OKC wont let Harden go into FA, same with illblockya, they can get nuts value for trading them before.

Probably...accumulating assets including having cap space to take back a contract...

He did. But Lillard costs less. And he'll be better. From Day one? No, but this kid has it. I honestly believe he's a B-Roy, but of PG's. I haven't been this excited about a Blazers rook in years.

Well we know what Dragic is capable of....Lillard has a long way to go to prove he is the B-Roy of PG...an all star caliber player, of which he needs to be, let alone better than Dragic is now...

It will be interesting to see the next few years how he measures up to guys like Barnes & Rivers....

Nice straw man argument. And by the way, we are talking about this year.....The odds of the Blazers attaining the service of Harden or Smith are about as good as Minny attaining the services of Nic. The question is what will the cost be and would it be worth the price. Cap space is always imaginary for a small market team until you find a player that believes in the operation and financial benefits it provides. If, and it's a big IF, next year paints that kind of picture for a potential free agent, I would hope that player would be of a larger presence than Harden or Smith.

Does Batum believe in this organization? He certainly expressed desire to leave it...and I don't think it is a strawman arguement....you asked for attainable options and I listed 2...and I am sure there would be others as well...Both Harden and Smith could be obtainable...not a given, but attainable....I think either Harden or Smith would be a significant upgrade over what Batum provides right now...and while having a solution RIGHT NOW this season, I am sure is preferable, POR is rebuilding and they certainly will have to acquire certain pieces thoughout the next few years....

Whether Batum believes in the Blazers, or not, is a moot point. Nic is a RFA, no? We hold the trump card of a matching offer. Once again, It would be beating the odds by a large margin to acquire Harden or Smith next year and the cost for either, should that be the case, would be more than Nic at 11mm per year. Besides, Smith does his best work at the 4 and I really don't think he would be an upgrade over Nic at the 3.

This is the perfect time to fuck over Kahn & Co.

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine
O.J Mayo and Courtney Lee are two names at the top of Suns' list of guards to pair with Goran Dragic now that they've lost out on Gordon

Lee is their plan B -- Should Neil milk the three day deadline?

I say we sign lee using cap space, match batum, and tell Kahn we will trade them Lee on Jan 15 for Williams and 2 firsts

According to Bucher, the Blazers have rejected many different packages that included as many as three first-rounders and Derrick Williams.

Paul's heels are dug in.

LOL, if this is the case, then that is fucking stupid on our part

Not really.

The picks are from two teams who'll be in the running for the playoffs. MN will be MUCH better with Batum. Memphis is still a playoff team. In short, these "assets" aren't that attractive.

Williams is the epitome of a tweener right now. The potential is there but how likely is he going to reach it if he doesn't dramatically change his game?

He's better than nothing but that would make our wing depth go from very weak to embarrassing.

Smart on the part of Neil. If it were a 5+ year contract I'd look for a S&T, at 4 years, this is doable.

god I hope thats not true. I like Batum, but not more than I love 3 1st rounders AND the 2nd pick in last years pick.

I think it was a variation -- three picks + a scrub (Korver/Budinger) or Williams.

If we have truly turned down Williams and three first rounders, that would be flat out stupid. But at this point, who knows what's true.

Theory from the @canishoopus board: Kahn leaked (made up) the three first round picks story to make PDX look bad when it doesn't happen.

I suspected as much. If that's true, it just shows how much of a tool Khan is.

If I was Olshey, I would call Khan and tell him "three first rounders and Williams for Batum.... done deal?" and record the whole thing.

Jeez, think maybe Bucher is being spoonfed T'wolves spin? That reads like Kahn wrote it. Anyone who saw the fall Maftell had against the Lakers couldn't have been surprised by his back.

We've been flooded with this -- Bucher and the Jaynes/Haynes duo.

The voice of reason giving both sides of the story? Quick and Canzano!

When Batum/LMA contracts end Love will be an UFA.

Thinking what I'm thinking?
