I think certain posters (and it is more than one, though one in particular is certainly the reason I'm making this post) have chosen to make emotional stands on certain players. You can engage them if you want, but it will only lead to frustration on both sides. As someone (who's name is not coming to me) once observed, you can't be reasoned out of a position that you weren't reasoned into.

I think we should bear that in mind. Instead of getting progressively more heated, it's better to understand that sometimes the two sides aren't really arguing within the same framework (whether that's logic, emotion, wish-casting, etc) and let it go. Argue with someone who's willing to engage you in the same argumentative framework you're using.

That's just a suggestion, of course. You are free to argue with whomever you want, in any way you want (barring personal attacks). This may just circumvent some of the anger and frustration. ;)

I agree that it is unacceptable on this board for one poster to talk about another's illness; one does not give up their privacy just by virtue of posting here.

Personally, I agree that bringing up a personal issue/problem isn't productive, but I don't think that this is a privacy issue. The reason that particular issue was known to the board was because KingSpeed chose to mention it before, publicly on the forum. So, I don't think his privacy is being invaded...but it's probably not the best thing to use it against him.

You are right; it's really deeper than privacy; it's when someone is courageous enough to reveal something personal, it's just not nice to later throw it back out there in a criticizing manner.

why is it that with every single game regardless of result there has to be a meltdown of some sort with this board?

I personally consider it to be akin to making fun of someone because they didn't go to college or because they are missing their left hand... pretty uncool and lacking in class.

It's true that people with college degrees tend to have read and written more than people who do not, and it's true that people without left hands often type more slowly (and therefore might be more terse in their writing style)... but pointing that out strikes me as crass.

Similarly, if KingSpeed has revealed emotional issues in the past, there's simply no reason to ascribe a weakness of logic or temperament to it now is weak sauce. Especially given how often all of us, at one time or another, get emotional about stuff.

I just don't get why someone would bother making a comment about another persons disability. It's not funny, it's not needed, and it has nothing to do with anything.

Exactly. Thank you.

maybe this thread should be locked?

I don't think that's needed. Hopefully, people will just chill out. We're all on edge over this loss and...

...what's that? Portland won? Well, that's great!

+1

He suggested Joel had a better game than Oden - wow, what a heretic! :inquisition:

I don't simply expect us to win 67 games, I expect the wins to be by double-digits to count.

We're 0-1 by my reckoning thanks to a fourth quarter collapse.

I apologized. I was an asshole and crossed a line.

I love when Martell goes backdoor!

Had a great time at the game! Was a bit sloppy, but for the first game of the season I'm more than happy with the results.

I'm glad I'm too busy too read these game threads! I'm scared to think of what this place would have looked like if we lost tonight!!!!

My take on the game.

Houston is a scrapy team and they play very good defense. They are seriously challenged on the offensive end.

Oden had 7 turnovers, sure, but nobody seems to have mentioned LMA had 4 and Joel had 3. Either it's bigs with stone hands or there were quick hands on defense (the latter, I think).

In the first half, it looked like Oden is finally able to stay on the court without getting into foul trouble. He finished the game with 5 fouls and had to sit much of Q4 with those 5. Rockets made a furious comeback during that time. The rockets deserve some credit for getting LMA (also 5 PF) and Joel (fouled out) into foul trouble.

Blake isn't out there to run the team, he's out there to be a 3pt threat. When Miller wasn't out there, it sure looks like Roy is the PG.

Blazers played a lot of the 3 guard lineup. Houston played two quick PGs at the same time.

All summer, I read posts about giving Outlaw away as filler for some superstar or another. All pre-season, it seemed he was the forgotten man, a guy taking up a roster spot destined for spot minutes. The game last night made it rather obvious that he's quite valuable to the team as a scorer, and the Blazers do need his scoring.

I had no problem with Nate's rotations or substitution patterns. What was weird was that the Rockets went on a tear and Nate didn't call any timeouts.

Wow, for a Bulls fan i'm very impressed.

Did you find a link for the game through the link you gave me? If not, you didn't help. As if you didn't ask for help regarding your abused child? Instead of asking for help on the board, you should have been calling a lawyer right? No need to be a douche.

You know what? That is pretty classless for you to bring up my 1 year old sons child abuse and compare it to your inability to find a streaming link on NBA.com.

I had a big post written up flaming you, but it is not worth it. I deleted it. I actually am hurt that you said what you said.

I will be ignoring your posts now. I think that was a very mean spirited thing to say about my little boy. I do not like what you said.

Good day to you.

Wow, I'm really glad you pulled out of it.

Sometimes in order to turn things around we have to find our inner John Nash, and fire him.

barfo

Profound use of metaphor. Maybe the best thing that can be said of that era.

If you find it upsetting that people would say something that upsets you just to upset you, perhaps you should consider how your posts are affecting others in perhaps a similar way?

OH please. There is a big difference between debating a game and personal baiting of someone's illness. KingSpeed should NOT have to defend himself against this shit.
