OT Free Agency Round The League (2 Viewers)

Going into a season with any of those strategies is fucking stupid for a GM because we're one injury away from Leonard or Swanigan being our only options.
Used to be talking about injuries to bigs in Portland was ban material! Nobody should mention injuries dude.....! We have 7 bigs…..Draymond Green starts at center often and is 6'8......Mo, Jake and Chief are all as tall as Swanigan and Green...if there are issues...we play small ball...Golden State does it all the time. If it's serious....you sign a 10 day big...Leonard and Swanigan are our options....cheer for them both...as it is we have 3... 7 footers....for years we didn't....stupid would have been keeping Pappa G and dropping Baldwin

So if Nurk gets hurt it's okay because Layman and Harkless are 6'8"? lol

They could've improved the situation while keeping Leonard and Swanigan.

now asking me if Nurk gets hurt is ok.? That's a troll post dude...I've explained my take...we go into the season with 3 7 footers and and seven players who can play in the front court...I'm very superstitious about projecting injuries....as I said before we had 3 bigs that never sniffed the court all last season and no bench scoring...I think we're good as is. Something major happens...come Feb we can address that at the trade deadline....I don't see this situation you're referring too at all

So I'm supposed to feel confident that we are relying on guys who as you put it "never sniffed the court all last season"?

it is what it is.....I'm not looking for disasters before tipoff...our medical staff has been stellar of late...yeah...Big Ed's minutes are going to 2 guys who didn't play much..Pappa G is history.Leonard avg'd 7 minutes in a total of 33 games played ….people act like he's not here mostly because of the 9 mill he's paid...I think he'll be a contributor this season..in some of those 7 minute stretches he scored and rebounded really well...Swanigan will get you some rebounds
Two seasons ago Big Ed had serious injury bad luck....I don't wish that on any player. We're going to play small ball a lot in my view.

I'm here to cheer.....the opposite I don't find entertaining or really doing anything for me as a fan.

Which was it? Bad fit or late start? Or was it something else....

Carmelo Anthony: Oklahoma City Wasn't A Good Fit

Anthony_Carmelo_okc_171013.jpg

Carmelo Anthony initially was resistant to the idea of a buyout to become a free agent.

"To get bought out, to get waived, you were looked at like, you're done," said Anthony. "Now, it's just almost like the norm. If something doesn't work, go ahead and get a buyout or go ahead and get traded. That's the new norm in our society in basketball. I had to get over that.

"I had a conversation with my wife and family. I said to them, I'm not taking no buyout. I'm not getting waived. And they said, at the end of the day, nobody is going to know that. You have to do what you have to do. It's going to be a blip on your radar. It's on to the next chapter. It took me a while to get to that point where I'm like, OK, I'm going to accept it."

Anthony said ultimately things didn't work out with the Oklahoma City Thunder because of timing.

"At the end of the day, it wasn't a good fit," he said. "I think last year -- and I haven't talked about this before -- everything was just so rushed, going to the team for media day and the day before training camp. Them guys already had something in place, and then I come along in the 25th hour like, oh s---, Melo just come on and join us. Like, you can figure it out since you've been around the game for a long time. That's why it was so inconsistent. At times, I had to figure it out on my own rather than somebody over there or people over there helping me."

Anthony is expected to sign with the Houston Rockets.

"I think winning, at the end of the day, rewrites everything," he said. "It settles everything. I also look back at this past year. When we were winning, the story was written already. When we started losing, the story is written. It's almost premeditated. I'm playing ball. I'm happy. I'm excited about what's to come, wherever that may be."

At the beginning of last season...he was interviewed at training camp by Casey and said...sure....I want to start....you've never heard the interview? It was when he first showed off his conditioning and improvement....every player wants to start....Ed wouldn't complain if he didn't but he wanted a bigger role..Ed was happy here....nothing to do with it....same interview they asked him about Nurk's weight loss and he said, I don't pay attention to other dudes much..just my own game.....sure..he looks ok...Ed is a very real and honest dude...on the other hand I never heard Ed mention his paycheck here ever....he did say he was happy here though

That's not quite the same thing as saying he wanted to start. Not even close, actually. What you said implies unhappiness with his bench role. The reality is he was asked a yes/no question with only one practical answer. What's he supposed to say, "no I don't want to start"? That's just silly.

This is a baited argument...he said exactly what I said....sure...I want to start...I don't tell Ed Davis what he's supposed to say...I just think it's part of his reason for going east which I mentioned earlier....what's your point? I NEVER said he mentioned being unhappy either....I'll speak for myself here...glad to read anything you have to say about Ed Davis...go for it...I think your whole response to my post was actually silly....no big deal

Personal insults are not allowed here....I really don't care what you think of my skin or why that would be of interest to you...I come here to talk basketball... ...I'm not talking about you around here ...it's a forum rule...mods....deal with this crap this dude doesn't know me..
reference post #1152
Don't prove his point man.. you've tried to teach me that I don't have to respond to everything people throw at me, so I'll say the same to you.

the personal insults around here have to stop now....used to be like that around here and I'm in zero tolerance for that bs now..it's tough to talk about the team without these things and from here on out...I'm flaggin' every person who makes shit personal...don't care what it proves other than I like to enjoy the site ...nobody has to respond to shit thrown at them here but then this place just fills up with shit thrown at people....no more...rather than argue about it....I'll use the tools the forum has. I could care less if folks don't like whatever they don't like....my friends here are welcome to use humor to joke around about me...vice versa but strangers to me don't get to do that...my 2 cents. I'm here to have fun.

I'm my opinion, "zero tolerance" is the same as "thin-skinned".

If I said "You have no tolerance for anything", would that be an insult? That's be me repeated what you're telling us. So if I say you're "thin-skinned", how's that difference?

There's much worse that I've dealt with in here. I never see you stand up or call out any of it.

If he wanted to start, he wouldn't have gone to Brooklyn - A rebuilding team with a good young center they're building around (Jarrett Allen) who Davis won't start over.

Everything I've heard is Davis wanted to come back, but Olshey didnt want someone in the way of Collins earning more playing time (like what happened with C.J. to start his career).

what's the point of this...move on...it's a basketball thread...zero tolerance is a choice...thin skinned is an insult....not necessary...I made my point..you can feel however you like about it bones...just don't talk about it here

Then quit posting misleading stuff and scrambling under the "everyone is out to get me" cover when the fallacy of the context is pointed out. You've made it a daily occurrence.

I'm flaggin' every person who makes shit personal...

Maturity at its finest. I'm sure you'll have this flagged, too, although I'm not sure it qualifies as personal.

Couldn't agree more. See an insult-->report the post. Don't "call it out" in the thread, because it just leads to more arguing. Flag it, PM mods if necessary. Do it repeatedly. Nothing "thin-skinned" about trying to make this forum a better place.

What the hell are you talking about. @riverman has posted nothing misleading. His posts have looked pretty direct to me. Yours on the other hand...

"Receiving interest" does not mean an offer was ever made.
Agreed, and even if all of those teams made actual offers, it's possible that only the Nets offer was guaranteed money. We just don't have enough info based on tweet-length communications.

Re: Vonleh
I really like Vonleh, but his unwillingness to even look at the basket really helped out opposing defenses. Leave Caleb open even as far away as the 3, and he's shooting it some decent % of the time - he poses a threat.

Re: Swanigan
I think s2 is way too hard on him. IMHO, the jury's still out on him, he could still become a very productive player.

Chris Mullin is a HOFer who looked like he was missing basic NBA skills, but was an extremely good basketball player, nonetheless.

I think they did

If Curry is all the way back from injury, the backcourt rotation will be better. On the frontcourt rotation - we will have to agree to disagree. I'm not convinced Collins is ready to be force-fed more minutes (nor is Swanigan), and any plan that involves Leonard seeing the floor is a non-starter for me.

If the team was willing to write this season off in favor of long-term re-tooling...then I would say start Trent at the 3 and Collins at the 4, give Simons and Swanigan regular minutes, and take our lumps. That, however, is clearly not the plan.

good post...fair enough...it's refreshing to have a conversation that includes agree to disagree...I respect that....

Losers
Portland Trail Blazers

Similar to how the Raptors needed a shakeup after multiple seasons fizzled out in a similar manner, the Blazers seemingly needed one in 2017-18, too. Even after realizing they couldn’t go about things the exact same way and altering a handful of schematic details, those fixes weren’t nearly enough, and the club got swept in the first round by Anthony Davis and the Pelicans.

But the beatdown didn’t bring about big changes for the West’s No. 3 seed. Instead, the Blazers brought back restricted free agent center Jusuf Nurkic (who’s highly productive when he’s not getting whacked in the face) while losing solid bench contributors in guard Shabazz Napier and reserve big Ed Davis.Seth Curry may be able to replace Napier’s production, and the hope is that skilled big man Zach Collins can play a bigger role in his second year.

If there’s a sour taste in the mouths of Blazers fans, though, it should stem from the notion that Portland could have — and possibly would have — completed a sign-and-trade for Cousins had it not been that he and Nurkic have representatives who work for the same agency, potentially creating a conflict. Such a deal would have provided the sort of shakeup that a capped-out team like Portland needs. Instead, we may see this team — one of the few that enjoyed good health last year — finish near the bottom of the playoff pool in the West.

Bad fit, thought this when he went to OKC.
Any player who is unwilling/unable to play off-the-ball for the majority of possessions is a bad fit with Westbrick.
If KD & Westbrick couldn't make it work. Melo who throughout his career has been more of a high post/20foot and in operator... Certainly wasn't going to work.
Westbrick and Melo wanted to score in the same spots on the court. Mid range, and at the basket.

Which is still why I believe @Carmelo Anthony would be a perfect fit next to Lillard & CJ.
Both are elite shooters who can shoot from distance with ease.
But it looks like this will never happen.

I don't have the energy to start a new thread, but that would be an interesting question. Assume that the Blazers are willing to write this year (or the next two years) off to development, and then compete for a title, what would you (anyone) do regarding minutes and positions?

I would gamble on as many players as I could who I thought could be legit stars in the NBA, hoping to force out that third player. Collins, EB4, Trent and Simons would get at least 20 min/game, maybe alternate in as starters for certain stretches. I know it won't happen, but...
