive value contract at 9.2m, so we should not expect Cronin or anyone else to offer something of value unless he’s truly an idiot.

This seems like a fairly random suggestion... Has there been any creditable discussion regarding a Simons/Siakam trade?

Why would that become the 'primary' question?

Simons for Siakam is certainly being discussed around here and has been for a while. Obviously the Blazers would have to add more, so I added more sans Sharpe. If you don't agree with the word 'primary' in my post, imagine the post without that word....it's easy if you try, above us only sky

The 2023 remix of the CJ/PSkills trade now includes Toronto giving up FVV for a pile of crap, nice

Hey, keep FVV and enjoy that 35% shooting and sub-500 record... I honestly don't think anybody is jumping to take that contract, so I guess you have to hope his now-full-year of shitty shooting is just a blip.

Not that I'm advocating trading for Noel - I would hate to see less of Drewbanks - but this is from November of '21 when Noel was on the Knicks:

Based on a grand total of 85-minutes played.

I'd much rather look at his career numbers. In doing so, he's a decent player trending in the wrong direction very rapidly.

Are you talking about his Detroit numbers? That's like judging Al Horford on his OKC stats.

Only vet big that’s rumored to be on the block (and on a rebuilding team) that would make sense is Poeltl.

Also: Eubanks > Nerlens
