I take this W.
Wish we have coach, to play more players and rest Dame now, but I take this W.

This was a good win but we still can't get comfortable. Still a tough schedule ahead.

Postgame Notes – May 7, 2021
Portland 106, L.A. Lakers 101
Game No. 67, Home Game No. 33

TEAM
• Portland was 20-of-21 (95.2%) from the FT line, while the Lakers were 16-of-22 (72.7%) from the stripe. It was the seventh time this season that Portland shot 95% or better from the line.
• The Trail Blazers handed out 22 assists to 19 for the Lakers. It was Portland’s 11th consecutive game recording at least 20 assists, marking the team’s longest streak of the season.
• Portland committed just nine turnovers, while Los Angeles gave away possession 14 times. Portland has now logged 24 games with single-digit turnovers this season, the most such games in the NBA.
• The Trail Blazers outscored the Lakers 42-38 in the paint, despite taking eight fewer two-point attempts on the night.

PLAYER
• Damian Lillard led Portland with 38 points (12-18 FG, 5-9 3-PT, 9-9 FT), four rebounds, seven assists and two steals. It was his third straight game with 30-plus points and his 31st game on the season.
• CJ McCollum added 21 points (7-19 FG, 2-7 3-PT, 5-6 FT), three rebounds, four assists and one steal. McCollum has scored at least 20 points in both of his games against the Lakers this season.
• Norman Powell finished with 19 points (6-18 FG, 3-8 3-PT, 4-4 FT), two rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block. It was Powell’s fifth consecutive game scoring in double figures.
• Jusuf Nurkic had 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor to go with 13 rebounds, five assists and one steal. It was his fourth double-double in the last five games.
• Enes Kanter had 10 points (4-8 FG, 2-2 FT) and 10 rebounds in 17 minutes off the bench. It was his 33rd double-double of the season, tied for the 10th-most in the league.
• Robert Covington had three points (1-7 3-PT), eight rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in 38 minutes.
• Anthony Davis led the Lakers with 36 points (12-23 FG, 2-3 3-PT, 10-15 FT), 12 rebounds, five assists and one block. It was his second game of the season with at least 30 points and 10 rebounds.
• Alex Caruso added a season-high 18 points (8-15 FG, 2-2 3-PT), to go with six boards and two assists. His six rebounds also tied a season-high (four times).
• Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had 17 points (5-9 FG, 1-4 3-PT, 6-7 FT), four rebounds, five assists and one block in 38 minutes.

Watching Powell tonight he really needs to slow down at times out of control on offense.

With the standings as they are, it would not surprise me to see Utah, Phoenix, AND Denver all resting dudes in our games remaining. They all might have nothing left to play for.

That leaves the Spurs tomorrow and a tanking Houston on the schedule.

Need to wait and see how this plays out for the other teams, but we MIGHT be OK.

My guess is the Suns/Jazz are going to assume the Lakers are likely to be the 7 seed and will win the first play-in game. That should give them plenty of motivation to go for the #1 overall seed to avoid them in the 1st round.

Best case scenario is in my opinion is we head into the last night with the 6th seed locked up, Denver is 0.5 games back of the LAC, and we let them win, allowing us to match up with Denver in the 3/6 matchup.

Just glanced at our remaining schedule.

vs LAL
vs SAS (b2b)
day off
vs HOU
day off
@UTA
@PHX (b2b)
2 days off
vs DEN

Can legit lose every game, except maybe vs Houston.
I don’t get you guys.... smh

Yes, they will rest and tank for the Blazers just to push the Lakers to play in games

As for poll. Year after year posters here calming down other people in January: "it's just one game" and year after year we play "most important games" just before playoffs, while top teams can rest their stars. This is so stupid, it hurts.
2 years ago, we rested our stars on closing night.

Montrezl Harrell has gone from 6th Man of the Year to DNP-CDs. He’s getting the “Can’t Play Kanter” treatment.

Solid win!

ill admit. I thought the 10% thing would be great for the players but i downplayed the fan experience. After watching the game, im wishing id have went.
A crowded, loud house is just awesome energy, but i didnt think 10% would make a dent.

Id say the 10%ers brought it because it sounded loud. Could here the mvp chants and all.

Portland DOES have the best fans in the NBA.
Way to represent!!!!

Roller coaster game. Needed that win. It's pretty much a forgone conclusion the Blazers will shoot poorly on their first game back after a long road trip. I'm pretty happy they found a way to win this. Seemed like the Calls were favoring the Lakers a bit and the only way the Blazers were going to win that game was to keep it out of the Refs hands which they did.
One thing i was thinking is that the Lakers if healthy are still the odds on Favorites to win any series except perhaps the Nets?
LeBron, Davis, Shroeder, Gasol, Drummond, Kuzma, Coruso, Morris, Caldwell-Pope, Mathews, Mclemore. That is 11 players that would get minutes playing for the Blazers right now. I didn't even add Harrell who would be playing as well.
The Lakers are deep and nobody wants to draw them in the first round.

Don't really like our schedule vs. the Lakers schedule here on out.

He made a costly mistake by taking a short-term discount to play with the Lakers; his value might be resetting. We'll find out this summer.

If we can win our next 2 and the Lakers lose to Phoenix, the magic number for the 6 seed would be 1 game: The Lakers would be in a position where they have to win out from there and we'd have to lose our last 3. Sure that's possible given the schedule, but I'd rather be in our shoes than theirs.

It's a real luxury that we have two centers capable of double doubles every night. This is two consecutive games both did it. As for Covington's shooting, I have noticed he shoots better with a guy fairly close to him; I hope teams don't continue to keep letting him be wide open.

I view these last games as either a sharpening of the team to make noise in the playoffs or a bow out for change.
This team under Dames leadership has always used adversity as a way to improve team fortitude.
Would surprise me to seem them get to the second round if they remain healthy.

Win is a win...but barely scraping by the Lakers without their best player and another of their top 5 wasn't exactly inspiring. Was hoping for a smackdown. Win is a win, but they need to build on this and play better.

I decided to try to confirm my eye test (because I know @Tince would want me to) and I'm basically right but it's not a big difference: 24% on 3 pt shots guarded very tightly, 41.9 % on 3 pt shots when defender 4-6 feet away, and 38.7% when wide open.

(Good) Data > Gut Feel... nice work!

Now for the next question? Why?

Mental?
Change in mechanics?
Small sample size?

Great find!

good question. No way they could take Roco, as bad as he was shooting, cuz who else could guard Davis. I don't know, Powell or CJ?

Roco's shooting wasn't the worst part of his play down the stretch, though. Besides the badly missed corner 3 and the missed ... I don't know, was it supposed to be a dunk ... there was the time he had an easy offensive rebound with a minute to go and should have just grabbed it to run clock but instead tried batting it, and then he was fouling on defense.

In hindsight, it would have been better to play Melo. Admittedly, that's hindsight, and with a 10-point lead going down the stretch Roco usually is the appropriate play. He just makes at least one frustratingly stupid play each game, and he had about four games worth of those in the last 4 minutes last night and it would have cost us if we haven't opened up the lead just before.
