^^^^^ I agree hold heartedly. Instead of innings, they should go with matchup and line-up management. Girardi should be dictating that which would put other managers potentially in a pinch hit, chew up the bench situation. For example, I would of brought Miller in to relieve Nate, first, to stop the bleeding and try to get out of the inning with lead. I then would play natchup with Yates vs righties, and Pazos vs. lefties but not until yates gave up a baserunner. I may be then able to ride Yates through the 7th. With lead still intact. Then Betances and Chapman. If we were able to add on at 5-4, (I know don't say it) then maybe we can hold back Betances/Chapman in this scenario, assisgning innings is overuse in my opinion.
...yup, sometimes the most important or most pivotal out of a game may come in the middle of the 6th, 7th or 8th inning instead of the the last out of he game.
...true, Betances gave up a run in the 7th but we can't assume the game would have unfolded the same way if he had been brought in with 1 out in the 6th inning because he would have been facing different batters.
