One of the big things that has changed sense the break is Crabbe is having some sets ran for him in the game..
He's not just getting looks within "the flow" of the offense.
He's being more used like Redick/Thompson in terms of running off screens.
When he's rolling like tonight it's even more noticeable that Portland is running sets specifically designed for Crabbe to work off the ball.

Granted after Crabbe got his last open look from the top. Minn did a good job staying connected to him the rest of the way.
Portland still ran specific sets for Crabbe, but the offense bogged down.
Kudos for Stotts for making in-games adjustments.
Though I will say, if Harkless doesn't start showing up. He's going to lose his starting spot to Turner.
Yeah. The thong about Crabbe is if he's denied it shouldn't bog down. Pin downs and curls are quick and should be a small part of a much larger set.

He shouldn't get the passed the ball unless he can get a shot off the catch. With that, he knows that he has no defender to worry about if he gets a pass. If he's guarded tight, then keep running whatever designed play, as that action for Crabbe should only take 3 seconds or so. I think they do this, but need to incorporate it in more of their sets.

Nutjobs! 85% of you! Dame haters, season over, we suck...... then you forget you all posted that trash and try to act like you saw this coming giving our guys props for the win. Some roller coaster up and down riding motherfuckers on here. Stand by your team! #BandWagonLife

Cmon, HCP....Let them get excited.

We struggled to beat a shitty ass team at home. Playoffs here we come.

As for Dame....7 for 21 and 1 for 9 from 3....BUT....9 rebounds and 8 assists makes him awesome.

Our season has been over since day 1. We have under achieved all year. Nurk breathed life into this team, but at best we were playoff fodder as an 8th seed.

Yep; his season average is 8.1 FGA, but since the break it's 8.6 FGA. He is getting more opportunities, and 8-10 FGA seems to be a real sweet spot for him and the team.

Great win last night. But I'm a little afraid of what it will mean if we make the playoffs. I really want to see Nurk play since I think we have a chance against anybody with him, but I'm also worried about his health. What to do, what to do?

Exactly! Our sets are literally designed for a single outcome - if the defense reads the play, it dies. Sets need to be designed with 3+ possible outcomes so that the defense can't take every option away so easily.

23 wins tops
That's played out FAMS..... I think I said 46 this season. Let that marinate for a sec.....I think I might finish closer than all you chumps. At least I didn't look at this roster and say 64 fucking wins!

Who did?

none of us did.....Nurk has changed the roster a tad homeslice.....the Plumlee predictions are so pre allstar game

IIRC Nurk has us on a 60 win projection when he plays
I stand corrected then. I didn't see that we were adding Nurk at the trade deadline. I would have definitely put down more wins then. Since we are on the topic, do you know who we are drafting or trading for NEXT season? Shit, might as well save me some time and tell me how The Walking Dead ends to FAMS.

Well, we obviously are gonna draft Fultz and trade for LeBron next season... DRINK IT IN FAMS

Liabilities don't make the plays he makes on defense, since you know, they are liabilities.

The word here is inconsistent.

A stopped clock is right twice a day.

All this tells me is that he's perfect where he is as our sixth man. Dude is shooting 44.2% from three after tonight; that's 3rd best in the NBA. Your defense would look suspect too if you had Meyers Leonard as your center.

So then by your logic Lillard's OTB Defense is because of Meyers? Crabbe has to stay in front of his man. Not Meyers.

Vonleh fought his fucking ass off on the boards, going up against bigger dudes. He's growing before our eyes.
That was my big takeaway from this game. Vonleh fought like hell all night, but he was just out reached by the Minny bigs. You gotta give him tons of credit for keeping at it and never giving up. Put Nurk next to him and with that kind of effort he's going to be ok. Nards was on the court in the fourth when the Blazers took over the game though, and it showed that all we were missing all game long was a legit center.

Leonard played decent in the second half, I'll give him that.

You know this, so I hope you're just playing dumb, but defense is a five-person game all the time. If one or more of your players are major liabilities, that means the other players have to defend in more risky ways to prevent the offense from exploiting the bad defender.

In our case, Meyers is one of the worst guard/wing drive defenders I've ever seen. He's a decent post defender when he can use his weight to prevent a guy from posting up effectively, but when a guard drives at him, he jumps backwards to avoid fouling, or fouls. It's bad news, and offenses know this. So what you get, instead of a lot of east/west movement or ball movement, you get a lot of north/south movement against our guards. Yes, keep your man in front of you, but when the offense is always attacking because your center is shit against drives, it's harder to do; you foul more, or you try for steals before the drive more to help your team. Risky behaviors.

A quality drive defender like Nurkic makes offenses think twice about north/south driving, letting a defender move laterally with the offensive player as they try to figure out the best way to attack. Meyers is like a neon light that says "DRIVE THRU ALWAYS OPEN".

I'm not saying Crabbe will suddenly turn into Bruce Bowen with Tyson Chandler behind him, but he'd certainly look better overall without having to force so much. Kind of like because our offense is good, he doesn't force shots.
