• Friday marks the first of four matchups between the Trail Blazers and Mavericks in 2016-17.

• Dallas won two of its three games against Portland in 2015-16 to solidify its fourth season series over the Trail Blazers in the past five years (one tie).

• The Trail Blazers lost their lone game against the Mavericks last season and have now lost four consecutive games in Dallas. Portland is 2-9 in its last 11 contests in Dallas dating back to the start of the 2010-11 season.

• The Trail Blazers won their final game against the Mavericks on March 23 of last season. Portland hasn’t won consecutive games against Dallas since it won two straight over the Mavericks during the 2010-11 season.

• Damian Lillard averaged a team-high 26.0 points (42.3% 3-PT) and 8.0 assists in three games against Dallas last season. Lillard scored at least 20 points in all three of those contests after recording 20+ points in two of his first 11 career games against the Mavericks.

• Allen Crabbe averaged 16.0 points on 51.7% shooting (11-18 3-PT) in three games against Dallas in 2015-16 (1st in ppg among Western Conference teams).

• Mason Plumlee averaged 9.0 points and 10.7 rebounds in three games against the Mavericks last season. Plumlee recorded 14 points (5-9 FG) and a career-high 19 rebounds (10 offensive) in Portland’s lone trip to Dallas last season on March 20.

• CONNECTION: Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts helped lead Dallas to the 2011 NBA Championship in one of his four years as a Mavericks assistant coach from 2008-12.

• CONNECTION: Dallas guard Wesley Matthews (826) ranks second behind Damian Lillard (841) on Portland’s all-time three-point list. He averaged 15.4 points on 43.8% shooting in five seasons with the Trail Blazers from 2010-15.

• CONNECTION: Portland center Festus Ezeli was teammates with Harrison Barnes and Andrew Bogut for four seasons from 2012-16. All three players joined the Warriors prior to the start of the 2012-13 season.

It's stupid. And lazy. We need to work hard to stay on our assignments at all times through whatever screens. But we often see a screen and give up on it and switch.

I can't tell if Stotts wants them to play lazy defense, or the players are just lazy and aren't held accountable.
