If the current trade buzz is accurate, the general market for young frontcourt players is robust, with league executives saying both the Indiana Pacers' Myles Turner and the Atlanta Hawks' John Collins, big men with the ability to switch between power forward and center, are on the trading block.

That article also makes it sound like Harrell might be available with the clippers looking for a legit center. We can’t take Harkless so maybe a three team trade with Sacramento.

LOL at Minny wanting two 1st's for Covington

Zeller and Marvin Williams for Whiteside and Hezonja.

How does that make the Blazer better next season? We have to pay Zeller $15 million. Couldn't we re-sign Whiteside for $15 million? Marvin Williams would be a free agent.

First, it gets Hezonja off the team this year, so that's a win.
Second, Zeller is a lot more likely to be accepting of a backup role next year than Whiteside is.
Third, yes Marvin is a free agent, but we'd have his bird rights, and could conceivably re-sign him to a reasonable deal (more likely than re-signing Whiteside) without impacting our MLE.
Fourth, Zeller would be a potentially valuable expiring deal come next year's trade deadline.

And 5th Zeller would be tradeable this summer, Whiteside re-signing wouldn't be eligible to be traded until December 15th and would have a no trade clause on a one year deal.

We could probably get Derrick rose with our first. Imagine having him off the bench next year when we're full strength.

With our current turn around, if the Blazers are able to acquire Rose, we become a championship level team in all honesty. With him, Nurk, Little and Trent coming off the bench that would be magnificent.

Well, I found my new dream trade...

LAC Gets: Hassan Whiteside, Langston Galloway (Harris TPE)
DET Gets: Maurice Harkless, Rodney McGruder
POR Gets: Tony Snell, Ivica Zubac (Bazemore TPE), 2020 LAC 1st, $15.7M TPE

OR

LAC Gets: Hassan Whiteside, DeMarre Carroll (Harris TPE), Skal Labissiere (Harris TPE)
SAS Gets: Maurice Harkless, Mario Hezonja
POR Gets: Rodney McGruder, Ivica Zubac (Bazemore TPE), $27.1M TPE

I love that 2nd one for every team involved.

CLIPPERS swap Zubac, Harkless, & McGruder for Whiteside, Caroll, and Labissiere
- They take on a lot of money but get the legit starting C upgrade their looking for who'd likely resign on a cheaper deal since he's starting. They also don't have to give up any picks or prospects.
SPURS swap Carroll for Harkless and Hezonja
- This would be a money saving move. The Spurs owe Carroll $7M next year, and by trading him for expirings would get out from that.
BLAZERS swap Whiteside, Labissiere, and Hezonja for Zubac, McGruder, and a $27.1M TPE
- First off, HOLY TPE. That would allow Portland to do a multitude of moves this summer and next year.
- Second, Portland saves $19.8M with this move. Jody's happy.
- Third, Portland gets a C who has been solid this year, is young, and is on a serviceable contract to be Nurks backup. He could be useful in a trade this summer (say, to SAC in a S&T for Bogdanovic?)
- Fourth, McGruder is essentially a $5M expiring next year (the year after is unguaranteed), so he'd help match salary if we already used or didn't want to use our TPE.

I like Bones ideas of three ways with Whiteside going to LAC. Just read they are worried about Zubac not being playoff center.

Here's another idea.

LAC gets "Whiteside and Hezonja. OKC gets Harrel and Harkless and probably a draft pick from us? Portland gets Schroder and Zubac.

One other idea, pretty much same as above except include New Orleans instead of OKC and this time it's Jrue Holiday goes to us. I think Anf or Trent would have to go out in maybe both these trades.

I will tell you some things guys:

1. Whiteside is not getting traded, like it or not, but he will be here and maybe next Season too.

2. At some point this Season, we gonna see a Dame-CJ-Ariza-Nurk-Whiteside line-up.

I can't believe I'm the one saying this, but I don't think you can trade Hassan with the way he's been playing the last few games. His stats actually match his impact and his lazy stretches aren't as prominent of late. We will never get fair value for trading him.

I think we need to put our tpe and pick into play to get another impact player and get Dame some help.

Tpe plus pick for bertans sorta thing

I’m all for re-signing Whiteside if possible, I think he genuinely likes it here, but I’m not sure he will be down for a backup role long term, we HAVE to get something for him, especially when his value is at its highest.

I have serious mixed emotions over Whiteside.

On the one hand, I think some Portland fans are underestimating his contribution. OTOH, the last time he was in a contract season he played well enough to get a monster deal - then left everyone in Miami seriously disappointed!

I don’t think he’s getting a monster deal at his age. Biggest possible contract I can see him obtaining is 3/54.

There's not a ton of teams with cap space greater than the MLE. Unless he's a S&T, I don't know if those teams with space would really be bidding 18 a year on Whiteside. With the MLE at around 10 a year, I don't see him getting much over that

This is a key that not many are paying attention to. There's like 6-7 teams that will have cap space. Of those, few will be in the market for a center.

I'm guessing Atlanta will take a strong run at Drummond. If they dont get him, they may fall back to Whiteside. Outside of that scenario, I'm not seeing a lot of competition for Whiteside's service

No way LAC trades both bigs for Whiteside, and Harrell isn't getting moved IMO.

I’d pay whiteside 10m to stay. He’s worth that even as a backup. Portland puts a lot on their centers shoulders.

How many teams have a tall SG, and how much of it is really attributed to their size vs CJs? The size thing is overstated.

That what she said. I just cringe all the times I see CJ guard:

Doncic
Harden
Butler
DeRozen
Booker
Simmons
LeVine
Brogdon
Dinwiddie
Gilgeous-Alexander
Fournier
Burks
Barton
Etc.

All who are taller than CJ and easily score over him.

Add kris Dunn to the list of playaz I’d want.

Except being taller doesn't mean you can easily score on someone.

I won't insult you by asking if you watch games, but I am tempted.

I wonder if Boogie could be a FA target for us next year. He'd probably be available for peanuts and he wouldn't cry about a backup role given his situation.

Think I'd take him for the minimum over whatever Whiteside would warrant in FA.
