Frye May Be Done for the Season

Frye suffered a sprained knee ligament when he was bowled over by Toronto's Andre Barrett in the fourth quarter of the Knicks' 114-109 loss to the Raptors last night.
X-rays were negative, but the forward did not accompany the team to Orlando for tonight's game. Frye will undergo an MRI today.

While the early signs were encouraging, with 16 games left, the Knicks have no reason to rush back their prized rookie.

"I feel good," Frye said. "It could have been a lot worse. I'll be OK."

Frye was standing under the Knicks' basket like a cornerback waiting for a running back as Barrett steamed toward him on a fast break with 9:36 left in the fourth.

Nate Robinson, chasing Barrett, made contact with him just before Barrett got to Frye.

Barrett went down; his left shoulder hit Frye's left knee and Frye crumpled to the floor. He got up after a few minutes and was helped off the court.

Frye, who started for Malik Rose (sprained right ankle), was having one of his best games of late with 19 points, nine rebounds and four blocks.</div>

Frye averaged 12.3 points and 5.8 rebounds, both of which rank third among all rookies, and his 47.7 shooting percentage ranks fourth. Yet his 24.2 minutes per game is only seventh, so he was very productive in the time allotted.

Brown was encouraged by the improvement in Frye's rebounding, and he wants him to work on defense and driving instead of just spotting up for his jumper.</div>

It's really all Nate Robinson's fault for pushing Barrett into Frye, but it doesn't matter how it happened. Fortunately it wasn't as serious as it could have been. The way Frye was screaming in pain I was scared for him. I kept on getting McDyess flashbacks.

Overall, Frye has had a very good rookie year, especially when you take into consideration how everyone viewed him during the draft. They said he was a bust and the Knicks would be sorry if they chose him in the lottery. Well, Frye has been one of our most productive players in the little time he gets and he's been working hard all season. Had Brown given him the consistent 30 minutes he deserved Frye could have easily averaged 16 points and 6.5 rebounds a game. I look forward to seeing what he does next year.

Wow, that really sucks for all those New York fans. They way Frye is doing this year, I thought he should have been a consistent starter at power forward, because he would have brought scoring, athleticism, and potential and have been a shining light in a crappy team.

Hope he gets better and he should have a great sophmore season.

This is bad news to New York, i saw the knicks/raptors game and he was playing good. He has a decent mid range jumper i agree, i do hope he comes back soon.

He one of the best mid range jumpers. like 70% of his points almost come from that jumpshot.

12 games into the end of the season so it doesnt really matter much. Yes, he did have a very good season especially since everyone here trashed him for being soft. He was one of the most consistent knicks night after night. He'll definitely make all rookie 1st team. CP3 takes ROTY

This must be bad for the Knicks because they could've given him time to get used to the NBA and develop.
