You don't have to register your car or boat either. You have to have a license to use your gun in public as well.

Gun laws are already more strict than car laws. No state restricts car sales besed on a background check.

Who said anything about driving it? People are advocating for laws requiring registering guns and running background checks just to own them.

You don't have to register a car or boat to own it. You can even drive it on private property without registering it or having a license...

God it just all makes me sick to my stomach. My oldest is a 15 year old sophomore. These kids are all his age. Those parents sent their kids to school, off on the bus and then get a phone call a couple hours later and that’s it. It’s literally the absolute worst possible thing I can ever think of. I’d find my way to that dad and fucking kill him.

okay but really. How many people are out there buying cars and boats to not drive or use?
Yeah i can buy a car and park it on my property but thats maybe .01% of what all car owners do?

The reality is people have to have a license, show proof of insurance and register a vehicle to use them in a practical sense.

Thats kinda a strawman argument.

Do you ever use your guns at a shooting range or in the woods in a safe environment?

Between retirement and the pandemic, I was putting putting on the pounds and really feeling it. Got a part time job at the local hardware store and am so far averaging 11000 steps per 6 hour shift. I’m tired and whooped when I get home but I’m dropping some weight and feeling a little more fit every day. It just feels good to to be back out into the world, pandemic be damned. This shit has gotten old.

I usually use my guns on private property. But I also have a concealed weapons permit and my firearms are registered.

And you have to have a concealed weapons permit for any practical use of a gun as well. Other than just keeping in your house or carrying it, unloaded, out of city limits...

I've owned many cars that weren't registered. And many boats. A lot of people do. No reason to register it unless you want it street legal. And no reason to register a boat if you aren't going to use it that year.

You can argue for the sake of arguing if you want, but there is no law requiring registering or license to buy an automobile or boat. So the argument that gun laws should be the same as car laws would mean fewer restrictions on guns.

im not arguing for gun laws, just getting a better clarity on what you are saying.
Your own statement said no reason to register a boat if you aren't gonna use it that year? Who buys and sells a boat without using it? Which is what you are saying, because if they want to use it the next year, they still have to register it next year do they not?
So your response makes no sense to me…

And if you have owned “lots” of unregistered cars, you are part of the .01 percent and not a practical response for what the average person does with their vehicles.

and if you did, are you saying you were driving illegally? or you still always had a car registered that you used on public roads?

Again im not advocating for guns laws, just questioning your response about car registration. I don't think your response was practical and that may be because of your situation, but i assure you the average person hasn't owned lots of unregistered cars unless they have an issue with the law preventing them from walking into a dmv.

Ive had to register my cars, boat & RV in order to get tags and operate legally. In order to drive a vehicle or operate a boat legally over 10hp, I need a valid drivers license & boat operating certificate.
Oregon now requires registrations for freaking paddle boards over a certain length if you are going to use it on Oregon waters. Another form of tax, imo.

Which is comparing apples to apples here.

Anyone who owns a gun and never uses it ( and lets be real, most people live in areas where a gun still cant be used on private property, city limits) is also dangerous. A responsible gun owner makes sure they are fluid with thier firearms, and that requires regular usage and maintenance.

And ill point out another thing. Most people who own guns who can shoot them on their property live in the sticks where they rarely get robbed. Id bet my top dollar that most gun thefts happen in the city where they are illegal to fire anyhow…

all of this is a ridiculous strawman argument that you can own a car and let it sit on your property without registering it. Just arguing to argue, to avoid maybe being even a bit wrong about the reality( not the actual law)

But if you want to store them in a locked facility you don't need to register or license anything.

So either you want guns to be the same way, which would take loosening laws on guns, or you don't.

Yes you can. There is no law requiring that. You can buy a car cash at a lot and have it towed home.

Please show me the law that requires otherwise?

Ok you can have it towed or have someone with a licence drive it sure. Most dealerships won't let you leave without insurance. Not saying there is a law against it.

I think it's a moot argument anyway

I suppose I could try to google it, and I'm not arguing or disputing, just honestly have no idea, what is exactly required of gun owners, let's say in Oregon?
