Free agent center Greg Stiemsma is signing a training camp deal with the Portland Trail Blazers

He looks like he's got skills although as HCP said, they can make Joel Pryzbilla look like Ray Allen in those highlight reels.

Ok that's pushing it...wait old Ray Allen?

That's my lucky number....birth year and predicted win total this season...I should go buy a lottery ticket

Your reading it backwards he's wearing the number 54 not the number 45

Seems like a low risk move by Olshey that could pay dividends if a trade opportunity comes along involving one or more of our big guys.

Every time Olshey signs a no-talent, you praise it as a skillful "low-risk move."

The skillful part is questionable, the low risk part isn't. How much skill does it take to sign someone to a training camp contract? I'm sure they have a standard boilerplate contract for that purpose. Here you go Mr. Stiemsma, sign here and here and here. OK done, welcome to the organization. I think I could handle that part of Olshey's job.

Low risk (actually no risk) is the entire point of a training camp contract. There is no commitment beyond training camp. So, unless he blows them away and they offer him a longer term contract he won't count against the cap, or the luxury tax or take up a roster spot.

He's just training camp fodder to give us an extra big man to scrimmage 5-on-5 until Festus and Meyers are cleared for full contact drills.

Genius post aimed at brand new NBA fans. No shit, Sherlock!

How much risk do you assign to a training camp contract for a guy who can be cut before the start of the season? If a trade is being sought, then having a guy in camp who can become the 3rd or 4th string center will look smart. Otherwise, there's zero risk. So I guess I was inaccurate to begin with in implying there was some risk involved.

Man, who peed in your beer tonight?

Nobody, but what I drank last night woke me up several times to pee!

Anyway, when you return to this board after being absent most of the summer, you notice the same personality traits of people that you remember. Tonight, I've especially noticed Boob (long posts with many stats to make obvious points) and you (always trying to be supportive by praising the tiniest of Olshey's actions).

True. I noticed SlyPokerDog is still an asshole.

The way he moves and his body language reminds me of young Chris Kaman. One obvious difference is that as soon as he gets the ball, he passes it, LOL. Also doesn't have Chris' turnaround shot, but no reason why he couldn't learn it.
Agree. He does look like a lumberjack. lol

There's a difference between praising and commenting. I was surprised at the signing and then thought it might make sense if there's a possibility of a trade involving one or more of our big men so I posted my comment. If you took it as unduly sunny, I guess I will just have to live with that.

You're not the first person to notice this about me.
yeah but you're excused...dog's first go to move is usually an asshole inspection even if they think we're not watching

Yes, we all get it's a training camp signing. But if we didn't already have a plethora of big men, I'd be happy to have him on our bench. We could do much worse. And in case a trade or injury happens, this is a good opportunity for him to try out, and for us to take a look.

I read an article about it saying he's battling 2 other invites and Montero for the 15th roster spot..Monetero doesn't have a guaranteed contract
