Also we need to play Nas more. Only 5 minutes ?

I was pretty surprised about that. Giles was -11 in his 13 minutes out there. I was watching Giles, and that +/- is actually telling the real story. He just isn't that great of a player.

I'd rather Nas out there for those minutes instead and just run no center. Especially against a team like Dallas where there aren't any interior threats.

Little is 3 games removed from a 30 point outburst. I want to see what he can do with more minutes.

Solid road win even with the almost melt down at the end and the absolutely BRUTAL defense on the last play giving Doncic his most wide open '3' of the night. Thank goodness he had a rare 2nd half miss. He might not get that open of a look the rest of the year.

Trent continues to do well in his starting role. Ant doing better (off the ball). RoCo becoming more RoCo'ish and Jones doing little things....thank goodness because he isn't doing much of anything else.

8-5 with McCollum
8-5 w/o McCollum

....not sure I see much difference. Which is why (as for the last several years) I've been on board with moving CJ for what you can to help the wing/front court as I think they can effectively replace his offense by committee and be better on defense.

Interesting, but I think we're playing better defense, not because CJ isn't playing, but because of number of reps. So, with more reps + CJ, we should be doing a lot better. That being said, we're still 29th in DRtg :(

At this point I'm pretty much done with Giles, but he's our only backup big

Mrs. Olshey didn't turn up the knob on the fake crowd noise machine.
It would be so much better if the crowd tracks had moans and groans and ref heckling...if they're actually trying to simulate a game....just use the Knicks crowd noise for those mood swings...we need more "throw the bum out!" coverage (I know, sounds like an insurance option)

Was Giles injury just a cramp?

Was Giles injury just a cramp?
Well, he isn't on the ESPN.com injury report so if they did initially think it was something more than they likely don't now. Not that ESPN is always the most accurate source of information for our small market team. Last night NBCSports was making a big deal of it right after the game but maybe they were overreacting or he is injured and the Blazers just haven't sent out the injury report to the media yet.

Was Giles injury just a cramp?

No way to know, but the way he was grabbing at it, seemed like a cramp. Then again, it happened right after a push off on that leg so maybe an strain or (God forbit) an achillies issue?

Hopefully, it was just a cramp.

Was Giles injury just a cramp?
I'm guessing hyper extended tendon...inflamed, needs rest and ice to avoid a tear or rupture...common with bigs but manageable if you get it in time....cramp would be the best case scenario...a lot of sprains are just inflamation from stretching a tendon past it's normal point.

So this is kind of weird. Giles goes down with a calf strain and we are not getting much info.
AD goes down with a Calf Strain and he will be re-evaluated in 2-3 weeks?
I wonder if Giles is out that long?

As recently as today, AD's injury was described as an Achilles but now it's been called a calf strain. The fact is there are different grades to muscle strains 1-3 so AD's injury and projected timeline doesn't tell us a lot about Giles. Giles is listed as day-to-day and AD is listed as out on the injury report, so I expect that Giles will be back sooner than AD.

So wait a sec...... the only team in the EAST with a better record than us, we just beat twice!!?? So confused. We're better than Brooklyn, Milwaukee, Miami and Indy? Wonder what their forums are like?
I tried telling you our roster wasn't dogshit. Seems like you didnt listen.

I just rewatched the game. Lost somewhat in the discussions were some of the plays from Jones. He had several spectacular highlights His blocks and the rebound dunk were all incredible.

Also, I focused on some attention to Giles. Not saying he did anything specular but he was having a good game before he got hurt.
Refs seem to pick on him though.

Yeah that was probably the best recent outing by Giles.

In the very article you cited, Lillard himself said that 45 minutes wasn't enough.

He had decided to stay, but that morning he learned that Olshey would sign Whiteside. That changed his plans and he needed time to think.
Olshey didn’t sign Whiteside. It was a trade. That he wouldn’t have made if Kanter signed.

How many podcasts of the NBA are there?
Many. My favorites are The Mismatch, The Ringer NBA Show, Open Floor, No Dunks, The Lowe Post, The Hoop Collective, and The Bill Simmons Podcast. The Woj pod is also good and I like John Hollinger’s too.

In summary, here is how Olshey fucked up:

Kanter is better than Whiteside or Nurkic. If Olshey had a GM's talent to evaluate players, he would have made Kanter, not Hood, his first priority. Instead, he didn't have the time to negotiate/discuss it that morning with Kanter, and blew $27 million on Whiteside.
Hood was not Olshey’s first priority. That is why he traded for Bazemore. To replace Hood. Kanter was Olshey’s first priority but Kanter had to make his decision because if he says no and Whiteside is traded elsewhere, we’re stuck with Meyers til Nurk comes back.

You're saying that only after Kanter left, Olshey commenced negotiations for Whiteside. No, he had arranged it previously, it was in the bag, Kanter found out, and split when Olshey wouldn't talk to him.

No, Hood was his top priority, and Bazemore was in case Hood didn't return. Olshey lost Kanter a week after getting Bazemore, and 5 nervous days before resigning Hood.

The Whiteside trade was lined up for if Kanter didn’t sign.

We all read the previous day that Olshey was getting Whiteside. Kanter sure read it. The next morning, Kanter left, saying Olshey had given him too few minutes that morning to decide/discuss with Olshey.

By short-shrifting him with the bum's rush, Olshey thus manipulated Kanter out, so that he could sign Whiteside. Olshey obeyed the stats/reputation of starter Whiteside vs. substitute Kanter, instead of having the GM talent to evaluate them independently of others' opinions. Kanter was much better and cheaper than Whiteside. We need a better GM.

bullshit. Kanter had YEARS to figure it out.

bullshit. Kanter had YEARS to figure it out.

You say that Kanter knew years in advance that Whiteside was replacing him, and he wasn't surprised. Therefore, you think that KingSpeed is wrong, when he says that Olshey went for Whiteside only after Kanter split, not before. Olshey decided this years in advance, according to you. Glad to have you on my side against King.

There's a lack of common sense on this board.

Sorry - You are wrong here....

Woj reported that Hood was coming back to Portland. The timestamp on that tweet says 6/30/19 @ 3:40pm

There wasn't any information about Whiteside being traded to Portland until Woj tweeted it on 7/1/19 @ 9:30am

The Whiteside trade came as a surprise to almost everyone.
There was one thread who suggested Whiteside as a trade target in 2018.

The next mention of Whiteside even being a possibility was a result of Woj's tweet on 7/1/19.... Which was AFTER Hood already agreed to re-sign (which meant Kanter was gone).

You can check for your self here: http://www.sportstwo.com/search/73231444/?page=2&q=Whiteside&o=date&c[title_only]=1&c[node]=123
Doing some fact checking before spouting off incorrect things from memory is a good habit to get into....
