I would also say that he motivates his team to play excellent defense. I'll be honest, I haven't watched every single Memphis game. It would be unfair for me to say that Fizdale is a better coach than Stotts. That being said...

Stotts has focused on defense a bit more this year, so he gets a pass in that department. He has let a few other things slip in my opinion, i.e. end of games playcalling, timeout timing. I'm not out for his head yet, but I understand the criticism he is receiving.
