Now it's being reported that 3 other sheriff deputies didn't enter the building.

The first four officers on the scene didn't enter the building to confront the shooter or to check on children who had already been shot.

Very sad.
Wow you’re sounding like trump now. “Very sad”, you white supremacist fascist and racist man you are. I can’t believe you

Maybe since teachers are all ex-military and win shooting contests and whatever, we should have the police teach, and the teachers police.

Thanks, I was having a lot of trouble figuring out that graph w/o context. Probably because of my reading level when I was in 3rd grade.

Sly would be a great teacher....the key is that teachers really don't need to fill your head with useless info...they just need to teach you how to learn. Then you can do that yourself!

whats the difference between an AR 15 or an M4 or M16. they function the same, and do the same, and have the same purpose. they are for killing. not deer, but people. and you can buy an AR15 at Walmart. and that's insane. thinking the 2nd amendment is set in stone and not to be amended is stupid.

there is a way to begin a stricter gun law without taking away people's right to have guns. the idea that people refer to the need to protect from some govt civil war is absurd. you aint winning. civilians with assault rifles aren't going to beat back the US govt. you don't need these guns, you want them. and I want lots of things but don't get them. find another toy to play with.

Coral Springs Police Officer Who Ran Toward Gunfire Shares Story

Coral Springs (Fla.) police sergeant Jeff Heinrich spoke at a press conference Friday about his experience witnessing the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school last week.

Heinrich describes how he got a student who had a “massive gunshot wound” on his ankle out of harm’s way.

He also describes how he encountered another law enforcement officer, received a SWAT vest and gun from him, and then cleared the area towards the school.

This heartbreaking video comes on the same day that it was discovered that four Broward County deputies did not enter the school while the shooting was going on.

gym class would be a problem
I don’t seem to remember our PE teacher playing sports with us
Posting here is one thing but I am going to write to my state representatives after I attend a local meeting at the school here soon to discuss the issue. I feel it's important to voice my concerns and hopefully more people will actually take what actions they can to add to the process. I belong to a neighborhood watch group where I live but now it's getting to be a national watch sadly
be sure to offer ankle stomp training.

my experience is reality....your blanket insult to teachers across the board was not.....there are a lot of reasons for your poll that are not on a teacher's shoulders....parenting..lack of parenting...urban strife in inner cities....yeah...you found a poll.....maybe the invention of the IPhone and video games had some affect on the attention span of the youth of America? Maybe dad is too busy watching the game or mom is working 3 jobs to pay rent...yeah..it's the teachers fault....and why recognize success? Doesn't prop up your argument that teachers aren't good enough for you?

Your "reality" doesn't square with those of the majority of people. I didn't produce a poll.

Teachers should fail students who can't read. Until they can read. If that's a pain in the ass for teachers, maybe it'll motivate them to assure the kids can read.

There isn't anything more fundamental in teaching than having your students able to read when you're done with them.

My "broad" statement stands and is well founded.

what the fuck does this mean? stick your head in the fucking sand and insult someone else's profession.....you don't even know me...great teachers, lawyers, soldiers, businessmen, carpenters, on and on are rarely the majority in their field....you say there are none....fuck that and go back to your cable tv

what a stupid take on the teaching profession.....ever read a book to your kids? probably just parked them in front of your tv......get a grip..where I live kids don't graduate high school without being literate...maybe you should move from your school district...apparently it's a day care..not a school

Denny has great respect for teachers and I'm positive he meant no insult towards you or your profession.

you never do..you just find them and paste them...

There's a difference between a poll and a study.

I guess they didn't teach that in your public school.

You kind of prove my point, as understanding the difference in (those) words is what reading proficiency is about.

In case you don't grok it, the first graph showed that many kids are being graduated who cannot read.

I've addressed this inner city dilemma you apparently grew up around....which is why I wouldn't send my child to public school in Hilo...I explained why...if you want to diss my results as a teacher...you're just looking to piss me off....there are a lot of reasons kids don't read....teachers teach children to learn and give them the tools.....some take the ball and go for it...others find drugs, street gangs...all kinds of reasons to not check out a book and read it....most likely their parents aren't reading much either.....but take it out on teachers....and fuck respecting me and my profession....bet they can all shoot a gun eh? No child graduates high school where I live as an illiterate graduate...zero....some drop out and dumb themselves down..sure. Lead a horse to water.....now tell me I don't understand words and I'll tell you you don't understand the teaching profession....

Which first graph do you mean?

When kids graduate high school reading at a 3rd grade level, the "great" teachers deserve disrespect.

Your experience is everyone's!

I'm getting the sense that you think that graph shows that some high school graduates read at a 3rd grade level. That is most definitely NOT what the graph shows.

What the graph actually shows is that kids who read well in 3rd grade are more likely to eventually graduate from high school than the kids who don't read as well in 3rd grade.

They don't read well because all teachers suck, are too wimpy to carry guns and Hillary Clinton killed some people.
