TB is the better team right now, with the experience, we agree Al. I think this run will only make us better moving forward. Hard to see it today, but big picture this was a very positive forward growth season. The NHL playoffs are such a challenge no guarantee we'll get back here, but the arrow is straight up on this team.

Fox and Miller studs on D - Schneider should get better. Lindgren and Trouba good solid dmen.
Lafreniere, Z, Panarin studs up front (assuming Panarin is back). Other good players as well.
Vezina winning goalie.

Go get a # 2 C and let's go after it again with another year of experience, a positive playoff experience, and maybe another kid or two ready to complete the 3rd pair and 4th line.
 
Not as much as we need a # 2 C IMO. Move Panarin to RW, there is your R shot RW. # 2 C biggest need by far IMO. Weak down the middle isn't good. The one area our system doesn't have ready prospects.

As poorly as we played with one even strength goal in the last 4 games, we still lost twice on goals with less than 2 minutes left in the game, and once on a late 3rd period goal with less than 7 minutes left. Crazy stuff, and why this one stings, along with a 2-0 series/2-0 game 3 lead.

They let Tampa and more importantly Vasilevsky find their game. His record and numbers when eliminating opponents is unworldly.
 
Very true, but even with that being the case, it was still razor close. And the comeback can be yeah, but that is due to Igor, and I would say yes that is the point.

The NHL playoffs are so crazy for reasons just like that. We got outplayed pretty badly from 2-0 up in game 3 on, but again even still it took goals late in the 3rd period in 3 of the 4 TB wins for us to lose. We get a bounce, or take one to OT, maybe we are playing a game 7 despite being outplayed.

That is where their poise and experience showed. Hopefully next time we are in that situation, we'll be the experienced team with the poise to win these games against a quality opponent.
 
I thought the game like the series was poorly officiated but the opportunity was there. I would say that the Rangers are ahead of schedule and after 2 games had a very good chance of beating a great hockey team especially if they win 3x in a row. Strome was selfish to even lace up skates knowing he wasn't ok - guess he knew it was his last game. Gallant shouldn't have played him but seeing that the #1 line was a no show again it didn't matter. I thoroughly enjoyed this season, when your team has won one Cup the last 8 decades this is a good year. There was so much positive development for most of the youth. It will be interesting to see how Drury adjusts the roster for next year's run.
 
Same issue against Tampa as in the regular season. Couldn't score at even strength. It eventually finished their season. It's going to be a heck of an off season with cap issues and figuring out how to change that. Panarin if he wasn't hurt is a big problem in the playoffs. He can't be relied on at all.
 
The morning after when emotions aren't as high I can say it was obviously a great season. They lost to a championship team looking for their third straight cup. Game three is the tough pill to swallow but when looking at it realistically they couldn't do anything even strength to get that third goal. They couldn't put their put firmly on Tampa's throat. They waited to lose instead of playing to win. The rest is history and happened so quickly because after those two PP goals they had a garbage time goal, an impossible angle goal and a tying goal that lasted 21 seconds.

Credit to Tampa who found a way after not having a huge player in their lineup. Credit to their goalie who for as good as Igor is showed why he's the best big money goalie in the game right now.
 
Yup, it stings and the way we lost is very tough, but one even strength goal in 4 games just won't cut it. Even still this is the NHL playoffs in a nutshell:

Game 3 was decided by a Lightning winner at 19:18 of the third period. Game 5 was decided by a Lightning winner at 18:10 of the third period. Game 6 was decided by a Lightning winner at 13:28. Two-time champions understand how to win games.
 
We are close. Drury needs to finish off the team the right way. With the NHL playoffs being so difficult and tight, no guarantee we'll be back, but we can control finishing off this team with the right moves this summer, and Drury needs to get it done.
 
You would've thought that they would've learned not to have the worst shift after scoring a goal. You can't allow that chance 20 seconds after tying the game.
 
Also, Kreider had a great season and scored goals in the playoffs but instead of crying he should look in the mirror and hate how he played in this series. No grit and barely noticeable so many times. Never in front...never in the goalies face...never using his speed....disgraceful.
 
Honestly, their goalie didnt' show he was the best money goalie in the game. He was exposed blocker side high all series. He was barely tested after the second game of the series. Don't know what you were watching. If the goalies switched teams, Tampa would have won in 5 or less. The Rangers were completely incompetent at even strength. Vasilevskiy's goal in game 5 to Lindren was horrendous. Could have lost them the series if Strome could hit an open net. He's still a great goalie but he has a huge flaw in his game. Igor doesn't. Let's see if the Av's can expose it. I'm not optimistic their defense can but I've seen Makar and their forwards score an awful lot this season high blocker side.
 
He found his game after the two games and his numbers particularly when eliminating opponents speak for themselves. Do you really think the Rangers are the only team in 11 playoff series during their run to shoot high blocker side? Don't be foolish.
 
On the winning goal the Rangers got caught cheating with 4 guys in the Tampa zone. They always seem to have a problem with staying disciplined and managing things after a goal.

And Tampa had a guy cherry picking constantly in the series. The Rangers time and time again had awful shifts after scoring a goal. After tying it they needed a good defensive shift. It just wasn't to be.
 
Yeah, I do think they were the only team. It wasn't mentioned at all vs. Toronto or Florida. It wasn't mentioned at all in his previous 2 cup runs. If you listened to the announcers, from the moment they started realizing what the Rangers were doing, they were surprised. I've never heard it mentioned in any of the playoff series I've watched him play before this Rangers series. The Rangers happen to have a few players really good at hitting that shot. Zibanejad, Vatrano, Chytil when he gets time and Panarin if he ever shot the puck and didn't have his head up his ass. Colorado has some guys good at it to. It's their defense and goaltending that is the issue.
 
This run definitely got me back into watching Rangers hockey. Even though I watched about 10 regular season games this year I felt no different watching them in the playoffs like I did when I use to watch all 82 games. My focus and concentration for hockey is back too.

1. I liked the team and the players they added at the deadline.
2. The games were there for them to win but they blew them in typical ranger fashion.
3. They are young which is good.
4. Igor is for real.
5. They need to sign proven winners when the UFA market opens
6. LAF needs to play in top 6
7. They need to sign better depth guys. Tinordi, McKegg, Gautheir and Brodzinski suck.
8. Gallant should not have dressed Strome and benched Kakko
9. They need another Star player
10. They need a legit #2 center
11. Hajek, Lundkvist and Nemeth don’t fit in the future of this team
12. The 4th line did not score enough this postseason

It's funny, I totally forgot about Lundkvist. Between him and Robertson they should be able to complete the 3rd pair from within. Then between Chytil and Kakko they should be able to deal for the # 2 C we very badly need, and have needed for years. That is a must this summer. I am tired of being weak down the middle, and having a questionable # 2 C behind Z.

That's why I said he's the best big money goalie in the NHL. Those numbers are absurd.
 
A little deceiving mess as if he had the rangers D in front of him facing the point blank shots, breakaways and front of the net traffic that IGOR did he would have fared worse than Igor as we saw the first 2 games. The last 4 games Vasilinsky was drinking coffee and eating donuts in the nets.
 
Exactly Mel. He was barely tested in this series after game 2. His blocker side high is an enormous flaw. His reaction time in that spot is way below average. Tampa's defense simply denies teams from getting time to line that shot up.
 
Gallant's refusal to change up the game plan is very frustrating. Tampa changed things up after the first two games. The Rangers were content to bang their heads against the wall on their way to four straight loses.

Hadn't lost four straight all season. They picked a heck of a time for it.
 
Tampa is the best money team in the sport. That doesn't make Vasilevskiy the best money goalie. Look at Hank's career record in game 6's and 7's. Yet, he didn't have the best money team around him. Also, being a money goalie doesn't just mean game clinching games. That's a moronic way of looking at it. The year before in his series clinching games, he didn't face over 30 shots once. In game 7 vs. the Islanders he faced 22 shots and was alseep the entire game. In game 5 vs. the Habs he faced 18 shots. Please. Shesterkin faces that in a period some times.

Here are the shot numbers Shesterkin faced in his playoff games. Two he got pulled. 83, 41, 15, 30, 32, 34, 42, 26, 21, 44, 31, 34, 39, 39, 39, 31, 52, 30, 26, 31.


If you think Vasilevskiy would have any of the numbers he has especially in game clinching games facing those shot totals, you're on fucking crack. Now this playoffs he has been busier. However, the Florida series was deceiving. They had a ton of shots but they were very poor quality and most were all from the outside. The quality of shot that Shesterkin faces is often absurd because of youth mistakes on defense or the lack of a better defensive system.
 
I don't see what Gallant can do or adjust if his marquis players not named Igor are not making an effort. The Rangers looked gassed after game 3, which I would expect from a team with their youth and inexperience but they did have the Bolts on the ropes for a little while. The Rangers took a page from TB this year adding grit, years past Stamkos and company would dominate the regular season only to get bullied out of the playoffs. That's why they are so tough now, their 3rd and 4th lines bring it every shift. I don't think the Rangers will move any player with a NMC. The guy I would use for a premier C is Fox. Unless he starts going to the Tony D school of toughness his body will not withstand the constant beating. He's the type of player the Rangers need to put in a deal for another #1C.
 
It would make sense if this was Vasilevsky's first trip to the finals. He's going for the third straight time what we want the Rangers to do once.
 
This Vas stuff is funny. Guy has won 2 straight cups, is off to another SCF, and has sick numbers in big games. Now all of the sudden the Rangers found something, and he is nothing special. Good stuff. And yes shocker every goalie needs support, that is not a knock on Vas, that is a credit to the TB team. No goalie can win alone, with no O, or no D.
 
Who gives a fuck. Maroon is going to the finals for the 4th time in a row. Chris Osgood won multiple cups with Detroit. He sucked as a goalie until he was on a powerful team. Matt Murray went to the finals twice and won with Pitt. Now he can't even hold a starting job. Watch what Vasilevskiy does when age finally catches Hedman and McDonagh. Hedman is 30, McDonagh is 32. Both with a ton of hockey. When they lose a step his defense won't be allowing poor quality shots in the majority of his game. Then we'll see how money he is.

What the hell is even your argument? That's he's not one of the best in the league or a big game goalie? Who would argue that right now? It would be like trying to say right now Steph Curry isn't the best shooter in the NBA.
