Good for Meyers but he pretty much only got that contract for trade purposes.

That doesn’t make any sense if he’s not seen as an asset. Explain yourself further, please. Weren’t you wondering a few weeks ago is Meyers would even be in the NBA this season? If so, have you already moved those goalposts to now he got $10 million a year for trade purposes?

unlike Leonard, Jones got a player option. That wouldn’t work as well in a trade as Leonard’s structure.

What’s the difference unless the team Leonard is traded to actually values his second year on the contract?

You’re just making things up now. In what world is a player option better in a trade than knowing there is no player option?

reading is hard huh?

By the way, Meyers basically can’t be traded this season. Are you just going to continue to make things up to support your lame take?

▪ If the Heat decided to trade Goran Dragic (highly unlikely) or Meyers Leonard before the trade deadline this season, Miami would need their approval because of a rule in the collective bargaining agreement that requires trade consent from a player who re-signs with his previous team on a one-year contract – or a two-year deal with an option year.

Dragic and Leonard received one year deals with a second-year team option.

ya think that’ll come in handy in a loaded FA class? Or do you actually believe he got payed for his play?

So you think Meyers got a $10 million contract with a no trade clause purely so he can be paid another big contract in a future free agent offseason sign and trade? That's a stretch.

The Heat started Meyers for most of the season, do you think that was also just for future free agent trades?

The Heat didn't do the same contracts for Crowder or DJJ. They have other players (Dragic, Haslem, Iggy, Olynick) who could all similar to Meyers match salaries in trades if ever needed.

People act like the Heat have never made a mistake, they gave Dion Waiters a huge contract.

He's not, that's the only reason he got paid that much.

Miami, and Meyers, are in a unique situation. The Heat have Adebayo at C. He's one of those big men with the defensive skills of a SF. H can go out on the perimeter and defend well. And he's good at attacking the rim. With Butler and Adebayo on the floor, the heat will need floor spacing. Meyers can provide that. And because of the different skills of Bam and Meyers, they actually fit together much better than a Nurk and Meyers. It was always frustrating to watch Portland try and play Meyers as a PF. That forced either Nurkic or Davis to go out on the perimeter and defend PF's because Meyers wasn't capable.

Meyers will be a situational big man (duh). And he's competent enough (now) and big enough to be the only Heat big man on the floor when another team is going with a traditional C. Meyers does a couple of things well and that stretches to both ends of the floor. He's a big body in the paint on defense who is an adequate defensive rebounder; and he's a floor spacer on offense

something else: 10 million a year in 2020 is not the same as 10M/year in 2016. And a 2 year deal is not the same as a 4 year deal. These are not equivalent contracts

Meyers was a starter, until he wasn’t. He was benched back in February and never saw the court again and wasn’t in the rotation when the games mattered the most, the playoffs. Why would a team give that guy $10m per? Yeah, the heat have made mistakes, but they’re not THAT dumb. It’s essentially the Keith van horn contract.

Meyers started 2 games in the finals

They could give many players a contract for trades (and without player options) but decided to give it to Meyers.

Why did the Clippers give Morris 60 million when the similar brother signed for the minimum? Teams do stupid deals all the time.

Lol “started.” He was only out there because Bam was hurt, and even still he barely played in those two games.

And Marcus is better than Markieff.

You said he never saw the court again. He did. And the Heat resigned him to at least $10M guaranteed when you positive he may not even be in the NBA this season.

Take the L and move on. Your anger at Meyers has you posting dumb things that are easily refuted.

Weird how I evidently said that while also saying I would take him on a roster over Ed Davis. Almost like you don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about. How about you move on, random guy I’ve never heard of until yesterday?

True, teams had more money to spend in 2016 than this year and many teams had money to spend so more teams were competing for players. Miami was merely competing with themselves as very few teams have that kind of money to spend on a player of Leonards caliber.

Can you imagine this forum if Myers was still on the team and Olshey gave him another 10 mil contract for 2 years? This forum would go batshit. I've noticed a fair amount of double standards by members in this forum.

Has this been posted? Outside of shooting threes, Giles is better at every single other aspect. He's even more foul prone, astonishingly.

There stats pretty close to each other but one stat is not there is Giles played for the king's and Zach play for us. Zach had about the same stats then Giles on the boards last year. I like them both at there stage in there career.

It's not a two-year contract, it's a one-year contract with a 2nd year team option thatll get declined. Also, the only reason the gave him that much is to help them trade-wise as he'd amount to more outgoing salary making it easier to match salary in a trade. Also likely that theres a handshake agreement that they'd pay Meyers extra if he decided to waive his NTC no matter what.

They essentially overpaid him to increase they're trade flexibility. The initial contract we gave him hurt our flexibility. Big difference.

Good post, Meyers didn't get paid only because of the flexibility, but he did get overpaid for including that flexibility.

So, there's absolutely no way for us to keep him if he'll have a great season?

He’s gonna have to have a pretty amazing season to go from getting the minimum to something more than the MLE. Yeah he’s young, but the injury concerns aren’t going to just disappear, especially as the investment grows. I think he’s going to play a role for Portland this season, but I don’t think it’s going to be a consistent one. It’s going to be very matchup dependent imo. For example, the first two games are against the Jazz and Rockets. Both have traditional centers backing up theirs starters. In those matchups, it’s more likely that Kanter plays.

Also just like Zach if he wants a raise he not only has to play well when on the floor but has to stay healthy enough to be on the floor.

I definitely think there is, we were not the only team to offer him the min, he chose to come here because of the comradery he saw between the Blazer team in the bubble.

I think some dumb team will throw major money his way if he's efficient and healthy enough throughout the season.

So the MLE is the best we can offer? i'm too lazy to go through CBA nonsense...

If I had to bet on one player who isn’t on the team by the end of the season, it would be Zach.
