Hart to Start

WTF happened to this Josh Hart? The one that mattered on offense.
The one that scored 27 points, making 5 three-pointers and getting 5 assists in Milwaukee.

The one with the jab step in Memphis, the one who pushed the pace to get easy points.

The one that scored 44 points against the Wizards.

I want to see Josh Hart back in that role, and playing with like-minded players like Winslow.
Billups and Cronin seem to be setting us up for disappointment that doesn't need to happen.
Who doesn't want to see Hart at shooting guard, put Winslow back at small forward, Elleby replaced by Jerami Grant and see where that unit could take us?

He playing with Dame Simons Grant Nurk. That leaves him the 5th option in that lineup. That's why he either should start at the 2 or come off the bench to give area a spark.

Im thinking Josh Hart will perform at a very high level and a good percentage of it will be at the 2 position.
I hope so! I miss the guy who was scoring aggressively , especially his 3-point shots.

Winslow (to me) is a much better 5th option. He's built to be a 5th option, and to make Nurk a devastating weapon that will wear down opponents, like he did in Memphis last season (as one example, there were many such games until the plug was pulled on Nurk).
It makes me sick that Hart has given up his 3-point shooting completely.

It makes more sense to have Simons to come off the bench as a spark.

Dame/Hart/Winslow(or Little)/Grant/Nurk has much better balance both offensively & defensively than Dame/Ant/Hart/Grant/Nurk

I'm saying the drop from Josh Hart the shooting guard to Josh Hart the small forward in the current lineup is worse than the drop from Norman Powell the shooting guard to Norman Powell the small forward.
I am not saying Josh Hart is a worse small forward than Norman Powell. Neither guy should be playing small forward.
I'm saying, after watching Josh Hart explode as the shooting guard many of us had been hoping for, now having to watch him in a much diminished role as a small forward is much sadder than whatever was taken away from Norman Powell when he was forced to play small forward.
Whether that's true isn't as important as what Billup and Cronin have done to Josh Hart.
It's much sadder to see it done to Josh Hart than Norman Powell, I think most of us can agree on that.
There's really not much difference between SG and SF offensively

"Josh Hart is one of our 5 best players and of course he should start." Yes, that's great if he's starting at shooting guard.
If Simons, Lillard and McCollum were in the top 5, does that mean they should all be starting?

Edit: At any rate, the Josh Hart at small forward issue isn't addressing the bigger problem, which is Lillard and McSimons starting in the backcourt.
I would prefer that Winslow replace one of them, but if you prefer someone else, I'm all for that person if he's a good defender.
We need to make a trade. Hart is a better SF than anybody else on the team not named Grant.

Back in the day Kevin McHale would fit that bill....he was the second highest paid Celtic and came off the bench...HOFer ...Ginobli was another bench superstar

For many years the Celts had a rule that their 2nd best forward came off the bench. Havlicek, Silas and McHale all thrived in that role.

I’ll state the obvious if we start out crappy I think Dame and the Blazers have to consider all options. Would you trade dame for shot at unprotected lottery pick or would another team consider it?

It doesn't seem like anyone gives up an unprotected lottery pick anymore. When was the last time? Especially not this year.

Sharpe and Walker are the future forwards. Probably sooner than most are willing to admit.
I wouldn’t mind him playing as a forward right now just to be able to get as many minutes as he can. But I would much rather he transition to almost-exclusively a SG. With his size and length, he is going to be a matchup problem on most nights at SG. At SF, I’m not totally sure. I get that the SG/SF aren’t much different, I’m just saying I’d rather Sharpe to be the second smallest buy on the team as opposed to the third.

Dude? Please.
??? Ah yes sorry forgot to fit in around here. Seasons over. Can't come back from this 0-0... I mean 1-4 record. Or is that 0.5-4? Do the non-NBA opponent games count like the rest do? I don't know how yall run things around here.

See you next year?

I can be all for your optimism but this team needs time and they only got a week left before the season. I notice you don't have a post in the prediction thread? Why is that?
Mine is in there for all to see. I went an optimistic 41-41 making the playin.
I'm on record here saying this first 20 games are crucial. They need to figure it out and try to be around .500 to stay in this season. There will be no coming back from 5-15 or worse.
If you can't see Chauncey Billups looks lost out there so far then I simply don't know what to tell you?

Yes it's pre season but they just got blown out completely by 4 NBA teams.

Here is another point. I just watched the Lakers vs T-wolves. Both of those teams not only played their starters relatively similar minutes but they played well and competed. Both of those teams would walk all over the Blazers at this point from what i have seen.

In the first 20-25 games, the Blazers have a tough schedule. .500 would be just fine. Josh Hart starting at the 3 shows what he can do as a starter with the Blazers guys who ARE the starters. Simons is a starter. He's not coming off the bench. Dame, Grant, and Nurkic. Since I expect Hart traded by the February deadline, he has a good audition for the rest of the league as a starter. If it works, his value is maximized. If not so well, he's a quality 6th man ... which I already believe. Winslow is a 6th to 8th man with some complementary skills. I do like the idea of Winslow starting with better players and having Hart come in as the #2 or #3 option playing with fewer starters (where starting he's option 4 or 5).

Hart starting for now? Sure. Does he become the SF where it's a foregone conclusion, almost inarguable, that's he's the starter?

These are my feelings. Well said.

This dude @BonesJones can't even respond?
Want's to come back with condescending smack but can't even throw a prediction out there? Okay i guess i know enough about this guy.

Fair enough response. Not sure who brought you into it but point stands. Where is his prediction?
I would assume the answer is simple. He's trying to build a career around basketball knowledge. If he sits on the fence on predictions, he's not wrong.
