But it’s still probably a 4th seed at best and we still don’t have a legit second star unless Ant or Grant decide to pop off.

Giving up the pick is a mistake, which would be even worse if OG misses time with any kind of injury.

Does this mean you would not be happy with the fourth seed after this last season?
Can you come up with ANY realistic way to become better than a four seed next year?

Your expectations are going lead you to perpetual agony sir!

I really think Grant, OG, and a good veteran with the MLE makes the Blazers a very competitive team. Re-sign Nurkic and Simons and keep Ingles. With a new focus on defense and Lillard coming back at his best, I'm getting excited.

You think we will be higher than a fourth seed if we draft someone instead of trading it?!
That’s not at all the point. If we mortgage our future for a 4th seed, and our pick goes to Chicago next summer, how do we get better?

OR we keep the pick, we draft BPA and maybe we have another Allstar in a couple years instead of a role player right now.

We don't have OG yet and if we get him it has to be without giving up any rotational players. If that happens I’m in that excited seat with you.
Well… not literally, because that isn't my thing, but.. you know!

Sorry but I’m not at all interested in climbing back on the Neil Olshey treadmill of mediocrity. You guys are thinking so short term and it’s maddening.

Nas and Ant are both under 22 aren't they? Basically four year college draftees? Why wouldn't they be considered the future? Our are you speaking of purely a financial standpoint?

I agree. I don't want to see Nas or Hart going over to Toronto.

I could see Portland moving Bledsoe and Ingles..but I want to keep Ingles too. The 7th itself is already too much for OG.

If all we care about is next season, we should try trading for a player that would cost more than the 7th pick. Jimmy Butler? Someone like that.

Maybe it would look better as

Dame/Simons/Keon
Hart/Ingles/Mclemore
Grant/Winslow
OG /Nas/Watford
Nurkic /Eubanks
I’d still be worried about that bench. I’d rather start Nas at this point, the trade down and get assets with #12 for #7 and draft Sochan. As much as I like Watford, he cannot be our backup PF. Eubanks was a nice little story, my friend went to Reynolds with him, but he shouldn’t even be on the team next year. Ingles isn’t a two guard.

Nas isn’t a 4. Continuing to play PF is going to be the reason he gets more injuries.

Not a big fan. I like Jimmy and would bring him in as a FA, but giving up any assets could end up being disastrous.

Grant went from being young and very promising to being the best player on the worst team... so I don't think his full potential has been realized because he was like the only guy on that Pistons team that could score. Let him get some run being the second option in an offense that has a brilliant third option in Ant, then judge if he's a meh addition. If you're saying that we're thinking short term because we're excited about OG... the dude is 24 so he also has some more to show.

Duh. Who had those expectations? Piston fans. Just like the huge expectations Blazer fans had for trading CJ.
Someone said Cronin will trade the 7th pick for Grant, while he got a future 1st round pick for CJ.
I said that didn't make sense. Logically Cronin would obtain Grant for something like the future 1st round pick we got for CJ.
edit: Then that actually happened with the same draft pick.

Fourth seed is mediocre? Yes, your maddening will be perpetual if your expectations aren't quelled a bit.
There isn't one person here on this board who would not want us to be better than the four seed. There isn't a person on this board who would not want a ring next year or two.
But there are a few who live in a major pool of negativity because we aren't the number one seed every year. This is an internal behavior every individual has control of.
Its up to each individual to determine if life is better, constantly being disappointed and seeing everything as maddening, or stopping to actually find some positive in the moment.

A start would be realizing the fourth seed gets a punchers chance to win it all and is a top four of 15-16 teams?
Far from mediocrity unless one has trained themselves to see everything as glass half empty.

Nas is such a question at this point that I don’t think you can safely count him. The guy can’t stay healthy. I hope he works out but he’s like a bonus.

Ant has a lot of potential, but we need a bonafide second star and this is probably our last chance at a high lottery pick until Dame leaves, whenever that might be.

Plus, no stupid Olympics this summer, so injuries will actually heal instead of getting worse for no good reason.

Fair enough. I just see PG type potential from Nas if he can just stay on the court.

There’s reality and there’s dreamland.

We are facing down the barrel of our two best players being short scoring guards who don’t play defense.

Gee….. where have I seen that before. Yes, OG and Grant would be upgrades over what we have had in the past, but the design is flawed at the foundation. It’s the same damn thing we have sat through for the past six years. We have watched it over and over and over.

Adding OG and Grant will make us just good enough to make the playoffs and maybe make the second round, but not good enough to contend. Sorry I’m not interested in that.

We need a legit second star. If not the draft, how do you propose we get that before Dames prime is over?

Late to the game! Best first step on the court!

Some people actually work..... so if you're bragging about mere seconds, you missed mentioning his better-known uncle:

Jerami's uncle is 4-time NBA Champion, former teammate of one Michael Jordan, Horace Grant (who has far more accolades than Jerami's father, Harvey, whom the Blazers acquired for Kevin "what's a duck worth", Duckworth).

That's not a fact. If you think that Ant will be worse next to Dame than CJ was then I could see that stance. If you think Ant will be as good or better than CJ was next to Dame, you have to think we have a higher ceiling than we've ever had with Dame. OG and Grant are better than any forward Dame has played with since LaMarcus.

I guess we will see.

But they aren't close to Lamarcus at all.

I wonder if the people who want us to trade the pick were against keeping the pick in 2012 and wanted to trade the sixth pick for a veteran.

That was a veteran team. Did they need a rookie?
