CSNNW.com reported earlier this week that Portland Trail Blazers restricted free agent, Nicolas Batum, has already signed Minnesota's offer sheet worth four-years, $46.5 million.

Minnesota's general manager, David Kahn, was asked about that signing during his teleconference and Kahn responded saying Batum can't sign the sheet until Sunday night.

CSNNW.com immediately got in touch with Kahn after the teleconference and he explained that Batum did sign the offer sheet on Thursday, but since Minnesota had no cap space at the time, the league ruled the offer sheet invalid and Batum must sign it again.

Minnesota's plan was to hold on to Batum signature while they were engaged in sign-and-trade talks with Portland. However, a team can't even hold on to a signature without cap space.
Hopefully, that sets the records straight.
Well done, I thought.

Did we figure out why they can submit the offer on Sunday? Do they not need Webster's salary to come off the books to make the offer? I thought the waiver period was 7 days. Khan should have just waived Miller/Webster pre-July 1.
I still think it is, and I don't think Webster's salary space is part of the SUnday offer. But that's what's being reported as the holdup for the Sunday signing.

Kahn's plan was to hold onto this offer-sheet during S&T talks, but was shutdown by the NBA.

Nicoals Batum signed the offer sheet Thurs, but league ruled it invalid since Minny had no space, according to Kahn |

haha!

Minny will have to wait 7-days until Batum can sign..... and THEN Portland gets another 3-days to match.

Minny has about 9.515-mill in cap space right now (not including roster chargers which would drop it to around 8.75-mill). They have a total salary of 48.5-mill for 11-players. The cap is at 58.04-mill.

Minny will get an additional 5+/- mill when Webster clears waivers in 7-days. Minny would need the Batum contract to start around 10.25-mill to reach the rumored $45-mill offer sheet (with a max 7.5% salary increase per year).

This is why I still don't believe Batum will sign the offer sheet on Sunday.

What if on Sunday the NBA rejects the offer sheet again because it takes 7 days, not 48 hours. Oh, won't that be hilarious.

So MN didn't submit the offer sheet to the league, but the league still ruled it invalid? How does that work? "Uh, we see in the press that you may or may not have signed Batum for $45 mil. If so, it's invalid."?

barfo

I'm going to be in combat training for the next 3 weeks starting tomorrow night...but if that happens...my goodness.

They're close enough that something small like trading cash + Lee or cash + Ellington to someone would get them to the 10.9 they need for the offer sheet, without Webster. I think Webster's going to be used for Roy.

The thought of Kahn sending Olshey a copy of the contract to show he's serious, and then the league saying it's invalid is just too funny.

Olshey should have sent David Khan an article on Paul Allen's net worth.

Not only that, his agent was behind this 100%.

Kahn is an idiot.

Ndiaye is an idiot.

It's like that scene in Glengarry Glen Ross where Jack Lemmon's character finally made the sale and close with a couple, but it turned out the couple was insane and had no money.

Sometimes I wish you I knew more about twitter. Like how to post videos.

One more thing, did Nic just lose 1.5 mil in this kahn fiasco? The original invalid offer was reported at 4 yrs 46.5 mil, now we are hearing 4 yrs 45 mil, if I was Nic I'd be pissed, less money and the crapstorm this creates. Can anyone add to this possibility?

Brian said 7 days, so he is dead to me

I realize this is stubborn and thick-headed, but I STILL don't think they can use Webster's cap space until next Friday. I don't think it'll matter b/c I think they can get where they need through Miller and lesser deals (NOH really hooked them up with the timing) but I still think it's 7 days to clear.

Since Nic apparently won't sign "to at least Sunday" how do you guys feel about the idea of Olshey coming out PUBLICLY and sayiny we have a standing offer of 5 yrs 50 mil with yr 5 being Nic's option (added bonus for Nic). Circumvent his bullshit agent and let Nic know we want him - that is of course assuming we do and will match. Thoughts?

It's worth a shot. Either way, he's staying in Portland.

The roadblock is his agent. He's not going to budge. I wonder how he's going to take it when he's matched?

I want Olshey to match at 5:01 PM Sunday.

even better, send in our match at 4:59. So then when he sends it in at 5, it just bounces back to him. And then fax him a middle finger.

we've now forced Kahn to do his waiver stuff so have cost him some possible assets, let's now try to bury him with a Nic offer and give him some payback for being such a jerk

I gotta believe PA would not mind doing this to Kahn at all

My god. This is so entertaining, I'm speechless. This actually makes up for last season. Life is good and getting better.

How many times can Kahn be Olshlapped before he throws in the towel?

I hope we get a few more days of this comedy, at least.

I agree, I am laughing all the time, just imagine if the waiver process is another 7 days for them to cleat the space? then we can stretch it another 3
