The problem with Nurk is Disappointment.

I'm kind of OK with him. He's good defender and he can help us in offence sometimes, but man. He came here to be The Beast and it seems he is playing it save. His game is so hard to watch for me, cos I expected him to break the fuckin glass, go up and dunk the ball with authority. He supposed to be a supertank inside. Instead I have to watch all this layups like he was 6 feet tall and couldn't jump high enough to dunk it. I know it was discussed here before and this way he can stay healthy for longer and it makes sense.
So with him it is just this - disappointment. We expected him to give this team his heart, but (surprise, surprise) he thinks more about himself:)
So he's OK and he is good, but it's really hard to have a big man that don't dunk the ball and shoot circus shots instead.
And I guess we all know that you need to see some big dunks sometimes to bring the spark, energy, momentum.
So your problem with Nurkic is your own expectations? That's on you, not Nurkic.

DeRozan will have his way with us. Just like Jimmy Butler. Neither Dame or CJ have the physique to D up a full sized shooting guard. It's a real problem and one of the reasons I am for trading CJ if we can get back fair value and a better fit.
That's a big if.

The idea that you come to this place for the paycheck and then take a nap, is probably fixed in a lot of free agents minds.
What makes you think that? Genuine question.

Even just getting them to come to Portland in the first place..
I agree. I always laugh when people mention getting big name free agents to sign with us.

Personally I think the only way we can get big names to Portland is via the draft, or trades.

But I think Turner frankly has a lot of self doubts about whether he's worth the money. That might be affecting his play. When he was hungry he played with his balls to the wall. Now he's got that big house and is set for life. Basketball isn't live or die anymore. Can't say I blame him.
Not such an awesome house anymore.

I saw that, and I don't have his +/- handy for the BOS lineups, but he was utilized (to my admittedly poor recollection) a lot different in BOS. It seemed a lot more "if we need you, shoot...if not, know your role", especially in his 6MOTY-caliber 2016 season (that got him paaaaaid)
Can you clarify this statement?

Can you please define:
"if we need you" = ?
"if not" = ?
"know your roll" = ?

Their jersey's didn't remind me of anything...I listened to the game on the radio

Their jerseys reminded me of this:

That probably says a lot more about me than them.
That is infinitely more classy.

I could use some of that right now

Your statement sounds like Bonzi Wells.

Yes, I've got my expectation. If not, who they play for? And if not for fans, why the fuck I watch them?

Your expectations are your own. Nurkic doesn't need to live up to your (or any fans) expectations. He needs to live up the the expectations of his teammates, Terry Stotts, Paul Allen, and himself. Anyone else's expectations are irrelevant.

I can't think of any athlete in any sport that honestly plays "for the fans". That's just BS they sell to rubes.

They play for success.

The good ones play for team success, the poor ones play for individual success.

Well, yeah, still sounds like Bonzi Wells;)

I missed this game. I wasn't feeling good, so I opted for a nap instead. This game went pretty much how I expected it to. We're not good enough to beat Toronto.

That being said, it looks like Nurk had a good game. But he still desperately needs a Big Man coach. He's too much of trying to be finesse, and not enough of trying to be power. Someone of his size and strength should be way more bullish in the paint. And that's on the coaching staff and their lack of big man coach.

I doubt I'm going to catch the game on Sunday morning either. It's pretty early for me, and I'll be busy at a Superbowl party that afternoon, so I may want to sleep in. Hope everyone has a good weekend!
