Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

Marvin Williams
Tyrus Thomas
Brendan Haywood
Bird Man
Salmons
Calderon

Calderon would be great as a PG to pick up under amnesty, Haywood as a serviceable C perhaps, and Marv at SF could be a good pickup as well. not bad choices if they happen

Calderon doesn't fit anymore. Not sure he is the guy to "groom" Lillard as a stud P&R PG

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

Nash would be an amazing guy to tutor Lillard..... but would he?

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

Nash actually would be

I was dead set against signing him a month ago, but after seeing how free agency will most likely play out, I don't see the harm in signing Nash for a couple years and letting Lillard develop. We need to end the Nolan Smith experiment before it even really starts.

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

I'd go after Steve Nash. I'd also see about Kaman/McGee/Hibbert...but I'm thinking that Kaman would be the most resonably priced. Nash seems to be wanting a big contract though, so if we sign him, Hickson and Batum we're probably done.

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

I'd only go for Nash if he wasn't coming here to get 30+ minutes a night. IMO, Lillard needs 25+ at PG from the get go

Yeah, Nash would kill our cap space, but I really don't think we'd have that many holes.... we're not going to contend, but if we keep Batum and Hickson, and then bring over Freeland and Claver, that pretty much fills the roster.

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

No Nash. We just drafted at PG and need to see what we have in him.

I'd throw big offers at Gordon or Hibbert and if we are rebuffed, see if we can save cap room for next summer.

I asked that earlier. Would it matter next year? I will have to email storyteller and ask

I don't think there will be any space next summer if we re-sign Batum and bring over Freeland/Claver. I think it's pretty much now or never.

Hmm, it does seem that would eat up most of the cap room; so what is Olshey talking about when he says:
"I’ll say this, if we don’t get the right guys this off-season, guys that are going to grow with this organization and fit into our vision, then we’ll have no problem deferring the cap room into 2013-14 and having that flexibility once there’s fewer teams with room."

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

Oh, I see he's not talking about next year, but two years from now. Will we have some contracts expiring then?

Then don't resign Batum. Problem solved.

Its always now or never. Planning to tank to build through the lottery for several years doesn't work nor does imaginary cap space.

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

I think we need to S&T Batum, maybe for a guy like Igoudala. AI and LA would be a pretty nice combo...add Steve Nash and we'll be good.

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

Once again bro, if you read the entire post, you would know. I clearly outlined this... anyway:

LILLARD IS A WILLING PASSER WHO ACTUALLY LOOKS TO PASS AND DISTRIBUTE RATHER THAN TO SCORE - BUT DUE TO HIS TEAM - HE WAS FORCED TO SCORE.

Well, being willing and able are two different things. We'll see about Lillard....I hope he does well. But all I have to judge him on his video clips, when I watch him I feel like i"m looking at a Jerryd Bayless clone.

It's tough to let a guy his age just walk away. $40 mil over four years isn't so bad... I just hope it's not more than that.

6 assists per 36 minutes on a team that can't shoot is not bad. For example, Rose has averaged about 6 assists per 36 minutes over his career. (6.8 per 36.8)

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

We could resign Batum for up to $10M and still have cap space next season. We would not resign Hickson this year. Thomas and SWill come off books. We would also not exercise team options on Babbitt, EWill, and Nolan.

We'd have about $10M to spend.

That doesn't sound so bad.

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

OJ Mayo is unrestricted.

Alex Kennedy ‏@AlexKennedyNBA
The Memphis Grizzlies will not issue a qualifying offer to O.J. Mayo, which means he'll become an unrestricted free agent.

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

So this means the TWolves can rectify that trade and bring him back!!!

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

Bring back Andre Miller? Nate isn't here anymore, nor is Brandon.

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

:MARIS61:

I am not a huge OJ Mayo fan, but I have to admit it intrigues me because I see him as a real possibility.

Some games I saw he looked pretty good and others he was non existent. How has his attitude been? Do his teammates like him?

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

I say Steve Nash for 2-3 years . . . please give the fans something to cheer for at games as we enter another rebuilding phase

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

He might not want to, but I'm not opposed to it. The thing is, Dre isn't the "teacher" kind of guy.

He really sounds like he wants to stay in Denver. I doubt he wants to come back. He needs to go to a contender if he leaves denver.

I don't think he wants to stay in Denver as the backup. The guy can still start in this league. He might want to go to a Miami or another contender. I could see that. I still think we should just start Lillard and let him learn on the job.
