GAME THREAD: Round 1, Game 2 - Blazers @ Mavericks, 4.19.11, 6:30 PM

Everyone acts like they had an advantage with the threes but we shot 7 of 14 from the arc. They shot 8 of 19. We had Camby and Miller making threes. We were the one getting lucky. Not them. Our free throw shooting is what killed us. Why complain about foull shots if you're not gonna make them?

No I won't expect it.

The Mavs are the king of choking.

Deal with it.

Yeah, they choked BIG time in the game tonight.

They've lived pretty well by the 3 all season. I don't think they're dying anytime soon.

They live pretty well from the 3 every season. They win 50+ games every year.

Come playoff time, though, they start dying by it. It will start happening soon enough.

The Mavericks are the kings of choking.

Dallas has not impressed me at all. This is the weakest Dallas team I've seen in a decade.

Having no backup big men, and being obligated to let Roy take the court are the reasons we have lost so far.

The Mavericks are shooting 47% from 3 so far this series. This is the one thing that is saving them. It's 10% higher than their regular season average.

Regression to the mean is coming. Dallas will die by the 3, just like they always do.

Game 7 here we come.

Series over, The Blazer aren't just getting beat, they have no control over tempo.

This team doesn't win a series until Andre Miller is gone.

Brandon only played 5 minutes.

If Portlands goal is to wait for Dallas to "die by the three", they've already lost the series.

Make Dallas adjust to you, not the other way around. Why didn't Nic play more?

Why don't they man up and actually fucking play defense on Barea? I swear, he gets so many open lanes to the hoop, you'd think he was R-Rose.

Want to dig up that little old stat about how many teams have gone on to win the series after taking games 1 and 2?

Here's a stat- the last time the Mavs led a playoff series 2-0 was in the 2006 NBA Finals. Remember what happened that time?

And 76% of teams who win game 1 usually win the series, and the Blazers won game 1 last year. Still lost.

These are two even teams so it doesn't mean as much. All Dallas has done so far is do what they're supposed to do - win at home. Now it's Portland's turn. Once it's 2-2 I'm sure we'll have a nice chat about the team that wins game 5 in a series that's tied 2-2 has a great chance at winning the series.

Plenty of time left for Dallas to choke and start dying by the 3. It's the main reason they're up 2-0 right now.

Portland doesn't have a D-Wade on their team, or the glamor of being the chosen franchise. Hell, they don't even have a Shaq type player.

Yeah, the refs handed the series to Miami. For some reason, I will not be expecting the same. That said, it's certainly possible to win this series - we were down 0-3 to a better Dallas team and forced a game 7 in 2003.

This squad lacks a leader. Andre Miller hasn't won a 1st round series in his career for a reason. Hitching our playoff fortunes to him was a dire mistake.

Trading Miller/Camby/Batum is the only hope for this team to sniff the 2nd round.

Reffing stuff aside, the Blazers just aren't a very good shooting team and against a team like Dallas that is going to be almost insurmountable.

Next game the Blazers lose I can already hear Mike Rice:

"We have the big guy waiting in the wings! Next year, Blazer fans!"

Well I had Dallas in five and God I hope i'm wrong... I just don't see it.

Game 3 is a must win.

For Once i totally disagree with you....

Without miller, we would have lost by > 20 both games

This was disappointing and reduces our chances of winning the series greatly. The only hope I see is if we have knock out games against them @ home & ride that into Game 5, taking that one on the road, then finishing the series in Game 6 at home. Basically winning 4 straight. If we don't win Game 5 then I think we're toast.

The sad part about this loss was how pathetic we looked in the 4th, especially near the end. We had no clue who to pass to, who should take the shot. We weren't getting inside. On the defense we were scattered like mice all over the court. We looked like a team who's setting themselves up to be blown out. Sad... Sad..

Team that wins the first game on the road will win the series. Series is far from over.

We know Portland can beat this team. Let's not pretend the Mavs are a juggernaut now.

Only problem is the Mavs don't have to win any road games to win the series...

Then it will go 7 and will come down to one game

I'll take that. I know Portland can beat this Dallas team.

Nonetheless, Matthews scored 13 points on better than 50% shooting. How is that playing like crap?

What did he do in the second half? He's been below his season average for two games, and he's not rebounding or assisting.

He's been TERRIBLE, outside of a 2 minute stretch in the first half, where he still forgot to close out on Peja.

Up you game, Wes!
