My takes from this game:

Offense is pretty much a two man show between Lillard and CJ. Jones Jr. and RoCo are zero involved which is not their fault. I absolutely believe that DJJ and RoCo are upgrades over Aminu and Harkless, Stotts is using both very poorly. They are much better than what we have seen from them.

Bench is horrendous, Melo is a totally blackhole and he's really starting to pissing me of, dude has zero basketball iq and takes ridiculously bad shots, and Stotts has no balls to take him accountable, Giles and Collins (when healthy) have to play over Kanter and Melo, they're unplayable. I'm not worried about Hood, he will be back as soon as Melo and Kanter are out of the rotation. The Bench has to be Simons, Trent, Hood, Giles and Collins.

I would prefer Trent in the starting lineup!

Doesn't look like that's on the table though...
I would too. He's as good as DJJ defensively and has a better post up and three than DJJ. Jones would be fun off the bench as a slasher of which we see zero of when he starts.

or maybe it was staged and even GTJ pouting was an act to keep him out of the picture. /tinfoil hat

Who doesn't appeciate an occasional tinfoil hat reference. :bgrin:

Granted the Blazers still look "out of sync", and I don't expect it to get much better for another month.
But did it really matter who was on the floor with Harden last night? When he is shooting like that no one else is touching the ball.
Matter of fact I wish someone else besides Harden was out there taking away his shots. I do find it funny that after many Blazer fans have been asking for Neil to go after Wood and Tucker that all of a sudden they are considered G league players.

Not sure who did that, but every reference I made to the Rockets G-league squad mentioned Harden/Wood as the exceptions. Tucker obviously isn't a G-leaguer. Just a career singlel digit scorer who is now old.

coaching issue. The slashing would serve better in the starting lineup if we just called more off ball screens for him to slash off of.
The off ball movement is making many players look worse than they are.

Ive watched a bunch of games of late and you are correct in that we dont move the ball as we should.

its not just ball movement. Its off the ball movement. we find our spots snd camp or rotate side to side based on the ball handlers direction of dribble.
when Mellow is dribbling down a defender all we do is wait for a double team and then half the time the shot is still taken regardless.
What i would love to see is this:

mellow gets the ball. As soon as its passed the weakside, top of the key player comes down and plants a screen on the corner defender. Or vice versa. By the third dribble a player is then forcing the defense to mKe a decision off of the ball. In turn, then mellow finds one of two guys. An open spot up or a slasher for a dunk.
Mello could lead the second unit in assists.
But it takes proper playcalling.

One observation I noticed last night was Harden was able to easily blow past DJJ as he wasn't quick enough laterally. Trent is a better on ball defender and can bother a player like Harden with his quick hands and D.

Yeah, Harden did destroy Jones a few times but Jones won a few battles as well. I wonder how many times he has actually faced Harden before last night? JH has a way of keeping defenders off balance. Not sure if it was an issue with his quickness or just a lack of knowing Harden's moves.

I think DJJ and ROCO are better off the ball while Trent is better on the ball. DJJ and Roco are good at getting in passing lanes and disrupting, but neither could stay in front of Harden.

nobody can stay in front of Harden

also Trent is good at fouling too. Harden would have had a field day against Trent as well

Hmm, I am rewatching the game right now and I am not seeing this at all.
I look through the game lines on the internet to find who assist to. I just got done watching the game and I got eat my words a little CJ offense was pretty damn good last night there were just few where he dance with the ball but majority it was catch and shoot or went a spot on the dribble for a good shot so hats off the way CJ played offense last night.

Harden had field anyway but you got to play good team defense to make it has tuff has possible on him. Our team defense is lacking a lot right now.

Overall last night game our offense was pretty good I like at time we push the ball up the court and got some basket when there defense wasn't set. Some nice back screen by covington to free back door to CJ and Dame the other was to Jones that he passed to corner to CJ for a 3 like to see more of that. Defense to much ball watching by the front court with 2nd unit that gave up some easy buckets. I was watching Nurk especially on defense that lateral movement is not good and not getting no lift while attempting to jump. Might have something to do with his conditioning and also might be his broken leg he had that preventing that too. I like to watch to see if that improve going forth through the season. But he still does a lot good thing that can help the team to team to be successful. Simons actually to pretty good job tonight especially on defense. But the team defense as a lot to work on on both unit to many times they close well but kept the hand down and got burnt and the rotations was not real good and rim protecting non existent. Zach does have a boot on so might be interesting if he had a set back or is it precautionary reasons.

Nah, the Blazers beat the Rockets.

Which was made up of 5 undrafted players out of the 9 that suited up from what I hear. So it was the 'Rockets', but it almost might as well have been Harden, Wood, and 3 lawnmower men.

Nuggets lost to Kings at home....... Jazz lose to Minny at home..... neither of those teams suck and I bet they would have gladly excepted an ugly win like this, than a loss.

Ohhhhhh, I completely forgot that on the last night of the season when it comes down to the final games to hash out 4 or 5 playoff positions, when they look at the standings one of the tiebreakers is if the wins were QUALITY or not. My bad. Take the W and save the complaining for the 2 ass whoopings we're about to get in LA.

Has nothing to do with that. It's big picture about whether the team is playing well or not. If you think an eeking out an OT win at home against that roster qualifies as playing well, then I would recommend....actually a number of things. I'd like to see growth so that trips to LA aren't anticpated ass whoppings.

HCP when you guys gonna stop thinking it's cute to show us an angle from courtside?
Literally ALL 30 teams and TNT and ESPN are experimenting with new summer league type camera angles because we have access we never have had before. Also, we are restricted and can't have the normal "handheld" cameras under the hoops. During our broadcasting meetings last month with the NBA they are pushing for ALL teams to be "cute" this season......... Get used to it.
Also, the road games are going to be a massive undertaking to even get to you, like the bubble games are. The fact that we aren't there, and us only having 1/2 the cameras..... gonna be a large task. More than normal. On games this season you might see more opposing teams replays as well. There are a handful of teams not even broadcasting their own road games, they are just using the home teams feed, so last night for example, we had to show more Rocket replays for their show back home. A giant mess. Unlike the teams son the court, the opposing broadcast are basically our co-workers. So the league really pushes for us all to help each other as much as possible.
Have all these "experts" contact the NBA, cause it's a league wide mandate.

If you can find where @THE HCP said the blazers are playing well, please send him a link. He is saying who gives a shit if they are playing well......take the W and move on!

I'm not going to get used to it. I like to be able to see what's actually happening. I'm going to bitch until they stop doing it.

It’s such a strange issue- I don’t mind it at all. I love the closer look and being eye level. Some really have a visceral reaction to it.

Fine....some of us care about the team playing well. Great to get a W....but those types of teams with that type of roster won't be in the Playoffs.

No shit! People cussing and freaking out about it is kinda funny. If it means anything, I had 3 different producers from around the league.....Nuggets,Knicks and Heat text me during the game saying how great it looked great. I'm too busy working to notice.

Some people I'm sure thought pet rocks and New Coke were good ideas too.

The 0-2 Mavs are up on the 2-0 Clippers (who just SMASHED the world champ lakers) 31-9 on the road!
I'm quite sure the Clippers are praying to get out of this game with a W, regardless of how it is obtained.
