Haynes full of shit (no Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million) (confirmed)

All of you have trolled, so why are you any different?

If he doesn't match. he can sell it by saying the offers for picks weren't there and he thinks it will hinder Minnesota, then make a lopsided deal with the cap room we would have

It's not smart or dumb. It's not crippling, so why not unless there is something out there better

I'm just genuinely interested on your guys point of views on the subject after this has all played out. I'm obviously a Timberwolves fan, I guess all I have really heard is from the media in Portland or you guys arguing with other people from Minnesota on here for the most part, I guess I just wanted to get your guys honest opinions on it.

Also, I'm not trolling, I am just curious, do you guys think matching him is the smart move moving forward for your team? I think everyone agrees it is overpaying quite a bit. Do you think in the long run this puts Portland in a good spot to make it deep in the playoffs?
At this point I can't really commit to whether it is the right move or not. I have been hoping for a S&T, but given that we whiffed on FA's, I don't know that matching Batum's highly paid contract is all that bad of a deal. He was probably a top 5 FA this year. The Blazers should have tried harder to lock him up last Fall knowing that someone would throw a fat contract his way. They probably could have gotten a better deal last offseason. I think they will match, otherwhise the Blazers have really misplayed their hand.

Afflalo - $8.5M
Granger - $13M
Deng - $13M
Hedo - $11M
Galinari - $10M
Marvin Williams - $8M
Gay - $14M
Iggy - $14M

Batum is about in the range he should be in. At most $2M per overpaid. Realistically, $10M per is probably the fairest offer for both sides.

Why do you think Portland was so hesitant to get a deal done let season with him, where they allegedly offered him what like a $5-6 million contract?

and frankly what other choices are there? Minny will be hurting for an SF and the SF draft next yr is not good

So basically what it comes down to is

Is Olshey willing to not match a guy that he thinks is a big piece to the Blazers rebuild over $1-2M? Kind of doubt it.

My speculation is that they were hoping to have a bunch of cap room to try to sign Batum and a new FA. They thought Batum would either sign the smaller contract or let them use the caphold to try to improve the team and sign Batum after that with Bird rights.

They didn't know what the market would bear with Batum, since the new CBA would mess with everyone's math, potentially. Perhaps they thought the market would be 7-8 mil on Batum and they'd get a deal.

Minnesota definitely will be getting a fruit basket from Nic's agent. They set the bar so high they didn't even bother with anyone else, because they knew that was as high as they'd go.

Now, it's just a matter of taking our medicine to keep Batum, but really, we're still 6-7 million under the cap as is, so it's not a big hit. Allen loves lanky SF wing guys and probably will match at any price.

To preserve our cap space this offseason, to make a run at aguy like Hibbert, like we tried to.

Different GM

Knowing they could match anyway

Being able to make a run at a high end FA this summer

That's an excellent point.

I would not be surprised if the league invalidates the contract again because of the bonuses.

No doubt we are matching. As said before, no big FA is coming here amd we have to spend it somehow.

Williams, maybe Budinger, but I doubt the latter. I really don't think it'll be either, I don't think they are done this offseason. In Adelman's system, the 2-3 are pretty interchangeable, I wouldn't be surprised if it was Roy-Lee or maybe Williams, kind of have to wait and see how it all plays out.

Roy will lack any and all physicality very soon into the season, so I don't think SF is in his range. He's a spot up shooter now, imho. I bet Adelman takes a flyer on Williams, who sounds a bit like Jerome Kersey.

Until this is cleared up, Nic can't/wont suit up for France, right?

This was taken just two days ago:

Roy may be the starter by title only but not play huge minutes. You would think it would be easier on his knees to start right after warming up as opposed to warming the bench after warming up.

I was thinking more Lee at the 3, but I'm not really high on a 6'5" SF. Like I said though, I don't think Kahn and Adelman are done after this anyways, something else is going to happen, be it Lee, a backup big, Roy, and Shved, or maybe something else even.

Very good point. First 6 minutes, then first 6 minutes of the 3rd... spot minutes for clutch play in the 4th. 12-16 minutes a game.

If the Blazers let Batum walk, they would have $14M left in cap space to sign other free agents or make uneven trades ... worth it?

So the Blazers will only have what 3 million or less left after signing batum, plus if they sign a vet pg first they won't have any cap less.

Is LMA/Batum a good enough combo to win in this league?

Better add Lillard to that
