Edit: this was meant as a response to wizard mentor, I must have hit the wrong thing.
The NBA is a business, and their employees are there only real assets. The assets have figured it out and have learned to exercise their power. I find it annoying the decisions some of them make, but I believe they can and should have the ability to make those decisions.
They don’t owe fans anything, they don’t owe owners anything, it’s what they do for a living.
Now should the league owners try to figure out ways to create more parody in the “who’s a contender” year and in and out, I’d like that, but it shouldn’t infringe upon players being able to make personal choices.

I like Covington for the TPE/1st

If they get Kawhi/Lebron they don’t need him but would need to shed his salary

im happy to see willy b get the big payday. he's played out of his skin since leaving the blazers.

arron afflalo worked out great for us, classic blazer move.

willy b on the trade that saved his NBA life

Mason Plumlee: Not knowing how it’s gone in Denver now, when you got traded from Portland, were you excited about it? Or what was your feeling towards that?

Will Barton: I wanted to be traded ... for an opportunity … When I actually got traded, I was excited because I knew I was going to a young team, they weren’t winning yet, and I was still young and I knew I would get an opportunity to play. I didn’t know it would go this well, but I knew ... [if] I worked hard I would be prepared and I would do okay. And now it’s going better than planned, and now we’re winning.

Richard Jefferson: Shoot you said it, you were like ‘Man, had I not been traded, I probably would’ve been out the league.’

Barton: Oh yeah, that’s the truth ... that trade saved my life. I’m in Portland, I’m not playing, three years, no minutes, you know I’m going to be a free-agent … could’ve easily been in the G-League or a country where I don’t speak the language.

Layman had to be renounced before today. So he's guaranteed for next year.

Not necessarily true. They could’ve moved the date back. We wouldn’t know about it because we don’t have local reporters

The former second-round pick will return for a third year with the Blazers.

Jake Layman's contract with the Trail Blazers for the 2018-19 season is now guaranteed. Portland took no action on June 30th, meaning that the third year forward from Maryland will stay in the Rose City.

According to Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders, Layman’s contract for the upcoming season would automatically convert from non-guaranteed to guaranteed on June 30. On Sunday, NBC Sports Northwest’s Jason Quick stated on social media that the Blazers did not waive him prior to the deadline.

The Blazers are now obligated to pay Layman’s approximately $1.54 million salary, even if they cut him. It was their last decision before free agency opened Saturday night, which saw the Blazers lose Ed Davis and sign Nik Stauskas to a one-year, minimum contract.

Layman was drafted No. 47 by the Orlando Magic but Portland acquired him on NBA Draft night for a 2019 second-round pick and cash. He has played 70 total games in two seasons with Portland and averaged 1.6 points, 0.6 rebounds, and 0.3 assists per game.

That’s not news.

So... we lost our only backup PG, and a contributing rotation player, along with the "heart and soul of the team," but on the plus side added Nik Stauskas and kept Jake "totally useless" Layman?

Starting to Have Doubts....
