A bolt-action rifle for home defense? ??? sigh. (bolt action rifles are long and difficult to handle in a home setting. Also, they are very challenging to operate load a backup round quickly. Also, most bolt action rifles are either 22s, which wouldn't stop anyone, or hunting rifles, which would instantly deafen your entire family) How about a baseball bat?

Tell you what, how about you do a bit of homework. Don't trust me, but do some research. Look up ex-Navy seals or other special forces guys. There is lots of information out there. When you do, see what the consensus is for best weapon for home defense.

(spoiler alert: don't read below if want to be surprised)

First: education:
1) "automatic" weapons (machine guns) are essentially illegal in the entire U.S. with the exception of some with special permits.
2) "automatic pistols" are really semi-automatic pistols. The "automatic" part her refers to them loading the next round by themselves.
3) "Assault rifle" is a hunting rifle with a pistol grip. A standard hunting rifle fires in the same way, it just has a different grip.
4) "AR-15" does not stand for "assault rifle 15". Look it up.
5) "Silencer": they don't exist. Nothing can make a gun silent. A "suppressor" reduces the volume of a gun from 100% to about the level of a jet engine at take off. Just enough so that you don't deafen the shooter and his family. Did you know there are several physician's groups who are trying to get national allowance of suppressors to protect hearing? The only reason it hasn't passed is the Hollywood crowd and ignorant big city liberals really believe what they see in the movies is real.

Having said that, the best home defense weapon is actually the trusty AR-15 with a suppressor. It is substantially more accurate than any pistol (don't argue if you haven't shot both), doesn't deafen your family, doesn't over-shoot as the bullet tumbles when it hits its first object (pistol rounds penetrate more, look for video demonstrations).

And, to your original question, the State of California, and almost every Democratic Senator I have heard speak if they had the chance. So for the Supreme Court is the only thing that has held California back. And yes, they have recently attacked "assault rifles" again--so, I removed my pistol grip so it is no longer an "assault rifle". I'm sure it is much safer now that it doesn't have the pistol grip.

So yes, I do not want uneducated politicians who don't even know what an automatic pistol is or what AR stands for writing laws on guns that have no effect on crime, but make it harder for decent people to defend themselves from those criminals.

I had a roommate that was a Ranger officer and two neighbors that were ex Rangers. They all possessed handguns. None of them had an AR15 similar to an assault rifle.

I've got a shotgun for hunting fowl which I presume would work well against the 1 in 25 million home invader threatening my life in a home invasion. Actually, I've no need for a firearm to protect myself. Of course, I've chosen to live in a safe neighborhood, which I've been able to do, by working hard in school and working equally hard at my jobs.

I would say if you don't want your home invaded:

1. Don't deal in drugs;
2. When you have the means to possess stuff that others would want to steal, try using that savings to move to a better neighborhood;
3. If you can't move to a better neighborhood, you better not buy stuff that bad guys would want to steal like guns;
4. Tell you wife, mother, sister, other female loved one to keep the windows and doors locked at night in the Summer.

That's what victims and cowards do.

That's what the Jews did when Hitler came for them.

Better to just kill anyone who invades your home, attempts to harm your family or steal your possessions.

Then another dozen or so good honest people will also be saved from being victims also.

Sounds like fear to me. That's the reason people own guns.

Fear.

Fear is the reason people play the victim, blame their shortcomings on racism, join gangs, spout racial pride, criticize everybody who seems to have a better, more fulfilling life...

You are the avatar of fear.

LOL

I'm guessing someone's paranoid.

Convicted felon shot, killed by homeowner during Tennessee home invasion

Terry Adams Jr., 27, was fatally shot by a homeowner in Nashville, Tennessee, on Wednesday night after he allegedly attempted to rob the home. (Metro Nashville Police Department)

An attempted robbery of a Tennessee home Wednesday night turned deadly when the homeowner fatally shot one of the alleged robbers, who was a convicted felon.

Terry Adams, Jr., 27, died Wednesday night in Nashville during a home invasion, the Metro Nashville Police Department said in a news release.

Adams, along with another robber who remains at large, allegedly entered the home of 43-year-old Brent Bishop through a back door and hit his wife in the face.

Bishop, according to police, saw the rear door was open and went to the kitchen, before then being "struck on the head with a blunt object." The man was ordered to hand over "three long guns and a pistol" from a safe, which the robbers left with.

Looking for his wife -- who had fled to a neighbor's house -- Bishop got a pistol from another room and went outside to look for her when he once again met Adams and his partner.

Police said that Bishop fired shots at the two, "fatally wounding Adams." The second robber "dropped the long guns and the pistol that had been taken from the safe and ran away."

Adams, who's had convictions of auto burglary, attempted burglary, felony theft and aggravated assault, is a suspect in a Feb. 6 burglary at Bishop's home, in which a flat screen TV was stolen.

The now-deceased robber had been arrested in July 2017 for felony meth possession for resale and unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon and was being sought by authorities for two probation violation warrants.

Bishop was hospitalized with a skull fracture from the incident. The second robber who fled the scene remains at large.

Please show me where it shows Special Forces training as a requirement. I think they've got their hands full with other duties or so I've been told.

My roommate told me that Airborne training was a walk in the park compared with Ranger training. He and a couple buddies went through Ranger training before they went through Airborne training and it was so easy that they use to slip out at night to go drinking. So, nope, Airborne training does not qualify as Special Forces training.

I'm not even sure what you're talking about.....

Psyops and Airborne are two totally different things...... in fact, according to that link they require a 107 on the ASVAB. Very few Rangers would probably qualify for this MOS.

Okay, that's one in 330 Million and I'm not even sure he threatened the homeowner's life. However, shooting the SOB, may not have been such a bad thing. I'd have to read that lengthy rag.

Did you forget your post about Navy Seals engaging in trolling, which you referred to as psychological warfare in response to barfo?

"Navy Seals are trained to troll?"

barfo

"It's called psychological warfare. The military loves that shit."

That was your response to barfo.

I think you're taking things a little too literal. Barfo was being funny, and I was chiming in.

You don't need to make every little thing into a debate.

Also, the Navy SEALs would shit all over the Airborne Rangers. They're not even remotely in the same class. The closest thing that the Army has to offer is Delta, and Delta comes from all over the Army.

Just not true. Originally it was Rangers that were supposed to get Osama. They were busy engaged with other targets.

Delta Force has Rangers and Seals in it.

They are roughly equivalent.

Taking things literally - I guess that's why I wouldn't trust Trump as far as I could throw him. He says one thing one day and then changes his mind and says another thing the next day even while claiming he was just kidding in the first place.

Unless it's spelled out, how does one really tell if someone else is kidding. I guess that's why most folds use the 'J/K' nomenclature.

better home defense weapon would be an MK 16 right?

Anything short, accurate and not too loud is best. Living in California, I don't really have that option, so .45 or shotgun are my only reasonable choices if I don't want a deaf family.

That's a nice thought, but both the home invasion murders that happened in my area fit none of those descriptions. I have no problem with you choosing to take your chances. Luck favors the prepared. All I ask is that you don't try and prevent law abiding citizens to choose otherwise. And not everyone has a choice of what kind of neighborhood they can afford.

Then eliminating assault rifles would 't affect you.
