Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

Agree with this philosophy. I'll go on and say match Batum at almost any price. But it's not my money and we actually just witness Allen sell a pick . . . who knows what is going on.

Unfortunately I think the position they should spend the money on is PG . . . which could likely cause a PG controversy. Nash for 3 years and front load it?

Agreed on resigning Batum. I think that, or at worst a S&T with him, is a given.

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

Free agency can't save this fucking joke of a franchise.................

UFA on my "short" list:

C Spencer Hawes, Chris Kaman
PF Carl Landry, Brandon Bass, Kris Humphries, Antawn Jamison
SF Jeff Green, Ersan Ilyasova
SG Ray Allen, Jason Terry, Lou Williams, Leandro Barbosa
PG Goran Dragic, Steve Nash, Chauncey Billups, Andre Miller, Kirk Hinrick, Ramon Sessions

RFA

C Javalee McGee, Brook Lopez, Omer Asik, Robin Lopez
PF Ryan Anderson, Michael Beasley, Jason Thompson, Anthony Randolph
SF
SG OJ Mayo
PG George Hill, Aaron Brooks, DJ Augustin

I assume we have no chance at Deron, Hibbert, Gordon, Lin. I think we go for some UFA right away before we have to worry about matching Batum. We may then try to claim amnesty waivers such as Brand, Branda Hay or Jose Calderon.

Jeff Green could be an interesting target. Boston will probably try to re-up KG and Allen for one last title run but they will be very hesitant to commit to multi-year salary.

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

so fucking pathetic. what a melt down.

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

don't feel sorry for me. I'm in a good mood. You're the little bitch tonight.

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

Yeah, I think we lose Nico. I don't think we attract anyone without overpaying them. PA is looking to sell the team, so I think the bottom line and future financial flexibility will be the calling card of the day.

Frankly, I think we should think about trading LA.

John Crapzono, is that you?

I say we go after Eric Gordon. I think NO is all talk when they say they will match anything.
I would also sign Delonte West (Assuming he is taking his Meds)

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

Does he though? I really doubt it....

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

lol

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

I rather try to Olshlap Pritchard, and grab Hibbert.

Lillard/Wes/Batum/Aldridge/Hibbert. Rather use Hibbs to take pressure off Leonard than use Gordon to take pressure off of Lillard (which Wes will already do - solely because he is somewhat seasoned - strong 3pt shooter and we have no one behind Meyers)

So, current roster, counting draftees & euros:

Lillard/Smith
Matthews/Williams/Barton
Batum/Babbitt/Claver
Aldridge/Hickson/Freeland
Leonard/Thomas

Who would be the best realistic additions to that group?

I'm optimistic for the new picks and all, but depending on lotto rookies to be quality starters from the get go seems a recipe for a long season. Better to plan to have them as part of the mix and hopefully have them earn the starting role by their play then be given it from the get go. Someone who is pass first/can create for others seems completely absent from this club. I really don't expect much from Leonard this year so some addition of quality size seems in order. The wings are set.

Joel Przybilla to tutor Leonard.

Actually I'm depending on those lotto picks to soak up lots and lots of minutes and lose like gangbusters while doing it, so we can have another crack at the lottery next year. Two lotto picks was a good start, but the team needs more talent and that's going to be the cheapest, most realistic path to getting it.

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

I like Barton.....but really, is that our hope?

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

I think the cap space won't even be used on a free agent. I think we might be able to do a lopsided trade to get back a good player with a big contract. The new CBA is going to KILL some teams.

I'v been thinking that all along, but what player are teams really willing to dump before the season starts since you have this new 90% of your cap must be used? I think we sign a few 1 year deals and do trades after the all-star break.

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

Doesn't make sense to burn all the cap space on a PG with lillard as PGOTF . . . yet that is where we will need the most help for next year.

But should we really be concerned about "next year"? Isn't next year supposed to be primarily developmental?

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

Don't worry, Lillard is the next Westbrook\Rose....ROFL.....

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

Interesting quotes from Olshey on Hecht's blog:

Is it safe to say you’ll bring in a veteran point guard?

We’ve been talking about it, but I don’t know at what level, you know what I mean? But I do think that guys like Damian and Nolan are gonna need a guy to show them the ropes. I can tell you how invaluable it was, we had some classy big guys with DeAndre Jordan that mentored him and he was a little bit of a project. And that worked out. I’ve seen the growth. All you have to do is see the growth of Eric Bledsoe after spending four months of his life with Chris Paul and Chauncy Billups and Mo Williams, three of the classiest leaders in the league at their position. It accelerated his growth exponentially so whether it’s a guy that’s going to be on the floor ahead of him or it’s gonna be a guy as a quarterback coach to guide him through the process I do think it’s important to have somebody here for him.

It would be more as a mentoring role rather than a contingency plan?

I think that has to be an aspect of it. I don’t think were coming in to get somebody to rip some kids heart out that’s 20-years-old. I think it’s gonna have to be someone that understands there’s a duality. On of the things Eric Bledsoe, as talented as he was, his talent was a threat to some of the guys on the roster, but they never perceived it as such. And they took great effort, Mo, Chauncy, Chris, to really groom him and guide him through what it’s like to be a point guard in the NBA and you see the difference between where he is as a rookie to doing what he did in two playoff series. And a lot of the credit is owed to those guys. And I anticipate doing the same thing with Meyers Leonard.

Did you look closely at Meyers’ injury history?

Yeah, I can’t tell you how many times we discussed it. We spent an hour on the phone today with the trainer from University of Illinois, we tested him here, extra MRIs, Jay Jenson totally signed off on it. Bigs are going to have more little nagging things because of the pressure on them. But he never missed a game due to injury at Illinois, never complained about it. Our foot specialist, Dr McCrary, examined him when he came here as well. So we literally could not have done more due diligence. And if all of those people, from McCrary to Jenson to their trainer to the Chicago doctors, hadn’t signed off there probably would have been a different result at eleven.
